Name: Akira Gabriel
Caine
Current Rank:
Lieutenant
Position Held:
Commander, Air Tactical Detachment
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 35
Born July 10, 2349
POB: Ganymede,
Jupiter, Sol
Appearance:
Lanky with brows
that are usually furrowed in deep concentration and a bit emaciated from the stress he's seen over the years, Akira still
stands tall (at 5'8"). His generally shipshape appearance is marred only by his
lengthy, unkempt mop of hair which he has kept throughout most of his service in Starfleet.
Underneath his tunic is a toned and wiry physique maintained by a strong daily regimen of exercise. His left arm is a cybernetic prosthetic and is generally hidden behind a black glove.
Personality:
Underneath the
cold and distant veneer of a former Security Officer turned CAG lays the joking persona that few have seen. His personal motto of headwork first followed by hard play has yet to fail him, just don't interrupt him
on his day off... He tends to turn a blind eye to the occasional mischief but
his personal pet peeve is any sign of dereliction of duty.
Family:
Father: Sojiro
Nishikado, Chief Warrant Officer (Ret.), Deceased (2352)
Mother: Amelia
Nishikado, Ensign, Deceased (2352)
God-Father: Lucien
Caine, Sr. Chief Petty Officer (Ret.), Deceased (2366)
Background:
Shortly after
his birth, Akira's parents were involved in a tragic accident involving an overloaded plasma conduit. The three year old Akira was placed in the hands of his God-father Lucien Caine. Lucien Caine had been good friends with Akira's parents having served for nearly 20 years with Akira's
father, been the best man at Sojiro and Amelia's wedding, and even the camera man at Akira's birth. After his adoption, Akira grew up in the Tea shop that had been the joint dream of Lucien, Sojiro and Amelia. On the water planet of Ganymede Akira spent his days carefree, roaming everywhere
in the small atoll town, and eventually learning to pilot various water and aircraft to explore and visit neighboring towns. Unfortunately an accident involving a loose gyro in a rotary craft left Akira hospitalized
for several months and permanently blinded in one eye. During the several months
of recuperation Akira was exposed to the world of music and discovered his talent to detect minute harmonics and fluctuations.
Upon completing
his Primary Education, Akira was awarded a full scholarship to the Aldebaran Music
Academy to study the pipe organ. However,
Akira had barely completed his first year of study before his God-father passed away.
Deciding to honor his family history of military service and signed up for the Starfleet Enlisted Corps (his blindness
excluded him from service as a pilot). Akira invested his inheritance, a combined
savings from his father, mother, and godfather, and left the Tea shop in the capable hands of it's manager (at last he heard
it had become quite the interstellar commodity).
Upon completion
of Basic Training, Akira found himself in the tactical/security division. Within
a short span of 8 years Akira was granted a commission in his field and promoted to Assistant Chief Tactical Officer. However in the vicious, though successful, defense against the Second Borg Invasion,
Akira was among those critically wounded. His left arm severely damaged in the
attack it was necessary to amputate due to lack of immediate medical treatment. Given
temporary medical leave, Akira secured himself transport to the Daystrom Research Institute.
Choosing to replace his limb with something more useful than a biosynthetic prosthetic, Akira opted for the cybernetic
replacement. It rendered him incapable of any sensation in that arm, but that
was preferred over the ghost pain that accompanied a regular prosthetic. While
there Akira also received a prototype cybernetic implant that restored vision to his blindside.
After completing
physical therapy, Akira applied to and was accepted into the Officer Candidate
School in San Francisco. Entering in the field of Aeroscience, he completed his training shortly before the Breen Raid. As part the 106th Valkyrie squadron Akira fought heavily against other Breen fighters in head to head aerial
combat. Now with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, Akira would be stationed
aboard the USS Potemkin as a Tactical Systems Operator, a back seater to the actual Fighter Pilot (a role he would eventually
fill).
