Favorite Games - Breath of Fire II

Breath of Fire II isn't really one of my favorite games, but it just happens to be the one that I have been playing most
recently, so I decided to try and make a summary page on this particular game and see how it goes - and then I may make similar summary pages for games that are really some of
my favorites - like Final Fantasy VII. So, basically this is a test page.
Ok, here are the basics - Breath of Fire II is an RPG game that was made by Capcom for the Super Nintendo system. Personally, I like RPGs, and I didn't find out about this one until a couple of months ago,
around April 2001, but this game is relatively old. In this game, you can get a total of nine different characters, and your battle party can be made up of four characters at a time. (Quite standard, really,
for an RPG.)
At right, you can find a brief overview / summary of the characters in the game that join your party. *The character information here was compiled from a couple different walkthroughs
of Breath of Fire II: specifically, David Martin's (FireFalcon12) and Ben Siron's walkthroughs. Right now, I think I am only missing Spar, who I have not yet had join my party, so I am unable to take a screenshot of him,
as I have with all the other characters seen at right - so I will just wait to include his summary / statistics until I reach the point that Spar joins the party.
What else, what else... As with all RPG games, you have a different battle screen than the map screen - and here it is! There's not too much to say about this, really. The characters are
always located in the lower right, and the enemies are always in the upper left. Very simple. Also, as far as playing in battle mode - it's sort of weird, but I guess this is common with the older RPGS - you set up all the characters' moves at once for the following turn,
and then it goes straight through the turn, during which you can't do anything but watch. This is quite different to me, since the RPG I was most familiar with on SNES has been Chrono Trigger, which has a nicer timed aspect to attacking.
In this game, speed is a part of the characters' statistics, but a faster speed simply means that that particular character performs their move for that turn before characters who have a lower speed.
Here I have included a picture of Bleu performing her Hail spell. This is just to show a character using a magic attack in battle, and because Bleu's currently my favorite character [although she is sort of "snaky"; yes, that's what I said ^_^]
as she is an incredible magician. Nina was my favorite character before Bleu was added to the party, as she is also a great magic user. However, Bleu is an even better sorceress than Nina, and she has a better attack and defense rating.

As I have not yet finished the game, I think that I should hold off on filling in this section. After I finish the game, (if that ever happens ^_^), then I will come back and give a more thorough review and comment
section here. So far, I will just say that I like the game, although there are a couple of things that bug me - for example, if you try to heal a character and then that character dies in the next round before the first character
can heal him/her, the spell for healing does not rotate on to the next character in sequence, but instead is still performed on the fallen character, and to no effect.

· Name: Ryu [or whatever name you choose]
· Weapon: Sword
· Occupation: Ranger
· Shaman Combos: None
· Battle Ability: Guts - Restores some of Ryu's HP; works better if you use it less often.
· Field Ability: Fish
· Comments: The main character, who is the second best character in the game in my opinion.

· Name: Bleu
· Weapon: Ring
· Occupation: Magician
· Shaman Combos: None
· Battle Ability: Shed - Restores all Bleu's HP.
· Field Ability: Hunt - however, she turns everything into charcoal.
· Comments: The "hidden character" in Breath of Fire II, and currently my favorite character in the game. (Which may be due to the fact
that I am just at the point where I have found this character in the game.)

· Name: Bow
· Weapon: Bow
· Occupation: Ranger / Thief
· Shaman Combos: Devil + Wind
· Battle Ability: Shot - Either kills the enemy or takes off 1 HP.
· Field Ability: Hunt
· Comments: Bow has a reasonable amount of AP, and is one of the healers of the group.

· Name: Jean
· Weapon: Dagger
· Occupation: Prince
· Shaman Combos: Earth + Water
· Battle Ability: Jab - I like FireFalcon's description from his Breath of Fire II walkthrough best:
"Jean hits all enemies for a hilarious amount of non-damage." This description is so true - it's not even funny - well, I can't say that - because it really is quite humorous.
It's so sad that it's funny.
· Field Ability: Hop
· Comments: Jean is [perhaps arguably] the worst character in the game. He has high luck, though, for whatever good that does him.

· Name: Katt
· Weapon: Staff
· Occupation: Gladiator
· Shaman Combos: Devil + Fire / Water
· Battle Ability: Dare - She dares enemies to hit her. [I personally don't find this particularly useful.]
· Field Ability: Hunt
· Comments: Katt has relatively low HP, and extremely low AP - which I find very annoying myself; because Katt has some great magic spells, but not enough
AP to use them, until you get to Level 40 or so.

· Name: Nina
· Weapon: Ring
· Occupation: Student at the Magic School
· Shaman Combos: Devil + Fire / Water
· Battle Ability: Will - Recovers some AP.
· Field Ability: Call
· Comments: Nina's a good sorceress, but she has low HP, offense, and defense.

· Name: Rand
· Weapon: Knuckles
· Occupation: Coliseum Worker / Former Farmer
· Shaman Combos: Earth + Fire / Water
· Battle Ability: Wake - Hits a downed party member in an attempt to revive him/her to 1 HP.
· Field Ability: Roll
· Comments: Another healer in the group, Rand has high HP, defense, and strength.

· Name: Sten
· Weapon: Dagger
· Occupation: Magician / Former General
· Shaman Combos: Wind + Fire
· Battle Ability: R.I.P. - Sten plays dead, so the enemy will think he's dead - but he can still get hit, and if he does - it causes more damage than normal.
· Field Ability: Extend
· Comments: Sten is an overall average character.
