Marcie: You know, I mean, if it makes you feel any better, I mean, I know what you're going through. Michael and I -- we don't seem to be making much progress lately either. Riley: Yeah, well, at least you don't have Rex around screwing things up for you. Marcie: Yes, that is true. He's not any good for her, is he? Riley: Yeah, tell her that. Marcie: I have. Ok, and I will again and again and again if I have to. But, right now, Riley, I -- I'm a little bit more concerned about you. This isn't what you need right now. You know that, right? This is poison, the same as it was for al. Riley: Well, you know what? Without Jen, it doesn't really matter anymore. Marcie: That's not true, Riley. You have your friends, you have your family, you have your music. You have so much. You just -- look, you have to find a way, right, to start a new life for yourself without Jen. I'm still trying to make a life for myself without Al. So how can I possibly have one with Michael? *** Michael: So, where do two lovesick souls who can't stand each other go from here? The rain cannot cause a cold. Natalie: I'm going in anyway. Michael: What, are you afraid of a little rain? Natalie: No -- Nichael: Yeah? Natalie: Because I'm not afraid of anything. Natalie: Ugh. You realize we're getting soaked here? Michael: Who cares? Natalie: Obviously not you. Michael: Who are you trying to impress, tough guy? Natalie: Not you. I've already embarrassed myself in front of your brother. Michael: Who cares about that? God, doesn't the rain feel great? Natalie: Feels wet. Michael: Yes, it does! It feels wet! Natalie: Yeah. Michael: You know what my mom used to say about the rain? She used to say that this was God's way of giving Atlantic City a bath. Natalie: Yeah, well, Roxy used to say that it was god's way of keeping all the tourists out of the good blackjack tables. Michael: Nice. [Thunder] Natalie: Ok, thunder -- can't deal with. Michael: Oh, good. Listen, you know, thunder happens because lightning, right -- it's hot. It cuts a hole through the air, and then when the air fills that gap back, it causes a shock wave. Nothing to be afraid of. Natalie: God, you are such a geek. Michael: I am a man of science, ok, and you know what? You -- you are looking at this -- this storm thing all wrong. Natalie: Oh, really? How's that? Michael: Hey, look. Right over there. Natalie: What? Michael: It's that fool you made of yourself a little while ago. The rain is washing it right away. Natalie: Oh, really? Yeah? Michael: Yeah. Natalie: Well, look over there. That's your sanity running right down the drainpipe. Michael: Yeah, well, good riddance! Natalie: Oh, great -- oh, what are you doing? Michael! Natalie: You're a geek! *** Riley: I just thought that if I could talk to her, I could make her understand. Marcie: Understand what, Riley? Riley: Understand that I don't care if she killed Paul Cramer. Marcie: You told Jen that you think she's guilty. Riley: I don't care if she's guilty. Marcie: Will you think about what you're saying here? Think about it for a second and tell me if you really think that she could kill anybody. Riley: Look at the evidence. What -- how does that make Jen look? Marcie: You know, maybe -- maybe you should just consider law school because you're starting to sound like your father. Riley: Don't say that. Marcie: Well, you know, because it must have been him who convinced you that Jen's guilty ***
Marcie: Riley, if I listened to everything my father told me, I never would've moved here to come to school. I would've turned my back on my brother Eric years ago, not to mention my writing. Dads don't always know what's best. Riley: I know that and especially mine, all right, but what about all this evidence? Marcie: Forget the evidence, Riley. I want you to think about who she is. I want you to think about the Jen that you know. Riley: I am trying. Marcie: Well, then try harder. I know that this is hard for you, ok, but I don't think it's helping that you're locking yourself in your apartment. Maybe you just need to stop blocking everyone out, shutting everyone down and out of your life. Riley: You know what? You just gave me a great idea. Thank you. Marcie: I did? Wait, wait, wait up. Marcie: The reason I came by is because, well, we're having a meeting in the community center tonight. It's actually a memorial for Julie and Hudson, so -- Michael: Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry. Look, I can't go. I -- I'm on call at the hospital. That's why I was changing downstairs. Marcie: Mm-hmm. Sure. Mm-hmm. Michael: Ok. Natalie: Thank you for the scrubs again. Michael: Yeah. Listen, anytime, all right? You -- I will talk to you later. Marcie: Uh-huh. Natalie: So, a memorial service? That's -- that's really nice. Marcie: You know, Natalie, I realize that I don't know you well, but I've seen what your friendship with John has done to his relationship with Evangeline, and I'll be damned if I let you