ESPN Extreme Games Game by Sony Interactive Studios Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Memory Card Released: 1995 Works with: Memory Card **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I bought this game way back when there were only about 7 games available for the Playstation. Man, that seems hard to believe, only 7 Playstation games. Anyways, it looked cool and there wasn't too much else for my new PS, so I bought it. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: X-Games is pretty much a rip-off of Road Rash. You race to be the first across the finish line. You can punch and kick your opponents out of the way. You can choose if you want to be a roller-blader, skateboarder, street-luger, or mountain biker. They all play the same, though. The gameplay is unforgiving in that if you mess up, you're probably going to lose. Liked: Beating people up. Hated: Unforgiving gameplay. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: X-Games looks pretty good for a first-gen Playstation game. The 3-D perspective works well and is believable. The graphics are sprites instead of polygons, which gives this game a dated look. Liked: Good 3-D persepective. Hated: 2-D sprites. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: X-Games has a rocking soundtrack that fits this game like a glove. The sound fx are underwhelming, though. Liked: Great music. Hated: Poor sound fx. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: X-Games has serious flaws in these areas. The controls are decent, but they respond too slowly. The game design is lacking because there's no reason to continue playing. There are some looong load times, as well. Liked: Nothing. Hated: Poor controls. **************************************************************************** Improve: Better controls. RIYL: Road Rash, F-Zero X **************************************************************************** Final Words: X-Games is an okay game if you like crappy racing games. If you want a good game, you'd be advised to look elsewhere. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: ** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: * Personal Opinion: ** Total: 10 out of 25 Final Score: 40 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
