MARCAL SCENES PAGE 13
Scene 18 The Art of Love
June 25 Setup: A sequence of images open the show that include a paintbrush that has been dipped in red paint being pulled carefully along a white canvass, hands strumming a guitar then writing notes on a piece of sheet music, a camcorder image, a pair of lady’s feet in black pumps, and the hands of someone carefully arranging strawberries on a white plate. A voice states: "The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere -- in the air around him or in the darkness or in light or in the sound of the wind. It can be found anywhere, the artist's world. It may be far from where lives or maybe a few feet away -- a very few feet away. Because the artist's world is limitless and it is always on his doorstep." The scene shifts to an open book that is then closed. The camera then pulls back to reveal Al, who is leaning toward the person holding the book. He is in his dorm room. Al: Amazing. Marcie is revealed. She is sitting on Al’s bed. Marcie: (smiles) I know. I'm really getting into this art history class this summer. Al: No, not the book. (Very sexy voice. He leans closer to Marcie) You. (He kisses her) Al pulls back and looks at Marcie. Al: Marcie, I want to make love to you. (Editorial comment: His voice is to die for here) Marcie: (looks frantic; she turns her head away) Oh, my god.
Outside the door of the art studio, Natalie is reading a newspaper. She rushes in. Cris is painting on a large canvass. There is music blaring in the background. Natalie: Oh, my god. Natalie: Cristian! Cristian, you've got to see this! Cristian! Cristian: What, what? What is it? Natalie turns volume down of the CD player. Natalie: It's your review. Look what it says -- "bold, daring. We want so see this new artist more." It's great! Cristian: Wow. Can't believe this. Natalie: Well, believe it. Your dream's coming true. Cristian: Our dream. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Natalie: You always had the gift. Cristian: Not like this. Because of you, I'm trying something new, I'm feeling something new. I want to go somewhere where I've never been before.
At the garage club, Flash bursts through the door. Riley is sitting on the edge of the stage playing his guitar. Sheyne is off to the side playing a guitar as well. Flash: I want to go somewhere I've never gone before. Riley: Where's that Flash: I don't know, but after we cut this C.D., No more Llanview. Flash slams the door and walks toward the back of the club and out of sight. Sheyne: What's up with her, anyway? Riley: Rev dumped her. Sheyne: Good news for you. Riley: What? Man: She's free. Riley: I just don't like seeing her like this. Man: Give it up, dude. Everybody knows. Riley: Everybody? Sheyne: But her. So go for it. Riley: I don't want to screw things up. Sheyne: Your business. You don't go for what you want; no way you'll ever get it.
At Angel Square, Jen and Rex walk in front of the angel statue. Jen: If you don't go after what you want, you'll never get it. Rex: Well, yeah, but, I mean, following Dr. McIver around, taping him when he doesn't know it -- that's like – Jen sits at the stone picnic table. Rex perches on the table as she fiddles with her camcorder. Jen: It's for my film class, okay? And it for my dad, who would still be here if it weren't for Troy McIver. And I've got some pretty interesting stuff so far. Joey lumbers into the scene with a bucket in hand, no shirt on and his hair tousled. He begins to scrub the statue. Jen focuses her camera on him. Rex: Ok. So we'll agree to disagree. How's that sound? Jen: (looking into the display window of the camcorder) Perfect.
In her bedroom at Carlotta's, Adriana whirls and looks at herself in a handheld mirror. Adriana: Perfect. She sits at her desk and writes a note to Carlotta: “Aunt Carlotta, I am going on a walk. “
At Rodi’s, Bo and Nora are sitting at a table. Matthew is standing in front of Nora, swinging hands with her. Matthew: Now for the next step. Bo: He's a natural, just like his ma. Matthew: Is daddy a good dancer, too? Nora: (glances at Bo) Yes, honey, your father was a wonderful dancer. Matthew drags Nora to the dance floor. Matthew: Ok, it's one, two, cha-cha-cha. Are you ready?
