1. Stephen Caudle was born 1680 in Scotland. He married Mary ???? or Fields.
Notes: Stephen appears to have lived both in New Brunswick and Halifax Counties, Virginia. He appears to have been transported from Scotland To Virginia in 1692 by a Captain Hawthorne. Three other Caudles were also aboard.

2. *Benjamin Caudle (Stephen) was born in 1730. He married Elizabeth Unknown.
Notes: Benjamin and his wife, Elizabeth, had a number of children, but only two have been proven, Absalom and Stephen. Benjamin joined the Revolutionary Army in Chatham Co, NC. Died before 1776 while in the army. His widow was living in Anson County, NC in 1783 near her oldest son, Absalom.

Stephen, died in Butler Co., Al in 1843.
3. *Absalom Caudle (Benjamin, Stephen) was born October 7, 1757 in Halifax County, Virginia and died March 7, 1846 in Anson County, NC. He married (1) Unknown. He married(2) Elizabeth Maness, March 22, 1787, daughter of Thomas Maness and Frances Unknown.
Notes: Absalom joined the
Revolutionary army in November 1775 at Cross Creek, now
Fayetteville, NC. He was discharged in December 1775. He became a
subsititue for John Elwell of Bladen County, NC and was
discharged in July 1780. He then enlisted and served the
remainder of the war. His Pension received at age 75 is
erroneously filed as Absalom Candell. Absalom's "Applicaion
for Pension" can be found here.

Notes for Jesse:
Jesse's date of death must be off some. He gave land for Deep
Springs Baptist Church which was called Caudle's Grove at first.
He was also a charter member of the church. The date I have that
the church was organized is 1862. An Aunt of mine, born in 1890
and lived to be 97 1/2 says that he was called Captain Caudle
because he was a Captain in the Civil War. She also states he
gave land for the church.

Notes for Elizabeth: Elizabeth,
wife of Absalom, is reported mentally deranged some time around
1815. She continued to live with and be cared for by Absalom.
However, he did take in another woman, name unknow, by whom he
has three daughters. They were probably not married even though
the children bore his name and there was a 2nd family Bible.
Elizabeth outlived Absalom and received his pension. There are no
facts on the 2nd woman.

My father was an ordained Baptist Minister in the State of North
Carolina for just over 50 years. He served churches in
Mecklenburg County, Caldwell County, Moore County as well as some
others. He was a member and ordained as a minister by Deep
Springs Baptist Church in Anson County, North Carolina.
