Episode 36 Willie West & Car Accidents
Thursday, February 3, 2005 At The Palace Restaurant, John and Natalie are talking. John is trying to get Natalie to admit that she loves how he has interfered in her life and flamed her suspicions about Cris, while denying that he has any personal stake in her marriage falling apart. John: Why, exactly, are you so glad he got rid of the gun? Natalie: I shouldn't have said that. Don't look at me like that. I have to go be with Jess. John: Hey, wait, wait, don't do that. Don't just walk away without answering the question. Natalie: I don't know why I'm glad. Ok, I do know, John. You're making me paranoid. You're making me feel all these awful thoughts about my husband. John: Nobody made you do anything, Natalie. Natalie: John, Cristian would never shoot anyone. He really -- he hated Tico, and I'm worried that when he finds out Antonio is in jail for murdering him he'll be really upset. John: Ok. Ok. Well, maybe we'll know more about what we're dealing with when we get the results of Cris' DNA test back. Natalie: I don't need to hear the results, ok? Cristian -- he's been through hell! He's been traumatized, so if he's been acting distant or a little strange, maybe that's why. Ok, the man who came back to me is my husband. John: I hope you're right, Natalie. Michael walks into the restaurant and Natalie gratefully directs John’s attention to Michael. Natalie: There's your brother. John: Yeah, I wanted to talk to him. Natalie: Go. Please. John: Talk to you later? Natalie RHELBW. John approaches Michael. John: Hey, how you doing, bro? Michael: I'm good, John. Listen, I've got some good news, so I figure I'll just launch right into it and get it out of the way. John: You got good news? Michael: Yes, I do. John: I could use some good news. Michael: Ok, since they arrested Antonio for Tico Santi's murder, the hospital board has voted to reinstate me. I start work tomorrow. John: I had no doubt that would happen. Michael: Listen, I'm sorry about Antonio. You know, I know he's your buddy and -- John: But you're my brother, all right, so I can still be happy for you, right? Michael: Right on. John: What do you say I buy you a drink? Michael: Yeah, a drink sounds good. John: Yeah? Come on, over here. Get a couple drafts? They walk over to the bar. Michael: I can only stay for one drink, though. A couple guys from the hospital are throwing a little shindig for me over at Rodi's. John: A little shindig, huh? Michael: Yeah, man. John: Yeah? Yeah, maybe I'll crash it. Michael: That'd be great. John: Yeah? Michael: Yeah. John: Maybe I'll crash it with Evangeline, then. Michael: Even greater. Listen, I'm glad you guys are doing good. John: Me, too. Hey, is Marcie going to be there? Michael: If you're asking if we're back together, the answer is no. John: I just -- I thought because, well, you know, she was pretty instrumental in getting Jess to remember who she saw kill Tico, that -- Michael: I owe her bigtime. John: Yeah. You also look like you miss her.
Meanwhile, at a table at The Palace, Hayes is talking to Marcie but Marcie can’t keep her eyes off of Michael. Hayes: So I got the guest list for the party here. It reads like a who's-who of the business. Marcie: What? What does? Hayes: The guest list for your publishing party? Marcie: Oh, right. You know, I'm sorry. Will you excuse me just for one second? I will be right back. Hayes: Yeah. Marcie: Ok? Marcie rushes over to Michael. Marcie: Michael? Hi. Look, I heard -- I heard you were going to be reinstated, and I'm so relieved. It's really -- it's great. It's great news. Michael: Yeah, well, it's all because of you. Marcie: Well, I'm really happy for you, you know? Everything's ok, and that you're going back to work. Michael: Yeah, me, too. Marcie: John, I -- John: Hmm? Marcie: Sorry, I heard about Antonio. I know you guys are good friends. John: Yeah, it's going to be ok, Marcie. Marcie: You know, I'm over here with Hayes. I got to go. I have a meeting, so -- Michael: Yeah, right, of course. Marcie: I'll see you later. Michael: Yeah. Marcie: Bye. John: Hey, Marcie, Marcie, wait. You know, Mr. Short-term memory here -- he wanted to -- what there is -- there's a little party for Michael tonight at Rodi's, and he -- Marcie: Oh. Michael: Yeah, I just sort of -- john: