Sid Smith here,
If I can be of any interest to you please feel free to contact me.
I started at Brownley Green in 1951 and went through Infants, Juniors, and Seniors, leaving in 1962.I don't know of any other
student who had all their education at one school. I have a few photos of people rather than buildings. And can remember the
layout of the place in the early to mid 50's. Early memories of school life are a bit vague. Can remember taking my 11 plus
at West Wythenshawe Tech. It was a brand new school then, I don't think it was open for business at the time. I remember admiring
the individual desks and the chairs. We still used the cast iron framed double desk with the ceramic ink pot in the top and
the lift up wooden seat.My first teacher was a Miss Tolson, Head master was Mr. Redfern. I have attached a photo taken in
1960 of myself on the left, Dave Daniels at the back and Jeff Power with the bat. At the back is the girls entrance to the
southern quadrangle, with the new gym on the right. Mr. Platt was the first male gym teacher we had very strict ex army pt
instructor. we used to get the slipper or the strap at the drop of the hat. all in all I enjoyed my last few years at school.
So if I can be of any help to your great site let me know.
All the very best,
Sid Smith.