At Antonio’s apartment, Jessica pushes open the partially opened door and walks in. Antonio is carefully arranging strawberries on a plate. Jessica: Oh, are you ready? If you're not, I'll come back. Antonio: No, no. Come in. Jessica: You didn't have to go through all this trouble. Antonio: No, I didn’t. I mean, I wanted to. Would you like some iced tea? Jessica: Yeah, I'd love some. Thanks. Jessica flashes back to being with Mitch at Lion’s Head. Mitch: Down the hatch. Jessica is shaken. She looks at Antonio. Jessica: I'm not ready for this.
At Al’s dorm room, Marcie is trying to explain her reaction to Al. Marcie: I'm not ready for this. I'm sorry. She gets up and walks to the other side of the room. Al follows her. Al: No, Marcie, I'm sorry. Look, I -- I didn't mean to pressure you. I just can't really help myself. I -- I want you, Marcie. Marcie: (surprised) Really? Al: Really. But if you're not ready, you know, you're not ready, and I'm not -- Marcie: (looks at him over her shoulder with tears in her eyes) No. No, I am. I mean, I know that I said I wasn’t. I mean, I want to. You know, it's just -- well, I just -- Al: You just -- you just what? Marcie: (looks at him directly) Look at me. Al: Yeah? Marcie: I can't even wear a bathing suit. It's summer and everybody goes to the quarry -- everybody but me. (rushes to the door to a side room, crosses her arms and leans against the door frame) You know, I just don't want anybody to see how I look. Al moves behind her. Al: Marcie, I like the way you look. Marcie: That's because you've never seen how I look underneath. Al wraps his arms around her and nozzles his face against hers. Al: When are you going to stop worrying about this silly stuff? Marcie: I can’t. You know, all my life, Al, nobody has ever been attracted to me. Al: Yeah, well, listen, those days are over, Marcie. Marcie pulls away and turns around and faces him. Marcie: Listen, I know -- I know you say that you want to, but -- Al: Oh, believe me, I know that I do. Marcie: (pleadingly) Al, look at me. Al: (matter of fact) I'm looking at you. Marcie: (steels voice as if she thinks he is deliberately refusing to get her point) Look at the last girl that you went out with. Jen's like a model. She's gorgeous and she's thin, (rushes back into the room, grabs purse) and I am so not! (walks to the door and opens it) Al: You are the woman that I want, Marcie! She turns and faces him. She is standing in the open doorway with her hand on the doorknob. Marcie: I can't do this. I don't know if I ever can. Al: (genuinely confused) Why? Marcie: I don't want you to be disappointed. She closes the door and stands for a few seconds holding onto her sides and with tears in her eyes.
At his apartment, Antonio is in the kitchenette fixing the drinks for he and Jessica. Antonio: Now, I don't want you to be disappointed. Jessica: How could I possibly be disappointed after all that you've done? Antonio: Well, you haven't tasted my cooking yet. Jessica: No, I'm not talking about just tonight. It's everything that you've done for me, for my family. Thank you. Antonio: I'm just glad everyone's ok. Jessica: Yeah. So, um, how are things with your daughter? I mean, how's that going with the baby and with Keri? Antonio: Um -- well, I've come to see a little more of Jamie. Jessica: And Keri? Antonio: Um -- Jessica: How's that going? How do you feel about her? Antonio: Besides angry? Jessica: Besides angry, yeah. Antonio: You know, when I -- when I thought that Keri had died -- I -- I loved Keri. I mean, she was the love of my -- but when I found out it was all a lie just to keep my baby away from me -- Jessica: I -- I can't believe that she did that. Antonio: Yeah, well, the Keri I knew -- I guess I really didn't know her. Jessica: It must be really hard for you to understand. Antonio: Yeah, but she wants me to. And she wants me to forgive her. Jessica: You did love her once. I mean, you have a baby together. Antonio: Yeah. Yeah, I realize that. And I -- I know what it means. We'll always be connected.
