The monks from the Kykkos Monastery used to bring an icon (this is a copy) to this site and offer prayers for rain.

The first stop in the mountains was at the tomb of Archbishop Makarios who, in many respects, was largely responsible for the successful campaign to free Cyprus from the colonial grip of England.  (It was during this struggle that Margaret was here on active service)

Pilgrims to the site tied prayers to the branches of trees. Some were then covered in plastic, making the whole thing an untidy mess.
