Meet the REAL

Sugar and Spike!!!

What inspired Sheldon Mayer to create a series of comics on the misadventures of two little adorable toddlers?

He had great source material -- Merrily and Lanney, were his children - both born in the mid 40's.

Here are more shots of Merrily!

Merrily, the lil' "Sugar", dated 1944

And in 1946

The Bronx Zoo, 1946

Tale behind the above picture, from Merrily Mayer herself: "My Dad told me that these were total strangers that I just moved out of my way so I could see whatever it was that was behind the bars."