At the garage club, Riley hands Flash some sheet music. Riley: We'll always be connected. Look. There it is. It's official -- a song written by you and me. Flash: We make a great team. Adriana bursts through the door with a big smile on her face. Sheyne notices her immediately. Sheyne: You need something? Adriana: Uh, no. Man: Haven't seen you around here. Adriana: I'm new to town. Man: Where from? Adriana: Puerto Rico. I think I should go. Man: Hey, I won't bite. My -- my group hangs here, midnight logic. I'm Sheyne. Adriana: I'm Adriana. Sheyne: Can I get you a beer, Adriana? Adriana: A beer? No, no, I can’t. I mean, not just yet. Sheyne: Yo you want to hang out for a while? Adriana: Yes. I would like that. Flash and Riley are sitting to the side. Flash is singing. Flash: (sings) Just to meet you… Flash: All right, what do you think? Riley: I want to do something with the chorus, but great. Flash: So what do you call this? Riley: Uh, I don't have a title. Flash: I can't wait to meet her. Riley: Who? Flash: The girl. The girl that you wrote this for. Riley, is she the one? Riley: It's all me. Flash: Yeah. That bites, huh? Flash jumps up and walks to the side. Riley walks behind her. Riley: You ok? Flash: Yeah, yeah. Let's get back to it. I need focus.
At Angel Square, Jen records Joey’s every move with her camcorder. He continues to scrub the statue. Jen: Focus. Better. Rex: So, you got a lot of good stuff? Jen: Oh, yeah. Rex: Of Dr. McIver? Jen: Who else? Rex steps around and realizes what Jen is recording. Rex: I got to go. I'll be back with the surprise for you. Jen: Sure, go ahead. Rex walks away but pauses to make sure he has Jen’s credit card. As soon as Rex is out of sight Joey rushes over to Jen. Joey: What are you doing here? Jen: I'm working on a project for my film class. Joey: So you didn't go through with it? Jen: Not yet. Joey: You know, Rex isn't good enough for you. Jen: Yeah? Then who is? Not you. You know, I thought you were this great guy. I thought that you would actually be good for me. But you're more screwed up than I am. You keep saying I need help? You need help.
At the art studio, Natalie is stretching out a drop cloth for Cris as he reads the review. Natalie: You need help. Cristian: How much did you pay this guy again? Natalie: Cristian, you are always getting on my case about getting down on myself. Listen to you. Cristian: Come on, Natalie, it's only one review. Natalie: Yeah, and once it's read, people are going to come here and buy everything off these walls and you can quit your hospital job. Cristian: I haven't even started my hospital job. Natalie: It's going to happen. Cristian: Yeah, well, it's not that easy. Natalie: Yeah, it is. I can paint, too, you know. Look. (picks up a clean paint brush and begins to make strokes in the air) See, this is us at our wedding. And here is our apartment in Paris. And over here is our loft in SoHo. Cristian: Ok. So where are we now? Natalie: We're in our Llanview studio and I'm your paint mixer. Cristian: Oh. Good. Natalie: I just -- I still don't know how you do this. Cristian: What are you talking about? You just painted a beautiful painting. Natalie: Yeah, in my head. Cristian: Well, that's where it all starts. Try something. Close your eyes. (Natalie closes her eyes) Ok, what do you see? Natalie: Nothing. Cristian: You got to try harder, ok? Try from here, from the heart. See it? Natalie: Yeah. Cristian: What? Natalie: Beautiful colors. A whole rainbow. Bright sun and blue sky. Cristian: Sounds beautiful to me. Natalie: (opens her eyes) It is. And that's the way it's going to be.
