By Athena's touch I returned to Ithaca (IH-thick-uh) as an aged and ragged beggar. I began to wander around the city. I happened to stumble upon my son,Telemachaus (tell-EM-uh-cuss), who at that time did not recognize me. He treated me with kindness and respect, even with my outward appearance.
Telemachaus and I stepped into Eumaeus (you-ME-us), the swineherd's hut. Eumaeus was my old friend and trusted servant. It seemed kind of funny to me, out of all the people and creatures in Ithaca, only my beloved canine friend knew who I was. (And no, I'm not referring to my tooth.)
Athena just couldn't stand it any longer. In that hut she transformed me back to my original self. I then revealed my true identity to my son . We sat and plotted ways to recapture the kingdom that was rightfully mine.
