Clark gets into politics, running for class president. One by one, bees attack his running mates. Clark suspects a candidate is purposely eliminating the competition, and he may be the next target.
What's up with candidate Paul? Paul Chan is the most qualified among
the candidates for class president. He is swarmed and stung by bees that attack
from their home in his bathroom drain.
What's up with candidate Felice? Felice Chandler is the snobby rich girl
cheerleader with the popularity vote.
What's up with Pete? Pete becomes Clark's campaign manager by posting
a banner and getting him into the election without talking first. Pete is not
much help on campaign platform, but he's great with "meet and greets" and promotion.
What's up with Clark? At first Clark dismisses the idea of running for
class president. The Kents and Lana encourage him to run. Clark has noble aspirations
that he can make a difference. He gets an idea for a slogan from Lex, "Clark
Kent for President -- Man of Tomorrow."
What's up with Chloe? She's covering the elections, with pics and bios
of each candidate, but can only endorse one in The Torch's editorial. When Chloe
pressures Clark on what he stands for, his reply is "Truth, justice
and other
stuff." Chloe objectively endorses Paul for president, hurting Clark's feelings.
Clark and Pete give Chloe the cold shoulder.
What's up with candidate Sasha? High-strung and worried about the competition,
Sasha Woodman has the swarm of bees under her control. Sasha had been attacked
by bees last year, and is now controlling all the bees in the state as their
queen. She asks the front-runner, Felice to drop out of the race. Felice refuses.
Later, Felice is found covered in bees inside her VW, leaving her comatose.
Next Sasha pressures and threatens Clark to drop out of the race.
What's up with Lana? The Beanery is gaining all customers from the Talon.
Lex wants Lana to figure out how to save the Talon's profits. He inspires her
to fight the Beanery creatively in a war for business. As they work on Clark's
campaign speech, Clark and Lana hear the bee swarm approaching. Clark pushes
Lana to safety, and leads the swarm into another room. Tearing a refrigeration
pipe from the wall, Clark freezes the bees.
What's up with Lex? Lex meets a Metropolis beauty with an attitude. She's
Kerrie Castle, staff reporter from the Metropolis Journal, in Smallville to
do a profile on Lex. Kerrie entices Lex with a fair cover story. At first he
declines, but then agrees. Lex gets a draft, and sees that Ms. Castle's article
doesn't deliver the flattering report she promised. She plans to make a name
for herself as a hard-hitting journalist. Lex tries to pay her off, but she
refuses and leaves. Later at the mansion, he tempts her with a job as Managing
Editor at the Metropolis Journal. It's an offer she can't refuse, and she agrees
to kill the article.
How it ends: Clark goes to Sasha's shed and finds Chloe there, tipped
off by Lana. He mends feelings with Chloe, telling her he values their constant
friendship. They find hives covering the ceiling. Chloe's research shows that
Sasha emits a "queen scent" acquired when she was stung 1000+ times by killer
bees living in a kryptonite-infected gorge in town. Not only are Smallville
students in danger, but so is Sasha if she loses control and the bees swarm
her.
Clark meets Sasha in his barn. He tells her he's dropping out of the election,
and confronts her with the truth. Sasha's confident in her power, and sends
the swarm to the field to attack Martha. Clark races to his mom, carrying her
to the safety of the storm cellar. Clark gets back to Sasha's shed. The bees
swarm the shed, breaking through windows, although Sasha didn't summon them.
Clark throws a tool at propane tanks, shielding Sasha from the resulting fiery
explosion.
Felice and Sasha both drop out of the race, yet Clark still doesn't win the
election. The victory goes to Paul, announced at a party at the Talon. Lex shows
up at the celebration. Lana impresses Lex with news of her fight with the Beanery,
and uncovering past health code violations. Consoling Clark in his political
loss, Lex tells Clark he "doesn't have to be an elected official to save the
world." When Clark asks if Lex ever considered politics, he replies, "Some day
I'd like to be President."

After Pete "volunteers" him, Clark runs for class president in another attempt to get a "normal life." However, his running mates are being sent to the hospital one-by-one by a swarm of kryptonite-controlled bees, and Clark suspects his opponent Sasha of being responsible. Clark thwarts several bee attacks on himself, Lana, and Martha Kent, and confronts Sasha. Sasha loses it and the bees attack her, and Clark blows up the hive to stop them. One of the hospitalized candidates wins, and Clark isn't too disappointed. Meanwhile, a woman reporter from Metropolis visits to do a story on Lex. When she writes an unflattering piece he buys her off with the promise of an editorial position. And Lana deals with the impending closure of the Talon with a little underhanded scheming of her own.