come between Michael and me. Natalie: What did I do to John and Evangeline? Marcie: Oh, come on, Natalie. You're always trying to get closer to John, inch by inch. Natalie: I am so out of here. Marcie: I'm glad to see that you're feeling better. Natalie: Excuse me? Marcie: Didn't you cancel on my brother Ron tonight because you weren't feeling -- no, you were tired. Natalie: I was tired. Marcie: Oh, but somehow, miraculously, you managed to get a second wind to run right into Michael, though. Natalie: Where is all this coming from? Marcie: Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about, and don't act like you don't what you're doing. Maybe John and Evangeline -- maybe they're none of my business, but now you're messing with my brother. Natalie: Ok, I think you need to back off. Marcie: And on top of that -- on top of that, Natalie, now you're going after Michael. Ok, I may not be going out with Michael anymore, we may be broken up, but there's a damn good chance that we actually might make it back to each other. Natalie: Ok, good, go for it. Marcie: Oh, I will. So back off, leave him alone, and you better stay out of my way! ***
Natalie: Marcie, I am not in your way. I don't know why you're upset. You have no reason to be. You were right about one thing. Marcie: See, I knew it. Natalie: I'm talking about John. Michael warned me not to, but I -- I told John that I wanted more than friendship. Marcie: What? You did what? Natalie: Yeah. Marcie: I have to admit that took guts. Natalie: Yeah, well, he turned me down flat. Marcie: Oh. Natalie: And Michael was kind enough not to say, "I told you so." Marcie: Well, Michael's really not the kind of guy to kick you when you're down. Natalie: No and he also said he understood why I did it. And he said that he knows how it feels when you love someone so much that you can't think about anything else. You know why? Marcie: No. Natalie: Because that's how he feels about you. Marcie: Oh, my God! Oh, can you give me some tissues over there? Officer: What's going on? Marcie: No, nothing, officers. I'm sorry. I just spilled some soda, that's all. Oh. Maybe you should pour, Jen, from now on. Jen: Marcie, there is nothing to worry about, ok? Marcie: How can you say that? I mean, what if “The Killing Club" killer finds out about the meeting that we're having? Jen: Look, the police are going to make sure everything is cool. Marcie: Ok. Jen: Is Michael coming? Marcie: Well, he was going to, but he's on call, which is just as well. Jen: Why do you say that? Marcie: Because I made a complete and total fool out of myself. I -- I saw him in this weird, close thing with Natalie and I jumped to conclusions. Jen: Michael and Natalie? Marcie: No, no, he was just talking to her. It was completely -- you know, he was just helping her out. He was just being a friend. Anyway, forget about it, ok, because I don't want to talk about it. I didn't come here to talk about myself. I came here to do right by Julie and Hudson, right? So, what's up with you and Riley? Did you hear from him? I know he's really upset about the argument that you guys had. Jen: I think he's hanging out with his dad. Marcie: Hmm. Jen: Probably sitting around talking about how I killed Paul in cold blood. Marcie: Men. *** Riley: Whoa, guys, it's just me. Jen: Oh, Riley. Riley: I'm sorry. I came in the back door. I was donating my guitar to the music room. Marcie: You nearly scared us half to death. Riley: Sorry, guys. Officer: We're clear here. False alarm. Riley: You ok? Marcie: Yeah, now we are. Right? We're really glad you came. Nick: What's going on? Mark: The cops said something about an intruder? Marcie: It was just Riley. He came in the back way. For a minute there, we thought it was the killer. Riley: Would the killer really show up with all of us together like this? Marcie: You never know. How can we predict what a crazy maniac is going to do? I mean, it's the not knowing that makes it so scary. Mark: Hey, it's ok. Look, the cops are here. Nothing is going to happen tonight. ***
Marcie: I think most of you guys know -- or maybe you don't know -- but, well, my book actually has been making me a lot of money. The only problem with that is, well, every time a new check comes, it just makes me feel worse about Julie and Hudson. I mean, they did die because of my book. Nick: Come on, don't say that, Marcie. Marcie: Why? It's true, and it doesn't feel right for me to be profiting from their death. Mark: Marcie, you deserve that money. You worked hard on that book. You deserve every penny. Marcie: Well, thank you for saying that, Mark, but the -- the fact is, is that I just -- I don't feel right about making the money. So I've decided to donate it all to the love center. Well, Julie and Hudson -- I mean, they helped us build this place. You know, I just -- I thought it would be really cool. And the money is going to cover renaming the study room in their honor. And then the rest of the money is going to go towards the angel square kids. You know, it's going to help them cover their tutoring and study groups and their college applications, things like that. I don't know, I just thought that Julie and Hudson would be really happy to know that kids that didn't have a chance to go to college -- well, now they have a shot, right? And I already made the plaque and everything. It looks so cool. Ooh! [Laughter] Marcie: From all the soda we spilled on the floor. I'm fine. Look, it's over here. Nick: Oh, wow. Marcie: "The Tanaka-Prescott study room." ***
