M&Ms
Chapter Six
By Crystal
Later that night
I cooked spaghetti and made a delicious
salad. We were eating at the table when Nick brought up Sass.
"So tell me more about your sister."
"Well, like I said, she's thirteen, starting high school
this year. She doesn't look thirteen though. If you just saw her
walking down the street you would think she's at least sixteen or
seventeen. She's a couple inches shorter than me, has long, honey
blonde hair and brown eyes. She's a complete individual. She
kinda dresses like that other guy in your group
what's his
name? AJ! She's unique, like him. And she sings."
Nick looked up and smiled. "She's a singer?"
"Oh she's much more than that. Let me tell you, this girl
could sing circles around Christina Aguilera. She was just
recently in a talent competition, which she won, of course, and
she sang 'I Need You Tonight'."
"That's my song!"
"It is? Sorry, I've only heard her sing it. I don't know how
you do it but she does it fantastically. Of course she would sing
a BSB song" I laughed.
"You've never heard the song?" he asked, shocked.
"Nope. I told you that I'm not into your music. I wouldn't
know the difference between a Backstreet song and a Britney
Spears song."
"Well in that case I feel sorry for you" he retorted.
"Well it's not my fault that I'm not a fan. At least I'm not
jumping all over you," I reasoned.
"Now that I wouldn't mind!"
"I have a tape of her if you want to see it?" I
offered.
"I'd love to see it.
"I'll go get it." I walked into the computer room and
grabbed the tape from a shelf. "Come on over here."
Nick joined me in the living room. I popped the tape into the
VCR, turned on the TV and then joined Nick on the couch.
"Next we have a very promising young singer. Her name is
Ariana DeLaCruz and she's going to be singing 'I Need You
Tonight'." A girl, about five foot seven with long flowing
blonde hair came on. She was wearing a white leather halter dress
that reached her knees and white shoes. She walked up on stage
with a microphone in her hand and captivated the audience as soon
as the first note out of her mouth drifted into the audience.
I looked at Nick and watched his reaction as he watched Sass
sing. He didn't move at all, he just sat there and watched her.
When it was over, I used the remote to stop the tape and turn off
the TV. I scooted closer to Nick so that I was sitting right next
to him.
"Hey, what's the matter?"
Nick looked at me and smiled. "Her voice is very moving.
Very touching."
"Are you going to cry?" I asked as I put one of my
hands under his chin.
"No. Your sister is very talented. Does it run in the
family?"
"Are you kidding? I couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag.
No, Sass is the only one with the defective gene. The rest of the
DeLaCruz family is just insane."
"You're not. True you're unique, but far from insane."
"You've only known me for a week. Just you wait. In one
month you'll be so sick of me that you'll wish you had never sat
next to me on that plane," I joked.
"I highly doubt it. I bet that in a month I'll be madly in
love with you."
I smiled and shook my head at his gracious statement. "You
won't. We'll be, like, the best of friends or something."
"Is that what you want?" he asked, looking me in the
eyes.
"Come on Nick, let's not start having deep conversations
about possible relationships. Let's just enjoy our times
together."
"Deal." Nick leaned in and kissed me softly on my lips.
"Want me to help you with the dishes or anything?"
"Nope, I've got it under control."
"All right. I'm going to head off then. Thank you for
dinner. It was delicious."
"You're welcome! I'll call you and fill you in on Sass's
plans when I find out."
"Sounds good. I'll see you later."
"Bye Nick."
"Bye Brash."
I closed the door behind him and sighed. It's nice to have a
friend like him.
