SULAWESI OVERLAND 15 DAYS/ 14 NIGHTS

Day 01: Arrival Transfer

Meet your guide at the airport.  Short orientation around Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi province.

 

Day 02: Bunaken Island for snorkeling (7 hrs)

Boat ride (45 minutes -private boat) to Bunaken Island for Sightseeing/ Snorkeling trip on the famous Bunaken Island.
Enjoy the spectacular drop offs with thousands of fish and beautiful corals in the crystal clear water.  

Take your time also to explore the beach. Lunch on the island.

Note: Diving (for introductory - beginner) can be arranged upon request.  

 

Day 03: Minahasa Countryside Tour (Fullday Tour)

Tour visits: Tinoor Highlands, Tomohon ( a pretty town sits in the saddle of two active volcanoes), local market, Linow Changing Color lake, Tondano Lake, "Waruga", the 9th century tombs used by the Pre-Christian Minahasan, Pre-fabricated traditional house at Woloan, etc. ( this trip can be combined with a soft trekking to Mt. Mahawu, one of the volcanoes in the region).

 

Day 04: Tangkoko Nature Tour (fullday).

Drive 2 hours to the northeast of Manado passing picturesque villages of Minahasa and lush coconut plantations.  3 hours guided trekking to the reserve accompanied by local ranger to observe Macaque nigra, Sulawesi's Black Monkey, Hornbill birds, and Cuscus.

Highlight of the trip: Sulawesi Tarsier (Tarsius Spectrum), the smallest nocturnal primate on earth.  It is 100 grams in weight,  head and body length of just 10 cm (4 in), a tail twice as long, and enormous eyes.  Is it the famous Gremlin?   

 

Day 05: Manado - Gorontalo (8 hours)

Along and scenic drive through the coastal roads.

Arrive in Gorontalom, we'll take you for a short orientation around in town.  Overnight at hotel.  (best available - non star).

 

Day 06: Gorontalo Tour (6 - 7 hrs)

Tour visit: Lombongo hot spring (short trekking), Otanaha fort, Gorontalo harbour, the making of local embroidery called 'krawang', Limboto lake (largest flooded lake in the province), etc.  

Overnight at hotel. 

 

Day 07: Gorontalo - Moutong (6 hrs drive)

Drive along the scenic coastal roads. 

Overnight at hotel (very simple - best available).

 

Day 08: Moutong - Tentena (8 hours drive)

Drive along the 'neck' of Sulawesi through scenic coastal roads. 

A stop also made at the equator line monument.

Overnight at Tentena, by Poso lake.

 

Day 09: Tentena - Pendolo (3 hours drive)

A short visit to waterfall nearby for a short trek.

Proceed to car then drive to Pendolo.  (or, if you prefer to go by boat, we can arrange it for you).

Overnight at Mulia hotel (very simple).

Take your time to swim or just enjoy the white sandy beach of the lake. (Poso lake is claimed to be the second clearest lake in the world).  

 

Day 10: Pendolo - Torajaland (7 hours drive)

Drive through the mountain and lush tropical forests, waterfalls, coastal roads, passing lots of beautiful views along the way.

Overnight at hotel in Torajaland.


Day 11 : FULL DAY TORAJA TOUR 
Highlight of the tour: 

- The stone grave at LEMO with tau-tau installed on a high cliff balcony overlooking the green valley. 

- The royal family tombs at SUAYA. 

- KAMBIRA, a giant-tree made as burial site for a new born-baby who died before teething.

- SANGGALA, the breeding site of fruit-bats (seasonal). 

- The traditional carving village at KETE KESU. 

- Natural burial cave at LONDA. 

- The typical village at NANGGALA with 16 rice-barns standing in a raw as a sign of their wealthy status in Toraja community. 

- MARANTE visit the ancient house-grave.   Late afternoon back to hotel for overnight.

 

Day 12: FULL DAY TORAJA TOUR 
Tour Highlight:

- A short morning trek (2 hours) from Batutumonga to PANA. Walk through some typical villages to enjoy the beautiful rice-field terraces along this way. 

- Tikala village, from where you will end your trekking.  Transfer to Rantepao for a short orientation before proceed to hotel.

Note : traditional funeral ceremony is a seasonal event and therefore there is no guarantee to see it during the tour program. 

 

Day 13: Toraja - Sengkang

Drive to Sengkang . On the way, there will be few stops for interesting local people activities, typical houses , etc.

Arrive in Sengkang check-in at hotel (very simple-best available).

 

Day 14 : SENGKANG LAKE TEMPE TOUR 
Boat trip (traditional outrigger) to TEMPE lake  to see way of life of the locals who live on the floating houses. 

See also the traditional silk weaving (Silk Sarong - the traditional Buginese skirt) at Sengkang.  Rest of the day is free.

 

Day 15: Sengkang - Makasar

Drive to Ujungpandang for your next destination.