Lot on his mind. Michael: Forgot. I mean, I was going to ask you to come. You want to come? Marcie: I -- oh, I would really, really like to. But, you know, I have another meeting with a stylist later. It's for my -- you know, that big publishing party -- Michael: Yeah, no, I -- Marcie: I think I told you about that. Michael: I understand. Marcie: Yeah. Michael: Yeah. Marcie: Well, there's a lot to do -- prepare, you know? Michael: Of course. Marcie: Right. Michael: Right. Marcie: I'm sorry. I'll see you later. Michael: Hey, Marce? Marcie: Yeah? Michael: I'm glad to hear that things are going so well for you. Marcie: Thanks, Michael. Marcie rejoins Hayes, but she still can’t keep her eyes off of Michael. Hayes: If we have the party on the weekend, we run the risk of people being out of town. Marcie: Sure. Sounds great. Hayes: Marcie, you're not listening to a thing I'm saying. Marcie: What? Oh. I'm sorry. You know, I just -- I'm just really relieved that Michael’s being reinstated and he's in the clear and he can go back to work, so my mind's a little -- but I need to concentrate on my work, right? Ok, I promise I'm going to concentrate on the book party. What else do we need to discuss? I'm listening. Hayes: Ok, ok. Oh, oh, good news. I have two local talk shows booked for you the week after the publishing party. Marcie: Oh, sounds great. Hayes: So on the 10th, you're going to fly to Chicago -- Marcie: Uh-huh. Hayes: And then the next morning to Philly. Meanwhile, back at the bar, Michael can’t keep his eyes off of Marcie. John: So then I shot him in the foot five times. Michael: Yeah, right. John: You see, now I'm offended. That was a perfectly good little story, but instead of listening to me, all you can do is focus over there on the redhead. Michael: I hate that agent. I hate the way he treats her. I hate the way he talks to her. John: I hate his hair. Michael: Yeah, suave. John: Hmm. Why don't you go over and separate him from her? Michael: Yeah, right, John. John: Why not? You're still in love with her. Michael: What is it with you, John? John: What did I say? Michael: Well, first, you made me look like a total jerk by telling Marcie about my party, and now you're telling me how I feel. John: Somebody's got to tell you, Michael. Michael: Yeah. I guess it is a lot easier to deal with other people's love lives than it is to deal with your own, huh, Johnny? John: Ok, on that note, I'm out of here. Michael: I'll see you later. John: I'll see you at the party. Michael: Don't be cheap. John: I'll try not to. Be well. Hayes continues to try to keep Marcie’s attention. Hayes: So, after your meeting with Willie West -- Marcie: Mm-hmm. Hayes: Do you know who he is, by the way? Marcie: No. Hayes: He's a phenomenal stylist in New York. Check out his website. He's done some really amazing transformations. Marcie -- Marcie: What? Hayes: This is getting ridiculous. Marcie: What? What is? I don't -- Hayes: You obviously can't take your eyes off your ex-boyfriend -- Marcie: No, I -- Hayes: No, it's -- why don't we just go someplace that he's not? Marcie: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry, Hayes. I can concentrate. I can do this, I promise. Hayes: You know, does his little triumph mean more to you than your career? Marcie: No. His career doesn't mean more, but -- Hayes: But what? Marcie: He does. I'm sorry, ok? I admit it. I -- my feelings for Michael mean more than the book. It means more than anything -- the money, the fame, the success -- more than anything. Hayes: Marcie, forget about murder mysteries. You should writing romance paperbacks. Marcie: Maybe you're right. You know, maybe I should be focusing more on romance and forget the stupid idea of just being friends with Mike. I mean, what was I thinking? You know, I think -- I think I'm going to go spend the evening with him. I think I'm going to go celebrate with him. Hayes: Marcie, you have a very important appointment with a stylist I flew in from New York. Marcie: Well, then cancel it. Hayes: No, I can't -- can't cancel. He's here. Marcie: Well, then give him my regards and tell him that I'm going to be celebrating with the man I love. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go freshen up. Marcie walks away and a man approaches Michael. Man: Well, party time. Guess we should be heading over there, huh? Michael: Yeah. You know what, Pete? I got to take care of something. I'll meet you out by the car? Pete: I'll go get the car. Michael: All right, buddy. Hayes: Michael? Can I speak to you for a second? Michael: About what? Hayes: Marcie. You know, I think you might want to listen to what I have to say. Michael: I don't think I need to hear anything you have to say about Marcie. Hayes: Not even if it might help her? Michael: Help her? The only thing you've done for Marcie since you met her is tear her down, telling her how she's not thin enough, she's not smart enough, she's not -- Hayes: Michael, if you'd just calm down -- Michael: No, I'm not going to calm down, ok? I sat back long enough while you made Marcie feel less of herself, pretending the whole time that it was for her own good. Well, you know what? That's a bunch of crap. Hayes: Really? You have so little respect for her talent? You don't care whether or not her book is a success? Michael: You know, I'm having a hard time understanding what her weight has to do with the success of her book! Hayes: You know, as an agent, it is my job to make sure that she is the best that she can be. Michael: Well, I got to tell you, pal, you're doing one hell of a job. Hayes: You know, Michael, this meeting that she has tonight is crucial. She is being prepped to meet with the CEO of the largest chain of bookstores in the United States. If they agree to sell her book, not only will be she a household name, but she'll be set for life. If that doesn't matter to you, Michael, then maybe you don't care about her as much as you say you do. Hayes walks away just as Marcie returns and approaches Michael. Marcie: Michael? Michael: Hey, Marcie. Marcie: Hi. I think I'm going to blow off my meeting tonight, and I would love to come and celebrate with you if it's still ok. Michael: You know what? Actually, it's not, you know? I'm sorry, I don't think it's a good idea. Marcie: What? Marcie appears shocked by his statement. Marcie: It's a bad idea for me to come to the party? Michael: Yeah, yeah, it's a bad idea for you to blow off an important meeting. Marcie: Well, it's not important, Michael. It's really not an important -- Michael: It's about your career, Marcie. You helped me get mine back, and now it's time for you to start focusing on your own. Marcie: No, look, if I cancel this meeting, I can reschedule it. Really, it's not that big of a deal! Michael: Marcie, if we're going to get back together, it's not going to happen in one night. Marcie: Right. Michael: If it's meant to be, it'll survive until after you publish your book, and then you won't have to give up anything to be with me. Marcie: Yeah, yeah, I get it. Pete returns. Pete: Michael? Everyone's waiting for the guest of honor, man. Marcie: Excuse me. Marcie walks back to the table where Hayes is waiting. Pete: What's up? Michael: Oh, man. I just did something that I really didn't want to do. Hayes: So you're -- you're not going to the party? Marcie: No. No, I'm not. At the table, Hayes looks smugly at Marcie. Hayes: I guess Michael wants to hang out with his hospital buddies tonight, huh? Marcie: Looks that way.
Friday, February 4, 2005 At Rodi’s Roxy is flirting shamelessly with a hunk. She gets change back from the bartender. Roxy: Thanks, man. Hunk: Thanks for the beer. Next one's on me. Roxy: Not a chance, sweet cakes. I am buying tonight. My hotel is kicking butt. I'm turning into a regular Sherman Hemsley. Hunk: Don't you mean Leona Helmsley? Roxy: Oh, is she moving uptown, too? Hey, doesn't matter. I welcome the competition. The Hunk looks surprised then walks off. Roxy stuffs the bills in her bra. Michael and Pete walk into Rodi’s. Michael spots Roxy and walks in her direction. Michael: Hold on, I’ll be right back. Roxy: Yo, Dr. Death! Michael frowns at her. Roxy: Ok, sometimes I'm not so funny. Michael: Oh, no, it's fine. I'm in the clear, Roxy. They're going to reinstate me tomorrow. I go back to work. Everything's great. Roxy: I know it. You know, you can't always believe what you read in the newspaper. You know, a sweet guy like you -- you couldn't kill Rico Suave. So, is Marcie coming? Because I know she was real worried about you. Michael: No, she -- she couldn't make it.
