1. People Are Doing The Right Thing! Smokers Of The World Unite. The health and safety of citizens? How, exactly, is anyone's health or safety endangered by a guy walking by with a cigarette between his lips at a huge outdoor fair? The smoking ban wasn't enacted to "protect" anyone's health or safety; it was designed to harass people who smoke.

2. Dousing Senator Hothead: By E.J. Montini. The unrelenting talk about Sen. John McCain's temper is beginning to get on my nerves. The endless stories, the hand wringing, the commentaries, the newspaper and magazine and TV reports. It's - how can I put this? - a tad annoying. A bit bothersome. A smidgen . . . WOULD YOU ALL JUST SHUT UP, ALREADY!

3. Presidential Candidates on the Issues: Issues 2000. Tired of media reports of fundraising and poll results instead of policy issues? Welcome to Issues2000, where you can see every candidates' view on every issue.

4. Make Individuals More Responsible For Their Health: By Barnard Starr. THE health-care bank is hemorrhaging with no end in sight. The surgeon general says we can stop it by simply changing health behaviors. Is it time for an individual health competency standard?
Also see:
Treat Eaters Like Smokers: By Nancy Giuriati. Perhaps we should take measures to combat obesity similar to those we have used to suppress smoking. For example, overweight people, who tax their health care/health insurance more than their share, could face higher-than-average premiums to compensate for the extra costs they bring to the other members of their programs.

5. Minority Groups Decry Cigarette Ads: By Martha Irvine. Companies are usually applauded for using more ethnic images in their advertisements. But a coalition of minority health organizations has taken aim at Phillip Morris, accusing the tobacco company of unfairly targeting black, Hispanic and Asian communities in a new series of ads appearing in women's magazines.

6. DCR Assigns Rating to Nassau County Tobacco Settlement Corp.'s Bond Issue: Duff & Phelps Credit Rating Co. (DCR has assigned a 'A+' (Single A-Plus) rating to Nassau County Tobacco Settlement Corporation's $302,000,000 issuance of Tobacco Settlement Asset-Backed Bonds, Series A. The rating assigned to the Series A bonds addresses the timely payment of interest and the ultimate payment of principal by the rated maturity dates of the bonds. Credit enhancement for the bonds is provided by a liquidity reserve, overcollateralization and, to the extent necessary, certain trapping events.

7. Consider Smoking: Cigarettes Cheaper! Life is terminal. Smoking won't affect the certainty of your morality. Avoiding cigarettes will not ensure eternal life. You should smoke if it makes your life better.

8. We Are Everyday People:
*** When Militias are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have Militias: By Richard Poe. ... in Switzerland. There, every able-bodied man between the ages of 20 and 42 serves in the militia, and is required by law to keep a Sturmgewehr 90 assault rifle at home, ready for action. While the rest of Europe reels from wars, riots, ethnic cleansings, tumbling governments, terrorism and crime waves, the Swiss enjoy peace, prosperity and a crime rate lower than England's.

*** All Points Of View Links: Independence Institute. These links are provided to encourage you to access ALL points of view. The staff of the Independence Institute strongly believes that only an educated society can correctly make the crucial decisions that face our nation.

*** Parents Of Girl Who Killed Herself May Sue District: PioneerPlanet. A Shawano couple has been denied a claim for damages in the death of their daughter, who came home from school and committed suicide after getting a three-day suspension for having a cigarette in her gym bag.

*** OK to Ban Nudity? ThirdAge. The club owner says nude dancing is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution. What's your opinion?

"You can prove anything with statistics. 14% of people know that."