Marcie: Well, it sounds like a really great job. Mark: Yeah. Jen: So you'll be working in the public sector? Mark: Which is a pretentious way of saying I'll be a civil servant working for peanuts. Marcie: Yeah, but as long as you love it, that's all that matters, right? Mark: Yeah. That, and being in a good relationship -- Jen: Ooh. Mark: Which I am. Marcie: So are you actually going to introduce us to this guy at some point? Mark: Hopefully. Marcie: Well, I want you to call us, ok, at some point, because we have to go out and get our nails done, maybe go shopping. Mark: Totally. Hey, good luck with Riley -- and everything else going on. Jen: Thanks. Mark: Yeah. See you. Marcie: Bye. Nick: So, this is the first time I've been able to set foot in this place since Julie died. Riley: I really am sorry, Nick. Nick: So, what's going on with you and Jen? Riley: Oh, well, things aren't so good there either. I seem to have blown that one. Nick: How? What happened? Riley: Well, you know the Paul Cramer murder investigation? I -- well, there was a lot of evidence against Jen. Nick: So? You know she didn't do it, right? Riley: I want to believe that. I am just having a little trouble. Nick: You know her better than that. I mean, don't you two live together? Riley: No. Nick: She was crazy about you, dude. I mean, everybody saw that. I mean, here you had this unbelievably hot girl that's in love with you. How can you doubt that? Or her? ***

Michael: Heard your memorial for Julie and Hudson was beautiful. Marcie: Yeah, it was. Michael: I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Marcie: I'm sorry I had to do it. Michael: Marcie, you know that you're the only person who blames this thing on you? Marcie: Yeah, I do. Michael: Do you Marcie: Yes. Yeah. Michael: Ok. Let's go get something to eat. Marcie: Yeah? John: Carlotta, I need the girl's information to notify her family. Carlotta: Her application's actually still under the counter. I just hired her. Marcie: I thought this was -- I thought that this was all over. You know, everybody on the love crew, they all have guards. I thought that whoever was doing these killings that he was just going to stop. John: Well, apparently, he or she decided to expand their targets. Michael: Well, why did you think it was Natalie at first? John: Same red hair, same clothes. Natalie: Do -- do you think that someone's after me, or are you just worried about me? Evangeline: Not in the way that you think. Natalie: Uh-huh, and when he walked into that kitchen and he saw that girl, how come his mind went straight to me? Evangeline: Your blood-curdling scream scared the hell out of him. I was scared, too. Natalie: What, scared that I didn't really die? Evangeline: All right, all right, Natalie, you want to roll around in the mud with me? This is what I do for a living. Natalie: Well, you know what? I've scrambled around in the mud a few times myself, so come on, bring it on. Evangeline: What do you think's going to happen, Natalie? Michael: I keep trying to tell her that. Antonio: Believe it. Ok, look, I've worked on cases like this before, all right? This person was going to kill with or without your book. Marcie: I still wish I hadn't written it. Roy: Mrs. Vega? Carlotta: Huh? Roy: Would you mind answering some questions? Carlotta: I'll tell you what I can. Antonio: Ok, I'm not going anywhere, ok? I'll be right over there. Carlotta: Thank you. Antonio: All right. How you doing? You ok? Evangeline: You know, John just called in here for help. Antonio: Well, you know what they say in the department -- if you can call it in, he's ok. Evangeline: He told me to stay here, but I really want to go to him, Antonio. Antonio: No, you let the police handle it. That's what they do. Evangeline: That's what I just tried to tell Natalie. Antonio: She went? Evangeline: He's going to be ok, right? He's going to be fine. Antonio: Of course, yes. Evangeline: How are you doing? Antonio: You know, I'm hanging in. Never a dull moment in the city. Evangeline: Tell me about it. Any new information on that fire at R.J.'s? Jessica? What happened? Antonio: No, no. Nothing. Evangeline: You know this is going to be really bad for the custody hearing tomorrow? Michael: You're coming home with me tonight. Marcie: No, I'm -- I'm going to stay at Ron's. I mean, the bodyguard is there. I have everything. I'll be fine.

