Super R-Type Game by Irem Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: None Released: 1991 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I played the original R-Type on the ancient Sega Master System. I really thought that it was great and it had some awesome graphcics. I found this game years later at Target for about 10 bucks, so I bought it. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Super R-Type is a shooter in the typical space shooter vein. you fly from left to right blasting anything that moves. There's the typical end-level boss and power-ups just like about every other shooter. This game's not very original, but man is it fun!!! If you like shooters then you must get Super R-Type. Liked: Classic shooter goodness. Hated: Classic shooter formula. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of Super R-Type are pretty good. They're great for a first-gen SNES game. The player-controlled ship is small but well-drawn. The enemies look cool, but the end-level bosses look great. Liked: Great looking bosses. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Super R-Type features some sweet music. The sound fx are pretty much what you'd expect from a shooter, but they're nicely done. Liked: Great sound fx. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls of Super R-Type are perfect. There's really only 2 buttons to use, other than the D-pad. One fire button is rapid fire, then there's another which charges up your lasers for a super-shot. The game design is good, but it gets old having to start a level over each time you die. Liked: Great controls. Hated: Having to restart a level when you die. **************************************************************************** Improve: Fix the annoying having to restart the level thing!!! RIYL: R-Type, Axelay, The Raiden Project (PS) **************************************************************************** Final Words: This is a great shooter, period. If you like shooters, then you really owe it to yourself to get this game. If you hate shooter, this game won't change your mind. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 18 out of 25 Final Score: 72% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None Template courtesy of Philip Wesley.