Back at The Palace, Hayes continues to try to convince Marcie of the importance of the party and the stylist he’s hired. Hayes: I'm telling you, Marcie, this guy, Willie West, is the hottest stylist in New York. When you're a client of his, you've made the a-list. Marcie is looking off into the distance, however, and not paying attention to Hayes. Hayes: Hello. Marcie? Marcie: What? Hayes: Your career's calling. Marcie: I was listening -- sort of. Hayes: Your ex-boyfriend again, huh? Marcie: You know, I just keep thinking about Michael. He's over at Rodi's. I should really be there. Hayes: And you tried to be, but the guy told you he didn't need you. Marcie: That's not exactly what he said. Hayes: Marcie -- it's over with Michael. Just let it go, focus on your book. That's your future, not Michael McBain.
Back at Rodi’s, Michael and Roxy are sitting at a table. approaches them. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Hey, doc? Come on, party's starting without you. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie) joins a bunch of people at a table in the far corner of the room. Roxy: Ahem. Michael: You know, just seeing Marcie earlier -- all I wanted to do was run over there and kiss her. Roxy: So why didn't you? You know, chicks really dig that caveman stuff. Michael: Oh, because things have been so messed up lately, and because I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Roxy: Hey, you can never go wrong with a kiss. Michael: You know, I still love her. You know, I want to be with her. That hasn't changed, and I’m pretty sure that that hasn't changed for her, either. Roxy: Oh, really? So then why isn't she here? Michael: Well, she wanted to come, but -- Roxy: But? But? But what? Michael: Her agent. He told me that she had some big meeting for her book, so i told her that was more important. Roxy: Her agent? That's nuts, man. Do you realize that? Michael: Yeah, yeah, Rox, I know it's crazy, ok, but I want her book to be a success. You know what? I got some people over here. I have to entertain them. Roxy: Hey, hey, hey, are you paying attention? A book doesn't keep your little tootsies toasty at night. But Marcie’s agent -- he's a creep. Michael: Well, you'll get no argument from me there. Roxy: Listen, he doesn't care about her. She's just another book jacket to him. She cares about you, man. So what are you going to do about it? Naughty-Intern (Stephanie) returns and stands next to Michael. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Come on, Dr. Mike. This is your party, remember?
At The Palace, Marcie has made a decision. Marcie: I'm going to get going because I really don't think this guy is going to show up anyway. Marcie gets up and walks toward the door. Hayes follows after her. Hayes: No, Marcie, just one -- one more minute. Marcie: No, I don't understand why we're doing this. You already got me a stylist -- that put me in the hospital. A man walks into the restaurant and spots Marcie and Hayes. Hayes: I admit that guy was a hack. But Willie West is different. Marcie: Why is he different? Man: Because Willie West is going to make you into a star, darling. Willie West stretches out his hand to Marcie. Marcie: Nice to meet you, Mr. West. Willie West twirls Marcie around. Willie: Oh -- wow. You called me just in time. Marcie: Excuse me? Willie: The fruit only stays ripe on the vine for a short while, my dear. Not to worry. Botticelli is back, baby. Marcie: What? Willie: Star quality is not simply a hairstyle or a piece of fabric. It's an attitude, it's a state of being. Oh -- it's that.
Willie West, Hayes and Marcie are sitting at the table. Willie West is showing Marcie sketches of her in somewhat dramatic costumes (e.g., Marcie dressed up as a geisha). Willie: You see, baby doll, there's no reason to apologize for being zaftig. By the time this book comes out, you'll be the new "it" girl. Jennifer and Paris will never know what hit them. It's just a question of drawing attention away from the trouble spots. Marcie: (takes sketch book from Willie West and closes it) You know, I really think that I’ve had enough of this. I think I'm going to leave -- Willie: (pats chest and widens his eyes) Tell me that you didn't just say that. (looks at Hayes) Did she just say that or -- Hayes: Wait -- Marcie, this is a great opportunity for you. Marcie stands up. Marcie: Hayes, I wrote a book, ok, and I wrote a really good book, and I enjoyed writing it. Now you're turning it into this. It's a fake image of a fake person! Willie: Exactly! Bravo! Marcie: No, it's not me, ok? If it's a good book, it will sell. If it doesn't sell, then I’ll write an even better one, and I'll write another one until it gets even better than that. All right? It's just -- ugh! Hayes: Ok, ok, ok, ok, Marcie, Marcie, it's ok, it's ok. We'll just -- we'll calm down, we'll go back, we'll sit down, we'll -- Marcie: No! No, I don't want to do that! If it's a good book, it will sell, not because Mr. Willie over here turns me into the new "it" girl. It will sell because -- not because of what I wear and not because of what I look like. Hayes: Where are you going? Marcie: I'm going to spend the rest of the evening with Michael, where I should have been the entire night.
