2002 Olympic Torch Relay

December 10, 2001, Houston TX

The train arrived in Houston around noon, December 10, 2001, at Amtrak station.  The torch was carried through Houston streets approximately 32 miles by 160 individuals including Tara Lapinski, Mary Lou Retton, Laura Wilkinson and Steven Lopez.  They started at 1:00 pm and were scheduled to complete the journey downtown at the George R Brown Convention Center in the evening.

With a special paint job on the Union Pacific SD70M, and decals on the 19 UP passenger cars, the train was quite a sight.

The train's next stop was San Antonio and Austin 12-11, Dallas and Ft Worth 12-12, then on to Arkansas.
