THE OCEAN MEETS THE SKY

You took to the sky on that fateful flight.....
Running late... the day was turning to night.
You'd be there in an hour... it was such a short run.
Flying into the evening would probably be great fun!

I don't know what happened, what went so terribly wrong.
But in my heart I know... the three of you were strong.
So close you were... not much further to go...
You were almost home.... How could you possibly know?

That the ocean then.....would rise up and grab the sky
And total blackness is all that would meet your eye.
Two of your passions; the sky and the sea
Would fight that night..... before they'd set you free.

When you left us behind, the world's light did dim
The nation stood still, and our hearts were grim.
But I can feel you smiling... as we say goodbye.
From the depths of your ocean; radiating your sky.
