KAWASHIMA Eigo / Scene of 38
Triple best album of a Japanese singer who has died a couple of weeks ago by cancer disease.
Badically I hate so called folk music both domestically and overseas. However Mr. Kawashima is one of very few exception for me. I myself cannot explain why, but I have always loved his songs. As far as I imagine, among main causes for that it may be counted that his attitude has always been very sincere with gentle smile, that he has never imposed his listeners his owm views, and that his songs are sonsistent with his life style.
This triple best covers his career from his very early days to the end of eighties. In some of his early songs surprisingly he sung strong messages sometimes with some political ideas in a very over-energish way. Of course these tracks fail to please me. However, it can be easily seen that immediately after that period he turned to his own style as I've mentioned which has been with him until his very last days. Though we can hardly say he was fully blessed by commercial success, certainly he was one of few singers with true originality.
Anyway, we miss his new song for ever. R.I.P.
