ANTEBELLUM PERIOD LETTER

Homework assignment due Tuesday March 17, 1998:

     Write a letter to a friend commenting about having read about 
or witnessed: the Dred Scott Case, "Bleeding Kansas", or Uncle Tom's
Cabin. Be sure to include the following below. Remember this is a 
letter to a friend, be creative in how you include the information. 
Remember to date and sip the letter. Have fun!

First Paragraph-
 1)State where you live- are you a Northerner, Southerner, or
 Westerner?
 Do you have a family? What is your occupation?
 2) Why are you writing to your friend?

Second Paragraph-
 1) Describe the event briefly.
 2) What feelings do you have about what happened? (Are you angry,
 happy, fearful? Why?) Do you support what happened?
 3) Have your feelings changed or become stronger after this event, 
 explain why?

Third Paragraph-
 1) Surn up how you feel about the event. Are you going to take
 any different actions because of the event? Will things be the sai-ne 
 for you and your family?
