ISTILAH MELAYU (MALAY GLOSSARY)

Antibiotik Herba-herba yang telah dikaji dan dipastikan boleh mengawal jankitan kuman bakteria. Herbs that have been found to have some action against bacterial infection.
Banyak musim Tumbuhan yang hidup banyak musim, banyak tahun. Perennials.
Dua musim Tumbuhan yang hidup dua musim. Dalam musim pertama, pokok itu membiak, membesar dan menyimpan makanannya. Pada musim kedua pokok itu berbunga berbuah dan kemudian mati. Contoh: bawang, keladi, ubi kayu. Biennials.
Flora Keseluruhan tumbuhan-tumbuhan yang terdapat di sesuatu daerah atau kawasan atau pada sesuatu masa. All plants that can be found in one district or region or at one period in time.
Gambut Bahan tumbuhan ruput dibawah tanah. Peat.
Kelopak Bahagian struktor bunga yang cantik, halus, berwarna, yang menjadi penutup atau pembalut kepada organ pembiakan bunga. Petals.
Semusim Tumbuhan yang hidup semusim. Dalam masa ini, pokok itu membiak daripada biji benih, membesar, berbunga, berbuah dan kemudian mati. Contoh: kembong, bunga matahari, ketumbar. Annuals.

ISTILAH INGGERIS (ENGLISH GLOSSARY)

acidic soil Tanah yang kandungan asidnya tinggi. Soil where the acid content is high.
aerial root akar udara. Roots that are existing or suspended or growing in the air. They are used for absorbing moisture from the air, as in orchids, or for breathing as in mangrove plants.
Agriculture Pertanian. Science or practice of cultivating the land and rearing animals.
algae alga Very simple plants with no true stems or leaves, found mainly in water. Some large seaweeds are algae.
alkali alkali Substances that neutralize acids and form caustic or corrosive solutions in water.

Anti inflammatory Herba-herba yang boleh mengurangkan badan panas, demam panas, dll. Herbs that cools the body and removes heat toxin, one that removes the feeling of body heatiness, feverish, ease the excessive fever in acute febrile illness and pyogenic infections.
Bell flower Sama dengan sympetalae, bunga tiub, atau kampanulate. Kelopaknya disambung pada pangkalnya supaya dapat bentuk seperti locing. Same as sympetalae, tubular flower, or campanulate. The petals are joined at the base to form a shape like the bell.
Bog Rawa gambut. A peat swamp.
Diaphoretic Herba-herba yang boleh mengurangkan tanda-tanda luar yang disebabkan oleh ketidakupayaan badan mengelakkan demam seperti selsema, sejuk, demam panas, pening kepala, hidung tersumbat, batuk, lidah berasa tawar, dan tekanan darah tidak seimbang. Herbs that offers relief from external symptoms brought about by low body resistance to common cold, chills, fever, headache, malaise, nasal stuffness, cough, white furry tongue, floating pulse etc.
Disc florets Se kelompok bunga kecil dimana kelopaknya semua sama saiz. A cluster of tiny flowers whose petals are all the same size.
Ephemeral Tumbukan atau haiwan yang hidup pada masa yang singkat sahaja. spt. cendawan Plants or animals that live for a very short time. e.g. toadstool, mayfly
Florets Se kelompok bunga kecil. A cluster of tiny flowers.
Flowerhead Se kelompok bunga kecil atas satu tangkai. Bunga komposit. A cluster of florets on a stalk. A composite flower.
Inflorescence Se jambak bunga atau kelompok bunga yang keluar dari satu pusat (tangkai). A group of flowers or flowerheads growing from one point (tangkai).
Lipped flower Se kuntum bunga yang ada bibir, biasanya dengan bibir atas dan bibir bawah. Bibir atas biasanya mempunyai satu tudung. A flower with lips, usually an upper and lower one. The upper one often has a hood.
Peat Gambut. Decayed plant matter under the ground.
Peaty Bergambut. Soil with a lot of decayed plant matter.
Petals Kelopak. The pretty, delicate, colourful structures of a flower around the male and or female plant reproductive organ.
Ray florets Se kelompok bunga kecil dimana kelopaknya panjang, atau mempunyai struktur seperti kelopak berbulu panjang. A cluster of tiny flowers with long petals, or long hairy petal-liked structures.
Spurred flower Sejenis bunga dimana satu atau lebih dari satu kelopak yang ditujukan kebelakang, menjadi penonjol. A flower with one or more petals extendes backwards to form spurs.
Umberllifer Se jambak bunga yang mempunyai bentuk seperti payong. An inflorescence with umbrella shaped flowerheads
