Name: Ishin Nakamura
Current Rank: Lt. Commander
Position Held: Commanding
Officer
Species: Human
Gender:
Male
Age: 37
Born: July 22 2347
POB: Hukae, Minos Korva
Appearance: Although Ishin
strives to go above the standard with his spit polish attire and his clean shaven face. His features are somewhat wore and
weary given his many years laboring in stressful environments. His body is of a generally average built with a slight ‘pot’
belly growing given his growing years.
Personality:
Nakamura is an incredibly
bright and resourceful individual. His experience as a leader in Starfleet has taught him to ‘think on his feet’
and adapt to various stressful situations. Koji’s occasionally (according to his past peers) can be seen as an arrogant,
black and white type of character. Nakamura is a typical by the book senior officer in the fleet. He’s known to be a
nut buster when his subordinate heads slack off or when taskings go incomplete, but sticks with a typical firm but fair leadership
style.
Family:
Father: Master Chief Petty
Officer Matsuka Nakamura (retired)
Mother: Petty Officer 2nd Class Yuki Junichiro (retired)
Background:
Ishin Nakamura was raised
in the urban sprawl of Hukae on the federation planet of Minos Korva and was raised with a family with deep roots to Starfleet
at the height of the Cardassian border wars. His parents Matsuka Nakamura and Yuki Junichiro were long serving members of
Starfleet. His father, Matsuka was a veteran of the Tzenkethi war and served most of his tour on the USS Okinawa as a gunner’s
mate where he ended up losing a leg during a skirmish the two opposing forces. It was at that moment that Matsuka’s
war was over, as he was reassigned to an outpost on Minos Korva for the remainder of his tour. He spent the rest of the war
raising his only son and serving as an recruitment NCO for Starfleet, while his mother served as a engineer’s mate on
the USS Victory a constellation class patrol frigate.
As he continued growing up on Hukae much of his teenage years
were disrupted by the constant raid alerts, and the constant state of emergency erected over the colonial city. Because of
the constant state of vigilance along the Cardassian border, Ishin never managed to go out and socialize in public. In fact
most of his time spent away from schooling was staring out of his window from his house as parades of Starfleet and Marine
personnel marched and patrolled along the main corridors of the colony. Along with being raised in a fleet family, the constant
image of troops on the streets marching to war, and the media advertising and praising their forces, it was safe to say that
Ishin was on some level socialized by the Starfleet.
After the war was over his father continued his service with Starfleet
and eventually rose to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and became the sector coxswain. His mother though was discharged
from the fleet and remained at home as a housewife. She would later get involved in politics on the colony level and became
a party organizer for the Social Democratic Party. Ishin himself also learned to get politically involved and during his teenager
years often canvassed for various candidates. He at one point considered pursing Political Science and going off to college.
Instead Koji kept to his original aspirations and decided to carry the family banner by enlisting into the Starfleet as a
boatswain. Soon after finishing his contractual tour and getting assigned to the USS Constellation as a boatswain and having
a taste of the life, it became apparent that he would never look back to further his education.
After several years
in the fleet he took various courses to qualify as an ordinance specialist before shifting to engineering divisions, eventually
getting promoted to the position of Engineer’s Mate. There he would serve various tours doing repair and maintenance
orders. When the ten year mark of his career came close by he was formally promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 1st
Class and assigned as to the USS Columbia as an engineer’s mate. By that time though, war had broken out between the
Federation and the Dominion.
Though he initially did well working in the command division, problems appeared more
rampant as combat grew fierce and casualties mounted. His enlisted command of the ship’s company was mired by incidents
in where Nakamura would buckle down and become down right harsh to some of the enlisted ranks. A climax in his growing agitation
and stress was when he stayed on watch for nearly three days without sleep when the ship remained at general quarters for
a full week. During this incident he lost control and assaulted a novice sailor, after an accidental discharge of a plasma
conduit. No charges were laid, but Nakamura in shame requested a transfer in which he requested to be withheld from holding
a Mate’s position.
In a strange twist, the Columbia was destroyed
with all hands which to this day Nakamura considers a lucky twist. He would serve the remainder of the war as a maintenance
worker for the USS Venture. After the war he transferred to the Valley Forge which was part of the
occupational forces in Cardassian Space. He would be promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and would later serve as
her Chief of Boat until 2380 where he was put in for a commission and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander when he
took up an offer as executive officer of the USS Thomas Vanderbilt on the twenty year mark of his career in Starfleet.
