On October 25, 1993 determined Latina women gathered together to discuss bringing a chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma to Northern Illinois University (NIU). Their intentions were to provide an outlet for Latina women and all women alike to unite together in search of true sisterhood, provide opportunities and success in academics, and encouragement and support for each sister's future endeavors.
These women worked hard to accomplish their goal. They particiapted in community service, they provided educationals for the campus, and had fundraisers. After much work and determintation, these women were recognized as a chapter on July 23, 1994.
Since then, the women of Sigma Lambda Gamma-Eta Chapter have worked very hard to accomplish their goal of bringing to the women on NIU's campus an organization to supplement one's pride in their culture and open opportunities for their future.
