Virtua Cop Game by Sega Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Save: Saturn Memory Released: 1995 Works with: Stunner Light Gun **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: From Hogan's Alley to Lethal Enforcers, there have been a lot of light gun games to hit the market. Virtua Cop, by Sega, brought a polygonal aspect to the genre. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: I really love this game! There's nothing like it on any other console. As a cop in Virtua City, you must shoot the terrorists that are coming out of the woodwork. There are three "worlds" that consist of three phases each. There is a docking area, a construction site, and a Gang HQ. Unlike the sprite-based shooters of the NES and SNES days, Virtua Cop's polygonal graphics allow for zooming in and out shots, people in the foreground and background, real time. This makes for a exciting, thrill provoking experience unrivaled by any other game. There are circular targets around your enemies that have arrows on them. When those arrows touch, plan to get hit by the attackee. There are bosses at the end of each world. Also there are different guns you can get temporarily during the course of the game. One thing that sucks about the guns though is reloading your gun. You have to shoot off the screen. Never have liked this, never will. They should put a reload button trigger, or something. Liked: Fun experience. Ranking mode proves how good you are well. Hated: Reloading, no auto reload. More levels! **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The enemies look very realistic. AM2 has put in some great effects and you can tell a lot of thinking went into them. John Woo couldn't of made a game like this look this good. Unlike those FMV shooters, the enemies react to your shots depending on where you shoot them. It's just incredible how good the animation on these enemies is. But some of the stage objects look just a tad flat. Liked: Great animation and realism. Hated: Some scenery is flat, some pixelation. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music... huh. It's not really cop music, or rock, it's just arcade music. A lot of songs will be recognized from the arcade game. It does build a lot of excitement. As for sound FX, the screams and gunshots are believeable. Liked: Good Music and FX. Hated: More voice? **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Don't play this game without adjusting the gun sensitivity and calibration to something you feel comfortable with. It's important that you have a good shot. Navigating stuff like the options menu is really annoying, because you have to shoot to move back and forth, and you can only go forwards, scrolling through your options with the start button. Plus, you can use your controller. Liked: Great gun feel with the correct options. Hated: Should control the cursor with your pointer. **************************************************************************** Improve: Auto reload, More levels, depth, and voice. RIYL: Lethal Enforcers, Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt. **************************************************************************** Final Words: What fun! How could they make it better? Oh, there's a sequel? Oh... **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 20 Final Score: %80 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Invincibility At the title screen hold C and at the Sega logo press Up, Down, Left, Right.
