Dresden has a very nice surrounding with lots of forest, beautiful castles and lakes. Let's have a look at some of them.




The Castle of Meissen

Meissen is the oldest castle in Saxony. It was built in 929 as one of the most significant Late Gothic palatial buildings in Germany. The first European factory for the world famous Meissner procelain is situated there.


















The Castle of Pillnitz

Pillnitz was the seat of Saxon electoral princes. Arround the castle is a beautiful garden containing exotic plants and trees, including Europe's oldest camelia (227 years old).










The castle of Stolpen

It is a former episcopal castle which was first mentioned in 1121 as a Romanique Architecture. A mistress of August "the Strong", Countess Cosel, was kept in prison there from 1716 till 1765.


The Castle of Moritzburg

Moritzburg was a hunting palace of August 'the Strong". It is an examplary integration of a proud Baroque palace with the surrounding lakeland.


















The Saxon Swittzerland

The region of the Saxon Switzerland covers a total of 268 square kilometers and was classified as a natural reserve in 1956. You are able to enjoy beautiful cliffs of sandstone, forest and from the top of the cliffs you have a wonderful view of the Elbe valley.