Michael: Oh, I didn't expect to see you back at work so soon. Natalie: Yeah, well, it feels pretty safe here. Plus, that I want to be available in case john has any questions for me. Michael: Right. Well, I'm glad to see that you're ok. Natalie: Yeah. Grateful to be alive. And what about you? Not on duty this morning? Michael: No, I decided to take a break. Marcie told me that John was going to question her, so I thought I'd come down and be supportive. Natalie: Oh. You're pretty good at that. Oh, reminds me -- I washed and dried your scrubs, and I'll return them to you tonight. Michael: No rush. Natalie: And not that you asked, but things are looking up. With your brother. Michael: John should be the last thing on your mind right now. Natalie: What happened to that waitress is horrible. But when John thought it was me who was murdered, he totally lost it. And when I thought he was hurt -- I mean, Michael, it was there. You know, whether you want it to be or whether John does, neither one of us can deny how we feel for each other, and last night proved it to me. Rex: Hey, sis, I need to see uncle Bo. Is he around? Natalie: No, no. Rex: It's important. Natalie: Well, the way he flew out of here, it seems as if he had something important to do himself. ***

Rex: Who is innocent and being framed for a murder she didn't commit. Natalie: Ok. I believe that you believe that. So, what happens if you prove it? I don't know what happened to the promise and the life and the joy. I don't pretend to have the wisdom to understand any of this, but I do know that she is now in the hands of a very loving and merciful God. And I think that if there's any message we can take away from this most horrible of tragedies, it's that we must never, ever let despair or fear win. We must cling to the love and the mercy and the grace that surrounds each and every one of us every single day. John: Something tells me the one the medical examiner did wasn't, either, so go ahead and throw out whatever books you want. Michael: You okay, bro? John: Not my first autopsy. Michael: Well, the original M.E. seems to have followed procedure. I don't see anything out of the ordinary thus far. John: See, the thing is, Mikey, if Jen killed herself by running that tube to her car's tailpipe, her fingerprints would be all over it. Michael: And they weren’t. Wait a second here. John: What? Michael: Yeah. Absolutely. John: Hey, Mike, you going to tell me, or do I have to guess? Michael: I think I just found what we're looking for. ***

If she had died from carbon monoxide poisoning, the conjunctivae, the whites of her eyes, would be consistently pink. John: But they're not. Michael: Which means that she died from suffocation. Look, okay, now, note the tattooing of her skin. Now, had she died from C.O. poisoning, she would have a nice, fleshy, pink color. She doesn’t. She's purple. John: Which means? Michael: Which means that either the original autopsy was wrong or it was compromised. Either way, John, Jen didn't kill herself. *** John: See, the autopsy report says Jen's blood had a high level of carbon monoxide in it. Michael: It's wrong. John: You sure? Michael: It's wrong, John. I'll run the blood test again, okay, but everything that I've seen here shows that Jen didn't kill herself. Now, it's going to take a lot more to prove that it was murder. John: I know. I know. There's this letter that she sent Riley that could be construed as a suicide note. Colson was closing in on an arrest. She broke up with her boyfriend. Everything points neatly to a suicide. Michael: Yeah. Marcie thinks that it's her fault because of the suicide in her book. John: No, I don't think this has anything to do with "The Killing Club" murders. Doesn't fit. None of it makes sense. Michael: What are we supposed to do with any of this? I mean, none of this is admissible in court. This is an illegal autopsy. John, you should've got somebody who was licensed to do this, somebody who was licensed to perform autopsies. Rex: You want to get pissed at somebody? Try your old man. He's the one who lied to you, and he's the one who killed Jen. Riley: Shut up. Marcie: Look, we are all upset here, okay, so let it go, Rex. Riley: I bet you both really enjoyed this, didn't you? Watching it play out, watching me and my dad get destroyed. Lindsay: Nobody had a good time! There's nothing good about this! Whatever's happened, Jen's gone. Rex: Come on, Lindsay, you don't need this. Riley: What? What, you running away again? I always told Jen you were sick. Why don't you come back here and face me? Marcie: Riley, don't! Riley: Look, just stay out of my way! Marcie: No, look -- what are you going to do? What, are you going to go after Rex the way you went after Mark? If you want to punch somebody, punch me! ***
