2) Shonda Rhimes was awarded an extension on her development deal with Touchstone Television that is reportedly worth ten million dollars. On June 5, 2006, the Hollywood Reporter offered these details:

"Grey's Anatomy" creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes will operate at Touchstone Television for at least three more years.

Rhimes has renegotiated her existing production pact with the studio, extending it through the 2008-09 season. Rhimes had just completed the first year of a two-year deal, which also included a one-year option, that she inked with Touchstone in May 2005. The new three-year deal is said to be worth about $10 million, vaunting Rhimes into the top echelon of TV writer-producers. Touchstone TV declined comment Friday.

Rhimes' rich pact reflects the importance of her red-hot medical drama to the studio as well as ABC, which is banking on the show to revive its fortunes on Thursday night next season. "Grey's" was an out-of-the-box hit for the network as a midseason entry in the 2004-05 season. This past season, "Grey's" thrived in the Sunday 10 p.m. slot behind "Desperate Housewives," giving ABC the confidence to relocate the show to the competitive Thursday 9 p.m. berth in the upcoming season.

Moreover, Rhimes has a new untitled drama pilot in the works for Touchstone and ABC about a group of female journalists. She has recruited former "Grey's" trouper Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a member of its ensemble cast (HR 5/30).

3) Grey’s Anatomy will be broadcast on ABC at 9 pm on Thursday nights when Season 3 begins in September.  It will be opposite CBS’s juggernaut CSI. Interestingly, CBS is trying to portray CSI as the underdog in the ratings fight but ABC is having none of it. Shonda Rhimes has stated that she is pleased that ABC has so much faith in GA and is looking forward to competing against CBS’s top show.

4) Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) has been added to the cast as a regular for Season 3.

5) Eric Dane (Mark Sloan) reportedly is scheduled to appear on the show throughout Season 3.

6) Chris O’Donnell (Finn) is reportedly negotiating to extend his scheduled episodes in Season 3 from three to at least six.

7) Diahann Carroll has a guest role in an early episode of Season 3 but there is no word on the role she will play.  Speculations range from Burke’s mother to a patient.

8) Oxygen and Turner Broadcasting are closing in on securing shared cable rights to Grey’s Anatomy. 9.25.06 update:

Lifetime snatches "Grey's Anatomy" reruns

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Women's cable network Lifetime snatched rerun rights for "Grey's Anatomy" following the last-minute collapse of a deal that would have brought the show to Oxygen and TNT.

Lifetime, which had been in the bidding war in the beginning, is believed to be forking over $1.2 million per episode, an expensive deal considering Lifetime is contractually required to pick up the tab for as many as 200 episodes, should "Grey's" stay on the air at ABC that long. (Walt Disney Co. owns ABC and the show's syndicator, Buena Vista Television, and 50 percent of Lifetime).

Lifetime can begin airing the series daily in fall 2009 in any daypart. In addition, the network will begin airing episodes from Season 1 once a week starting in January.

TNT and Oxygen declined comment about their aborted pact.

"Grey's Anatomy" is heading into its third year on ABC in the fall.

9) Grey’s Anatomy returns on September 21, 2006 to start Season 3.  It has been reported that the first episode starts a few hours after the last episode of Season 2. It has also been reported that Katherine Heigel is definitely still on the show, although Izzie’s fate is not clear, and that the Addison/Derek/Meredith triangle supposedly is resolved fairly early in the season (this I hope is true).

10) The DVD of Grey’s Anatomy Season 2 will go on sale on September 12, 2006. The set includes all 27 episodes and three of those episodes are extended episodes.

Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey- Grey's Anatomy) Has Fans Wondering...

We Like It Better When You Fake It
By Molly Priesmeyer
City Pages Minneapolis/ St. Paul
12/15/05

Just look at that perfectly artificially-lit babyface on the left: Ellen Pompeo (Grey's Anatomy) looks so angelic and unassuming with that faraway Christ-baby gaze and those enviable cheekbones you could rest multiple copies of the Oxford English Dictionary on. And fans of Grey's (and Old School) like her that way: delicate and dainty and incapable of plucking the head off a dead dandelion. (It aches, you know.) Last week, though, they got a taste of Pompeo's offscreen persona when she was on Punk'd, and now they're saying the bitch is crazy. Read more…

514 Barrington Avenue: Tessarae's Grey's Anatomy Fan Site  launched!

According to Entertainment Weekly, Grey's Anatomy ranked as the third most watched show during the week of November 21-27!  Grey's Anatomy pulled in 19.6 million views, just beating out Without A Trace and Survivor: Guatemala, which each pulled in 19.5 viewers.  The number of viewers watching Grey's Anatomy actually increased over those watching it's lead in, Lost, which pulled in 19.3 viewers and ranked eighth. The previous week Grey Anatomy had ranked fifth in the ratings.  Desperate Housewives took first place with 25.9 viewers and CSI took second place with 25.7 views.

According to the New York Daily News, Sara Ramirez (Spamalot) will join Grey's Anatomy for a seven episode story arc that is likely to begin in January 2006.  This is part of a decision by ABC to add Hispanic characters to most of its most popular primetime shows.

According to TV Guide, Kate Walsh, who plays Addison Shepherd, has joined Grey's Anatomy as a regular cast member! I am thrilled that Addison is staying but according to Michael Logan (see the scanned article below) that is not the universal sentiment.
