After a nice break I write to you all once again from the small community of University Heights, Ohio. During the break I was able to catch a few KSU games live, including the fantastic win over Boston College at the Rock and Roll Shootout. As always seems to happen with Kent State basketball, all good things come with a BUT...
KENT STATE LOST TO BOWLING GREEN! No knock to the program Dan Dakich has built, but they are way below the level that Kent State plays at.
The first half went very well, it was what I, and most everyone else expected. But the second half was one of the worst halves of basketball I've ever seen in my life. The offense went completely stagnant. Who can we blame for this, the whole team obviously, but especially the man who seems to be my favorite target as of late, Antonio Gates. Even a friend of mine who saw the Flashes for the first time this season said that in the second half Gates "did nothing to contribute to the offense. He just stood at the top of the key and the offense died." I'm not even blaming him for the fact that he shot 3-12 because everyone has bad nights from time to time. In my mind he went 0-1. That one shot being his turn-around-fade-away from the elbow in double coverage with about 10-20 seconds left in the game that killed Kent's chances of ever coming back. If my memory serves me correctly, that shot, had it gone in would have put the Flashes up 1. Gates needs to learn to pass in that situation. I don't care how many points you put up in a game, that shot was awful. Find the open man Gates, give your team a chance to win.
If anyone is looking for a late gift idea for Antonio, I would suggest a pack of ice to keep the swelling of his head down.