Marcie: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about your dad and Mark. It's just that, you know, you were dealing with so many things, and -- you have to believe me, okay? I did not know that the police thought that your dad was -- Riley: A killer? Bo knew. John McBain, Rex. You talk about a setup -- Marcie: No, I don't think that was it. I think Rex was just trying to help Jen. He was just trying to figure out who killed her. Riley: I just can't believe it. Marcie: Look -- look, you have so many things that are going through your mind that you have to think about right now. Riley: Starting with the fact that my father turned me against the woman I love to protect himself. Marcie: You're hurt, and you're angry. Riley: Because my dad has been lying to me my whole life about being gay! He gets married, he has a kid, he treats his wife bad. I wonder why. I think he hates her. I'm pretty sure he hates me. And I don't know why. Marcie: Look, I don't -- I don't know what your father is thinking. But he doesn't hate you. Riley: Yeah, well, you know what? I hate him. I hate who or what he is! You know, I don't even know what that is! I don't even know who or what I am now. ***
Natalie: L.P.D. I'm sorry, the commissioner's not available. You're going to have to call back later. Michael: Is my brother around? Natalie: He's in his office, but it's not a good time right now. Michael: Yeah, I know. I was down at City Hall when the whole thing went down. I think Marcie’s still there with Riley. Man, talk about getting blindsided- Natalie: Yeah, you know what? I feel really bad for Riley, but I don't have time to play catch up with you. Michael: Did I ask you to? I came here to make a statement about the autopsy. Natalie: Oh, the official one, or the one you did without anybody knowing? Michael: How did you know about that? Natalie: I work here. Michael: Look, I didn't ask for the attitude, okay? You know what? I'm going to find John. Natalie: No, no, no, no -- sit, sit, sit. I will find him. Just stay out of the way. ***
Marcie: I know who Riley Colson is. He's an amazing musician. He's an artist. He's a great friend. And he's someone whose heart is this big, and it is filled with love. Riley: No, not anymore. Because you know what? I am Daniel Colson's son. And do you know what that is? I don’t. Marcie: Don't do this, Riley. Riley: He convinced me that Jen was a killer and that she killed Paul Cramer, and I bought into it. Until I got my head straight, and then, you know, it was too late. She was gone. Marcie: She still loved you. Riley: Well, she shouldn't have. Because I let her down. And if I hadn't -- Marcie: What? What, do you think you would have been able to stop your father from killing her? Riley: I don't know! I don't know anything right now. I just know that Jen's gone, and she's dead. Marcie: Well, Riley, where are you going? Riley: I don'. I -- I hate myself. I got to get out of here. Marcie: Riley! ***
Michael: Okay. I waited. I'm done. If Evangeline can get in to see my brother, then so can I. Natalie: Evangeline's with John? Michael: Well, that got your attention. Natalie: Well, she shouldn't be bothering him. Michael: Well, maybe she isn’t. Maybe he likes having people that he cares about around him, and maybe he'd be upset to find out that you're shutting them out. Okay. I'm sorry. Natalie: I'm sorry, what? I really can't hear you. You have to say it louder. Michael: I said I'm sorry. You happy? Natalie: Ecstatic ***
Michael: So, how's Riley? Marcie: I'm really worried about him, Michael. You know, I tried to talk him down, but he just -- he ran right off and I couldn't stop him, and I don't know where he's going to go or what he's going to do. Michael: I could -- I could ask John to send a unit out to look for him. Marcie: I don't want anything else happening to anybody else that I care about, Michael. I mean, if I lost one more person, I wouldn't know what to do. Michael: Come here. Come here. ***
