The original vision, mission, goal, and objectives of BCCM as spelled out by its founder, Dr. Damaceno Ago, will remain to be essentially the same though with some refocusing, reorientation, and reinforcement.
The mission and goal of BCCM will now be focused on and reoriented towards the solution of the health problems and health development of the Bicol Region, rather than mere production of physicians for the Region.
To achieve this goal, the following strategies will be utilized.
1. Training of both the faculty and the students on how to solve the health problems and to promote health development of the Bicol Region.
2. Faculty and students as well as the administration working actively together to solve the health problems and to promote health development of the Bicol Region.
3. Effective and efficient training programs for both the faculty and the students.
3.1 A faculty training program to produce competent medical educators as well as role models for the students.
3.2 A reformed medical curriculum
3.2.1 To produce effective, efficient, and humane physicians who are community health problem solvers, educators, learners, researchers, and administrators.
3.2.2 With the following features:
- relevant to the health needs of the Bicol Region
- community-based teaching-learning
- problem-based teaching-learning
- competency-based teaching-learning
- self-directed learning
- more active learning activities and less lecture
- integrated
- modular
- more effective assessment methods
The evaluation indicators will be the following:
1. Solution of the health problems and health development of the Bicol Region
2. Competent medical educators (faculty)
3. Competent medical graduates who are effective, efficient and humane
4. Medical graduates who are Philippine Board of Medicine passers
The impact envisioned will be a 21st Century Bicol Christian College of Medicine with improved reputation both at the local and international level; with increased enrolment of medical students; and recognized as a training center for medical educators.