Lex: (to Clark) The man of tomorrow is shaped by his battles today.
Ms. Castle: I'll tell (Lionel) I got an offer I couldn't refuse.
Lana: And then he had the nerve to say "It's nothing personal, only business."
Clark: Why does everyone over 40 have to quote 'The Godfather'?
Lex: To quote The Godfather, "It's time to go to the mattresses".
Sasha: She is trying to buy this election like one of her Prada bags!
Clark: I can't believe Pete did this.
Chloe: I know. Some men are born to greatness, others are dragged into it kicking and screaming.
Lex: Appearance is deceptive. Nothing around here is what it seems.
Clark: You know, if it was such a great gig, why didn't you run?
Pete: I know my strengths. I'm more the power behind the throne, the guy behind the guy, the one who makes it all happen.
Chloe: Pete Ross: The Kingmaker.
Pete: Clark, you've got the whole package: looks, brains, and that whole farm boy charm.
Clark: I believe in my friends and their dreams.
Lana: What if their dreams come crashing down around them?
Clark: Nothing's crashing down around you, Lana - not while I'm here.
Castle: It took a while to figure out what would tempt you. Then it hit me. It's not your picture on the cover of the Journal so much as the words "son outshines father" in the caption. How am I doing?
Lana: Yeah, that's the last step before I institute topless waitressing.
Pete: Well, here's to hoping it fails miserably.
Chloe: I can't believe it only took one day for you to be compromised by the lure of popularity.
Clark: Remind me to pull your funding after I'm elected.
Clark: That's weird, bees are notorious followers. They wouldn't desert their hive without good reason.
(Chloe gives him a look)
Clark: My mom's addicted to the Discovery Channel.
Chloe: Okay, well I think the Man of Tomorrow needs to get a platform for today.
Chloe: "Clark Kent, Man of Tomorrow". Kind of presumptuous, don't you think?
Clark: I like it.
Lana: That's too bad. I think you'd make a great class president.
Clark: Really?
Lana: Yeah. You're honest. People trust you. And you have this innate sense of justice. I can see it on your face how upset you get every time you think somebody's being mistreated.
Clark: You see all that in me?
Lana: Yes I do.
Jonathan: Clark, you can quit if you want, but remember: quitting's a very hard habit to break.
Lana: I felt I had to choose between doing the right thing and being successful. Weird part is, I kind of enjoyed being underhanded.
Clark: Lana Lang, seduced by the dark side? Who woulda thunk?
Clark: Chloe, not that I'm planning to, but if I ran, do you think I'd have a shot?
Chloe: Yeah, right after I'm elected head cheerleader.
Clark: My father says you learn more about yourself when you lose.
Lex: What'd you learn?
Clark: That I'm not destined to be a politician. You need two different personalities.
Lex: You don't need to be an elected official to change the world, Clark.
Clark: Have you ever thought about getting into politics?
Lex: Someday I'd like to be president.
Clark: You ran a good campaign, Pete. We had fun, we met some new people, and we have enough t-shirts to last a lifetime.
Chloe: What do you stand for?
Clark: I stand for truth, justice, and some other stuff...
Chloe: I think the man of tomorrow needs to get a platform for today.

Three candidates are running for president at Smallville High: Paul Chan, the most qualified, but not so popular kid; Felice, the popular, head cheerleader who throws fancy parties to encourage people to vote for her, and Sasha, a hard worker who doesn't really have leadership potential. Strangely, Paul gets attacked by a sworn of bees in his bathroom and ends up in the hospital.
Pete Ross volunteers Clark Kent for president. Clark first thinks of withdrawing, but reconsiders after his parents encourage him. He is further convinced to remain in the race when he feels Sasha is over-eager for him to quit.
She runs her campaign from a barn near her house. When she entered, she is surrounded by bees who seem to respond to her and respect her. To make her feel better after a tough day, they even buzz into a formation of her face. Chloe Sullivan does some investigating and finds that beekeepers from all over the state have found their hives empty, the bees colonies having just deserted them, which is out of character for bees.
Sasha encourages Felice to drop out. Later, Principal Kwan finds Felice being attacked by bees in her car, and is sent to the hospital, where she remained in a coma. Clark related the two accidents to Sasha's accident a year ago, where she was stung by bees. He believes she may have found a way to control them after that.
Sasha requests that Clark drop out. When he refuses and lets her know that he is onto her, she sends the bees to The Talon, where Clark is working on his speech with Lana. He saves Lana from the bees and freezes them.
Chloe finds out that she must be emitting the queen bee pheromone, that she must have received after her accident last year, where she was stung by bees near a meteor crater. But Clark remarks that if she starts losing it, then the bees will turn against her. He tries to get Sasha to quit, but she explains that she can't due to pressure by her parents. She sends bees to attack Martha, but Clark saves his mother from them. When, in a final confrontation, Sasha becomes hysterical, the bees go to attack her, but Clark saves her and blows up the barn.
Sasha and Felice both drop out, and Paul Chan, who is still in hospital, wins the race.