Natalie: What are you doing here? Rex: What do you think? Natalie: Rex, please, just -- just go home. Let the police handle this this time, please. Marcie: Lindsay, maybe I should take you home. Lindsay: No, I have a right to face the man who murdered my daughter. Marcie: Oh, I know, but it's just going to make you feel worse. Lindsay: I couldn't feel any worse. He took away the one thing that meant anything in my life. Bo: Lindsay? I know what you're going through, and you know that I do, but you shouldn't be here right now. Rex: We're not going anywhere. Bo: You've got to let us do our job. Rex: Do your job? You wouldn't even have Colson if it weren't for me. Bo: You know, Balsom, that's true. And I appreciate everything you did, but it's in our hands now. And I'm warning you, Rex -- don't do anything to screw this up. Rex: That's why we're here -- to make sure you don’t. Lindsay: No, he's right. We want to make sure that Daniel's caught. And one day he'll have to face me. One day, I want to make sure that he feels the pain that I have felt. ***
Lindsay: This must have been where Daniel waited for her by the car. Rex: Oh, don't -- don't do this to yourself, Lindsay. Lindsay: I'm okay. Rex: Are you sure? Lindsay: I've been beating myself up wondering what I could've done to stop it, thinking that I'd missed all the signs. Then it turns out that Jen didn't take her own life -- someone had taken it from her. You tried to tell me. But part of me just wasn't sure. And now I know. Now I know there was nothing I could've done to protect her. But there's something that I can do now. Michael: Lindsay, we should really get you upstairs. You should -- you should rest. You know, I could prescribe you something to help you calm down. Lindsay: No, I don't want to be numb. I want to feel this. I need to feel my life. Lindsay: And I need to say goodbye to my daughter. ***

Rex: So you're planning on catching "The Killing Club" psycho? This is crazy, Natty. Natalie: You weren't just involved in a murder investigation? This guy, whoever he is, he follows a pattern. He targets specific people in specific places just like in Marcie's book, so if I could just get one step ahead of him -- Rex: Then you'd get killed just like in the book. Natalie: Don't you understand, Rex? I'm already a target. That waitress who was murdered -- that was supposed to be me. Rex: Ok, so any sane person would either lay low or get out of dodge. But you want to throw yourself in this guy's face, all for what -- oh, right -- to impress John Mc Bain. Natalie: No! Rex: You're telling me Mc Bain has nothing to do with this? Natalie: Not in the way that you think. All right, look, John takes these cases personally. He gets haunted by them, he gets obsessed with them, and he's not the type of guy who goes around telling everybody what's going on. He just keeps grinding away until he finds some answers, but see, the answers aren't coming to him, so I can help. I can help him come to peace, and that's not such a bad thing, right? Rex: So what's your plan if you do happen to draw this nut bag out? Natalie: This is a mistake. Rex: Yeah, you got that right. Natalie: No -- you're the mistake. Whatever. I'm going to catch this guy myself. Rex: Sit. Tell me the plan. Natalie: You're going to help me? Rex: I didn't say that, but I'll listen. How exactly do you intend to catch this guy? ***
John: Would you like to take a seat? Lindsay: I'm fine where I am. John: Can I get you some coffee? Lindsay: No. I would like you to take me to see Daniel Colson right now. John: I understand how you feel, Lindsay. Lindsay: Why does everybody keep saying that to me? John: You're right, I'm sorry. If I -- if I were you, I'd want to do the same thing, but I just don't think it's the right time. R.J.: That's what I told her. Lindsay, it's just too soon. Lindsay: Jen's dying was way too soon. I want to look that man in the eye and ask him why he did it. I have the right to that, John, and I'm not leaving until I do it. John: Calm down for one second, right? Will you excuse me? I'll be right back Hey. Marcie: Hi. John: Thanks for coming down. Will you wait for me in my office? Marcie: Yeah. Sure. John: Thank you, Marcie. Hayes: This place gives me the creeps. Marcie: Why? Hayes: They're all staring at us. Marcie: They're not -- they're not staring at you, ok? They're staring at me because I used to work here and now I'm famous for writing a book that's turned into a blueprint for a serial killer, ok? Lindsay: Are you telling me that no one has been in to see Daniel? John: Only one person, and if it's any consolation, I don't think that Colson will be enjoying that visit. ***
