Mike Tyson's Punch Out Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Passwords Released: 1987 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This was the first and probably last Mike Tyson licensed game. Of course, this was years before his ear-biting incident. This was one of the first NES games that I got and it was amazing. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Mike Tyson's Punch Out is an "arcadey" boxing game like Super Punch Out and the arcade Punch Out. In this game the point is to defeat all of the other boxers to get a shot at Mike Tyson for the World Championship title. You have fight such strange characters as Don Flamenco, who is a tango dancer, and King Hippo, who is a strange hybrid of a human and a hippo. It's classic Nintendo goodness at it's finest. The boxing is somewhat realistic, but each boxer has a pattern which needs to be learned to defeat him. Liked: Fantastic boxing action. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of MTPO are excellent. They are above average for an NES game. The boxers are large and well-detailed. The ring and background are fairly realistic looking. Liked: Great graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: MTPO has some classic music. Each of these tunes are videogame classics. The sound fx are good, as well. There's even a small amount of speech in there. Liked: Classic music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: MTPO has perfect controls. The controls are simple and are extrememly responsive. The game design is great. Liked: Perfect controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Nothing, this game is great. RIYL: Super Punch Out(SNES), and posssibly Midway's Ready 2 Rumble(N64, Dreamcast) **************************************************************************** Final Words: Mike Tyson's Punch Out is an absolute classic videogame. Every true videogamer should own this game. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 24 out of 25 Final Score: 96 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