At Rodi’s, Naughty Nurse continues to make moves on Michael. Naugnty-Nurse: You have to learn how to celebrate, Michael. You should be up to body shots by now. Michael: Yeah, I guess -- I’m just really missing Marcie, you know? She should be here. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Why'd you two break up anyway? Michael: You know, that's just it. You know, when we were breaking up, I had a million reasons why. But now that I think back, I can't remember one. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Yeah. I know how you feel. I was dating this guy for about six months, and he was really great, but, you know, we just weren't a match. I don't know, I guess I miss being in a relationship more than I actually miss being with him. Michael: So you just broke up with him? Just like that, over nothing? Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Well, um -- I've kind of had my eye on this guy at the hospital now for some time. Michael: Really? Oh, well, is he -- is he here tonight? Because, you know, I could maybe help you guys hook up. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): You are so cute when you play dumb like that. Michael: When I play dumb like -- when I -- when I play dumb? Oh, jeez. You -- you're -- you want to hook up with me.
Back at The Palace, Willie West and Hayes are leaning on the bar. Willie: I have not been this devastated since Bradifer broke up. Nobody walks on Willie West. Hayes: Yeah, please, let me talk to Marcie. Willie: You know what? Don't call me again unless you have a client worthy of my genius. In fact, don't call me again. Willie West walks out of the restaurant. Hayes: Michael McBain strikes again.
Back at Rodi’s Michael tries to wrap his mind around what Naughty-Intern (Stephanie) just said to him. Michael: I had no idea that you were interested in me. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Really? God, I thought I was making myself so obvious. Especially since I heard you and Marcie had split up. But now that you're back on the market again, I was hoping that we might, you know -- Michael: Yeah -- Steph, I'm really, really sorry. I mean, I'm flattered. I swear, I am. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Uh-oh. I have a feeling I’m not going to like what you're about to tell me. Michael: Marcie and i are broken up, but I still want to be with her. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Oh, just my luck. All the good guys are taken. Michael: I'm sorry. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): I understand. It's ok. But that doesn't mean we can't have a dance to celebrate, right? Michael: Uh -- you know, I don't -- I don't really dance. You know, not since my accident. Multiple fractures -- Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Oh, come on. Just one little dance. You know, just think, that way I won't feel like such an idiot tomorrow morning when I wake up and remember how stupid I look right now. Michael: Oh, no, you don't look stupid, not at all. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): Come on. Michael: And you know what? One dance -- fine. I don't see what the harm in that could be. Singer: Close my eyes and see what I want to see Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): (Glances over at Michael & Naughty-Intern (Stephanie) dancing) Hey, doc, you better be careful or you're going to be dancing into a lot of trouble. Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): You are such a liar. Michael: What? Naughty-Intern (Stephanie): You're a great dancer. I wonder what else you lied to me about. Michael: Excuse me? Singer: In my dreams Naughty-Intern (Stephanie) leans in and she and Michael kiss. At just this moment, Marcie walks into Rodi’s. She stops in her tracks when she sees them. Tears spring into her eyes. Marcie: (stutters) Um -- Mike – Michael sees Marcie just as she turns and runs out of Rodi’s. Michael: Uh -- Marcie? (runs after her) Marcie, wait! Marcie? (bumps into some guys near the door) Excuse me, guys. Marcie! Marcie, it's not what you think! Marcie! Meanwhile, in the psycho on wheels portion of the episode, Margaret is careening down the street in front of Rodi’s and Blair has finally freed herself from the trunk and is climbing into the backseat. Margaret looks at her in the rearview mirror. Marcie rushes blindly into the street. Margaret turns around and glares at Blair. Margaret: What do you think you're doing? Blair: Just watch the road! You'll kill us both! Margaret strikes out at Blair. Blair: Stop it! Blair spots Marcie who seems frozen in the oncoming headlights. Blair: (yells) You’re going to kill her! Look! Marcie: No! Margaret turns around just in time to see Marcie and then runs over her.