Natalie: Ok. The plan. Rex: Do you even have one besides walking outside and yelling "shoot me"? Natalie: This guy -- he follows a pattern all laid out in Marcie's book, and every victim was connected in some form to the love crew. Rex: The waitress wasn't. Natalie: The waitress looked exactly like me. She could have been my sister. In fact, it gives me chills just to think about it. Rex: Yeah, which should be one more reason for you to take a pass on this. Natalie: The guy has to know that he made a mistake big time and he's going to try again. Rex: So why hasn't he? Natalie: Because he follows the book. Each murder is done in a specific time, a specific place, and we have to find the next logical place that the killer would strike. Then we bring John in on it. Rex: Oh, ok, so we would just be, what, scouting locations? Natalie: Exactly. And then when John sees that it makes sense -- Rex: He'll let you be the bait. Natalie: It's worth a shot, right? Rex: Oh, wrong. Your plan sucks. And Mc Bain would never let you get near this psycho. Natalie: I can help stop him. Rex: I'll tell you what. I'll help you get your man. Natalie: You will? Rex: Hmm -- not the killer, but I'll help you get Mc Bain. That is still the real point, isn't it? ***
Hayes: So why do you -- why do you think Mc Bain wants to talk to us? Marcie: I don't know. How am I supposed to know? Will you just chill, ok? You're making me nervous. What's wrong with you anyway? Hayes: Oh, I don't know. I finally hit the mother lode with a book that's selling faster than we can print it and some local cop's trying to mess everything up. Marcie: What are you talking about? Hayes: Now, look, you're a great writer and all that, but -- Marcie: But what? Hayes: But a big reason this book is a bestseller is because of the publicity we're getting from all these murders. Marcie: Oh, so you'd actually like him to continue killing people? Hayes: Well, I didn't say that, but -- Marcie: Look, if I can help John catch this killer, then I'm going to do whatever it takes, and so are you. You got it? Hayes: Ok, ok, ok. We probably squeezed as much juice out of this thing as we can anyway. I don't think there's going to be any more murders. Ahem. John: And just how would you know that? ***
John: Most serial killers don't just move on. They keep going until they're caught. Marcie: What if we took them all back? What if we called all the bookstores and asked them to take "The Killing Club" off the shelves? Hayes: What, are you crazy? Take a bestseller off the shelves? Marcie: Well, maybe it will stop someone else from getting any other ideas. Hayes: Might as well take every murder mystery from the stores. Marcie: My book is the only one that caused all of these murders. Ok, everyone I know is in danger because of me and that stupid book that I wrote, and I want it to end. John: Marcie, this isn't necessarily happening because of you. Hayes: You see? You need to stop being so hard on yourself, Marcie. John: You, however, might want to think about your own responsibility in all this. *****
Natalie: You're such a -- hmm! Rex: Oh, I know, I know. Pick a four-letter word. Natalie: I am not -- I repeat -- I am not trying to impress John Mc Bain. Rex: Natty, you may not think you're doing this to get Mc Bain's attention, but it's at least part of it. Natalie: Ok. Let's say for argument's sake, yeah, I'm trying to get john to open his eyes up towards me. My plan is still a good plan. Rex: It's too risky, even with the cops involved. Natalie: What happened to my Rex? I mean, the rex I know takes risks. Stupid ones, but he goes for it. So, I want to know why is it ok for you and not for me? Rex: Because you're the only sister I have. Unless, of course, Roxy's holding out on us. Natalie: So you're not going in on this with me, are you? Right. Ok, well, I got to get back to work, because I really don't want John firing me on top of all of this. Rex: Yeah. That would put a big time crimp in your seduction plans, wouldn't it? Natalie: My "seduction plans" are nonexistent these days. ***
