The scenary came from Moss Nook School and the Nativity play at William Temple Church was performed by pupils at Brownley Green Secondary School last week.
"The schools will be merged when they go comprehensive, and this is our first joint venture."said Mr. D. McFarlane of Brownley Green School.
About 80 children from Moss Nook School went along to join in with the singing. Some had helped make the huge coloured mural which provided a background for the play.
This was done in a series of flashbacks with youngsters of the present day talking about the Nativity. Janet Mills and Ray Codling were the children telling the story, and others taking part were: Susan Wolstenholme, Barbara Wright, Paul Smith, William Longden, Chris Iceley, Richard Stone, Kenneth Wright, Kevin Ramsey and Stephen Pulcella.
Brownley Green also provided the choral speaking group and the choir.
Another Moss Nook mural is also planned for the church, but this will not be ready untill after Christmas. The third time the school will have made a mural William Temple, it will span Christ's life from the cradle to the grave.
Said the Vicar, the Reverand Thomas Evans :"I've been into art lessons with them and we've worked this thing out together."

Many ,many  thanks to Marlene Sheldon (1962-1967), who went beyond the call of duty to get this document to me.
This Valedictory booklet commemerates the closing of Brownley Green Secondary School in 1967, when it then changed its name to South Wythenshawe High School(upper) and became a comprehensive school.
The service was held in William Temple Church.
This booklet must be very rare indeed, perhaps the last remaining one....unless you know different?

Our school must have a really high teacher turnover, i can only recall two or three names below that were still there when i began in 1972.

This has been your final act of worship as a pupil of Brownley Green Secondary School. Please retain this order of service as a souvenir of the occasion, so that perhaps sometime in the future it may revive happy memories of your school.
