THEODOR SEUSS GEISEL
The guy who wrote the funny books we read--
It says right here that now he is dead.
"Theodor Seuss Geisel" was too much to chew.
So "Dr Seuss" was the name everyone knew.
I didn't recognize his name 'til I looked in the middle.
Just like him, of course, forever a riddle.
Was it Geasle like weasle or Gizel like Wizel?
But who cares, they'd ask -- all the shimizels and zizels .
The photo they showed -- an old guy with a beard
didn't look like a man to write so much and so weird.
But, boy, could he write, and how he could rhyme.
And make us all laugh time after time
At the Cat in the Hat and his mischievous friends
at Sam-I-Am and his green eggs and hams.
We always liked his books, you see
My kids, my wife, and 'specially me.
Some say his stories had social import
But they just made us laugh and snort.
He made us laugh and he made us smile
And made reading fun all the while
We won't miss Geisel, which sounds like Gizel.
We won't even miss Seuss, which sound like moose.
We won't miss him at all 'cause Seuss still lives
In each smile that each book to each of us gives.
The Cat in the Hat is bringing you a Birthday Cake.
