The College Process at The Hill

The role of the college adviser is to teach and assist each student with developing the appropriate life-skills necessary to make major decisions through the college application process. In consultation with his individual adviser, each young man develops a compatible list of colleges to research, attends various college meetings and workshops, arranges interviews, and obtains and completes a reasonable number of applications. A student enhances his candidacy for college through the selection of appropriate classes, grade performance, achievement on standardized tests, his extracurricular profile, his application essay, and other personal qualities.

In recognizing the complexities of the college admission process, The Hill School has responded appropriately in providing services for our students. The College Office today is effectively comprised of three full-time advisers with a support staff, all of whom are dedicated to assisting Hill School students identify those colleges which are most appropriate for them. The College Advisers rely on the support of the School to provide them with the resources to gather information about colleges and their admission practices which is then disseminated to our students.

The Hill School has been generous in providing the College Office with the support necessary to operate our programs which include: hosting over 100 college representatives each fall, conducting parent programs, sponsoring workshops for faculty and students, and utilizing today's technology to assist the students in their college searches. Because of this support we are able to make productive and effective use of our regularly scheduled individual meeting with students.
