FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KELSI DUNN-MCKELLAR WINS LOCAL COMPETITION IN INTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER CONTEST Kelsi Dunn McKellar, a sixth grader at Shepherd Middle School has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a competition sponsored by the Shepherd Lions Club. Kelsi's poster is among 325,000 entries submitted worldwide in the fourteenth annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Shepherd Lions Club President Dave Sprague said that he was impressed with the fact that 37 students at Shepherd Middle School would take the time and effort to enter the contest. It appears obvious that these young people have strong feelings about the need for world peace. According to contest chairman, Chuck Jaquith, Matt Yager entered the poster that received second place in the contest, and the entry from Ashley Moore was selected as the third place winner. All three winners received checks from the Shepherd Lions Club, but only Kelsi's poster was forwarded to the state level contest in Onekama, Michigan where her poster will be in competition with winners from communities all over the state. The next two steps will be national and international competitions. Lions Clubs throughout the world have sponsored the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. The theme for the contest this year is "Lighting the Path to World Peace." The local winners were presented with their checks by the contest chairman Chuck Jaquith. The Shepherd Lions thank art teacher Joyce Bleeker for her assistance in getting students to enter the contest.