Hayes: So now you're blaming me for the murders? John: I'm not blaming anyone but the killer. You are, though, giving him what he wants. Hayes: And what's that, exactly? John: Attention. These guys love to be noticed, and with your publicity campaign, you've got people talking about "The Killing Club" killer all the time. Hayes: Yeah. It's my job. John: Yeah, it's my job to interview anyone who has anything to do with this damn book, from the publisher to the publicist to the guy that sweeps the floors. Marcie: Well, how can we help? John: Well, you can help by giving me a list of all the key players involved. Hayes: What, you mean you want me to do your job for you? John: No. And if you don't want to cooperate, just say so. Hayes: Not if it's going to be a witch hunt. You can count me out. Marcie: Hayes -- I'm sorry, John. I have no idea where that thing came from. He's -- John: It's ok, Marcie. Yeah, sometimes you don't have to ask questions to get the answers that you need. *** John: So what do you know about this knucklehead? Marcie: Hayes? John: Hmm. Marcie: Nothing. Except he's obnoxious. John: Yeah. What about any family or friends of his? Marcie: I don't talk to him about that kind of stuff. All Hayes cares about is selling books. Not that that means anything now. John: I'm sorry this has turned around on you, Marcie. Marcie: I -- I just feel responsible, you know? John: It's not your fault. Marcie: Everybody keeps saying that. You know, you keep saying that, Michael saying that, everybody keeps saying that, but I wrote the book. John: Well, then maybe you should think about writing something else. Marcie: No, I'm not writing a book ever again. It's not happening. John: Yeah? Well, this would be more of a limited release for a small audience. Like me. Marcie: I don't understand. John: I want you to write something, Marcie. I want you to -- I want you to write about anybody that might have had a role in "The Killing Club," you know, family, friends, teachers. Write about what you know about them -- their personalities, their quirks -- anything you can think of. Marcie: Well, I mean, I'm willing to do whatever you want me to, but do you really think it's going to help? John: One way or another, these murders are connected to you, right? Marcie: Yeah. John: So I just need you to dig deep and write it all down. You never know what you might come up with. Marcie: All right. I'll give it a try, if you want me to. John: Thanks. Marcie: See you later. John: See you later. Marcie: Hey, John? John: Yeah? Marcie: Thanks for making me feel useful. John: You're going to help us catch this guy, Marcie. ***
Natalie: Look, I'd just appreciate it if you would not tell john what we talked about earlier. Rex: It's not my style, Natty. But, I'm counting on you not to do anything stupid. Can we make a deal on that? Huh? Rex: Hey. You all right? Lindsay: I'm fine. And I'd be a lot better if someone would take me to see the animal who murdered my daughter! R.J.: Yeah, the cops are saying that Colson is off-limits, and I've been trying to get Lindsay to let me take her home. Lindsay: And I told you I'm not going anywhere till someone, anyone, helps me. Rex: Sometimes I make myself forget, you know? Natalie: What? Rex: That Jen's gone, she's never coming back. For a few minutes here and there, I can just roll those thoughts right out of my head, you know, but they keep coming back. Natalie: I know. Rex: Does it ever go away, Natty? I mean, when you lose somebody you love, how do you move on ***
Rex: Hey, Mc Bain, any new leads on "The Killing Club" case? John: No, Rex, but you'll be the first person to know when I do. Rex: Ok, just asking. John: Mm-hmm. Rex: I'm going to go, and you're going to be smart, right? Natalie: I'm always smart. Rex: I'm counting on it. Later. John: What was that all about? Natalie: Nothing. Rex and I were just talking. John: Mm-hmm. You all right? Natalie: Sure. Yeah, I'm fine. John: Ok. I got to go make some calls. Rex: Ahem -- you see what I mean? You don't need to put a target on your back to get Mc Bain's attention. You already got it.
