This is the 6/24/00 version of this page. If you see a later date here from the version you have,it means that something has been changed here to clarify something.

1.How to use Cut & Paste-The secret to cut & paste is that you HAVE to do the steps in the proper sequence,so you will see below the steps in the order that they MUST be performed. 1.Have what you want to copy showing on your screen. 2.Use the 'Find' button on the top row of your keyboard or use the 'Options' button on the bottom row of your keyboard and then click on the 'Find' to get the the "find box". Type in the string of characters you wish to find and then click it. The computer will highlight (reverse text) the first time that string appears on the page showing on your screen. If you want another occurrence of that string, then type cmd+G and the highlight will move to the next one. Continue with cmd+G until you find the one you want. 3.HOLD DOWN the shift key and use the arrow keys to highlight all the text you want. Then refer to the appropriate operation below. 3.A.To highlight text going DOWN,put your cursor BEFORE the text you want to mark and press the arrow DOWN key to the END of the text you want to move or cut. 3.B.To highlight text going UP,put your cursor AFTER the text you want to mark and press the arrow UP key to the START of the text you want to move or cut. 3.C.To highlight text going RIGHT,put your cursor BEFORE the text you want to mark and press the arrow right key to the END of the text you want to move or cut. 3.D.To highlight text going LEFT,put your cursor AFTER the text you want to mark and press the arrow left key to the START of the text you want to move or cut. 4.Press cmd+C to store the text into memory. YOU MUST HEAR THE CLICKING SOUND,IF YOU DON'T, THEN YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG! BE SURE YOU HAVE THE VOLUME TURNED UP TO LET YOU HEAR THE CLICK! No click tells you the text is NOT in memory to be moved or erased. To delete the highlighted text,go to Step 5. To move (copy) the highlighted text skip to Step 6. 5.If you press cmd+X,it will REMOVE the block of highlighted text. WARNING!!! Be CAREFUL with this command, once the text disappears,it is gone FOREVER! 6.Go to wherever you want the text to be and press cmd+V and the text should re-appear there. IF YOU HEARD THE CLICKING SOUND PREVIOUSLY!

Important Notes:
A.You can have only one block of text in the memory at a time,if you "cut" a new block somewhere else,it will ERASE the old block. It HAS to be a continuous block. If the the text you want is not, then you will have to do each block ONE AT A TIME. B.You can paste the same text in as many times as you wish in different places by repeating Step 6 above. C.The block gets ERASED if you change users or turn the box off. D.To use that text for another user on your WebTV box, send it like an email and cut & paste from the email message when you arrive at the other user's messages. Go to your email page and press cmd+V and the text will appear in your email message. Then just send it to your other user name. E.You CANNOT use cut & paste to transfer text between other user names. This is because the memory is cleared EACH time you switch users. F.The old text block will stay in the memory until you: 1.Shut off the WebTV box. 2.Switch users. 3.Do another cmd+C. 4.Do a cmd+X. 5.Have your WebTV box "lock up" if the memory gets filled up.

2.A.If you are viewing a received email or you are in the newsgroups, you may see some cute pictures, special effects, or hear music that you like and want for your own use, this is html code creating that, and you can obtain the written out code for yourself by using the procedures described below.   1.Have the message you want the html from appearing on your screen. 2.Click on the "forward" option on the left side of your screen. 3.Move your cursor just under the subject line into the body of the letter to the TOP LEFT corner. 4.Press the return key TWO TIMES. 5.Press the alt+K to get the † character or the alt+Z to get the § character. (Either one works and probably other ones do too). 6.Press cmd+A.(The character will "light up",if it doesn't,then you did something wrong). 7.Then press shift+UP arrow AND MOVE THE CURSOR UP TO THE TOP FAR LEFT UNDER THE SUBJECT LINE. 8.Press cmd+C.(If you don't hear the "clicking sound",then you did something wrong. BE SURE THAT YOUR VOLUME IS TURNED UP LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR THE SOUND EFFECTS!). 9.Move the cursor to the FAR LEFT side of the subject line. 10.Press cmd+V.(Two empty lines and the alt character SHOULD appear for a total of THREE lines. If they don't,then you did something wrong). 11.Send the email to yourself. 12.The email will return to you with the html code turned off so you can see the codes someone used to make the items appear.(The email may NOT come back for awhile if WebTV is overloaded AGAIN. It WILL come back someday). Notes:1.The return key has no symbol so you will see only "empty space",but, the computer "knows" that it is a return.2.When the email comes back,YOUR portion will be on the TOP and the other portion is on the BOTTOM.

2.B.Another Method to Bounce Emails to see the codes- 1.Click on "Forward". 2.Put YOUR email address in the To: box. 3.Type (html)(xmp)(/html) with NO SPACES before it or ABOVE it. REPLACE the parenthesis with the less than/greater than signs. 4.Scroll down and send the email. 5.The email will return with all the html codes shut off for you to view. It does not always return right away, but,it WILL someday. 6.The codes in the upper portion are YOUR html and the codes in the lower portion are the html of what you want to view.

NOTE: THIS CODE LISTED FOR NO.3 DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK ANYMORE AS OF 1/5/00,IF YOU KNOW A CODE THAT DOES WORK,PLEASE SEND IT TO ME FOR TESTING AND I WILL PUT IT HERE INSTEAD.

3.To get a confirmation that someone viewed your email, use this code- (embed src="mailto:bob?message_to=whoever@whatever.whereever&signature=true&sendoff=true&message_subject=Email_Peek_Notice&wtv-tricks=true") . Notes: 1.Replace whoever@whatever.whereever with the email address that you want the notice to go to. 2.Be ready for LOTS of messages so use an email address that you don't mind being flooded. 3.EVERY time your email is viewed, you will get the notice that it was viewed. 4.This is automatic and the other person doesn't have to do anything except view the message. 5.You get back their email body and their signature (if they have one). 6.Put NO spaces ANYWHERE in the code EXCEPT between embed and src (there you put ONE AND ONLY ONE space). 7.This appears to ONLY work with WebTV email names,or in other words, one WebTV name to another WebTV name and vice versa.