Back at Rodi’s, Bo and Nora are once again sitting at the table and they are talking. Nora: And that's the way it's going to be. Matthew's going to keep asking questions about his daddy. Bo: Sam. Nora: Well, until he knows it's you. Bo: But do you think he's ready? I mean, would he really accept me as his dad? Gabs arrives. Gabrielle: Hey, hey, hey. Nora looks disappointed that her conversation with Bo has now been cut short. Bo: Hi. Gabrielle: How was the prom? Bo: Well -- Matthew was the man. Gabrielle: Of course. Nora: Well, Jani Aranow thought so. Gabrielle: Oh, yeah? Oh, who's Jani? Nora: Oh, well, she's the cutest girl in his class. Matthew: Mom, the jukebox won't work. Nora: It won't? All right, well, let's go get your quarters back and then we'll see if they'll turn the radio on. (stands up and takes Matthew’s hand.) Excuse us. Nora and Matthew walk toward the bar. Gabrielle: I'm so sorry that I wasn't here sooner. Bo: Me, too. You know, I wish you could've seen Matthew. This kid is a natural on a dance floor. Gabrielle: Well, that doesn't surprise me. I stopped by and brought us some things to look at. Bo: Travel brochures? Gabrielle: Mm-hmm. I was thinking since Mitch Laurence is now locked away in jail, perhaps you and I might be able to get away somewhere together. Bo: Hmm. Well, this looks like there's some great fishing there. Gabrielle: Mm-hmm. Bo: Hey, did I tell you I got Matthew his own rod and reel? Gabrielle: You did? Bo: Mm-hmm. Gabrielle: Well, also, we could take a cruise together. Bo: That sounds inviting. A cruise. I got to take him deep-sea fishing, too, you know, hooking all the marlin there. Gabrielle: So which do you think it should be? Bo: I don't know. Where you want to go? Gabrielle: I want to go anywhere where I can be with you -- just you. No phone calls, no interruptions. I want to get back what we used to have.
At Angel Square, Joey continues to flash his chest in Jen’s face. Joey: Can we get back to what we used to have? Jen: Which was? Joey: We were friends. Jen: Right. Joey: Well, I thought we were. Jen: Come on, you were as hot for me as I was for you. Joey: Ok. I'm human, you know? When a beautiful girl comes on to me and is all over me, I -- Jen: You think I'm beautiful? Joey: Jen, don't start this. You know you're beautiful. Jen: You started it. You-u just didn't want to finish it. Joey: I didn't want to take advantage of you. Jen: I know, I know. You don't want to have a relationship. Joey: You didn't need a relationship, either. You were just -- you were hurting and you wanted somebody to make you feel better. Jen: Well, what do you want? What are you looking for? Joey: This isn't about me. Jen: Well, what do you want? Why are you even talking to me right now? Joey: Because I care about you. Jen: Don't, ok? You know, next time you see me, just -- just walk away, just leave me alone, just let go. Joey: I can't let go.
At Antonio’s apartment, Jess and Antonio are sitting at the dining table. There is music in the background. Antonio: I -- I can't let go of Jamie. Jessica: Oh, what about Keri? Antonio: I don't know. I mean, she's -- she's Jamie’s mother. And she's really, really good with Jamie. But those -- those months that she kept her away from me, I missed out on so much. You know, everybody -- everybody used to say to me that I had no rights to my baby, that I had no future. Except you. Jessica: Well, she was your daughter -- or she is your daughter. You have a right to see her. I just said so. Antonio: Yeah. That's when I knew. Jessica: What? Antonio: That you aren't a princess. (They both laugh) There's -- there's a lot more to you than that. Antonio stands up and stretches out his hand to Jessica. Antonio: Come. She stands up and moves into his arms and they begin to dance. Jessica, though, flashes back to dancing with Mitch. She is once again distressed. She pulls away from Antonio. Jessica: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I can't do this.
At the radio station, Al is at the console. Al: I can't do this. I mean, what if she's not listening? What if it's not enough? I mean, it's definitely not enough. It's got to be special. (He rummages though a number of CDs.) Something really special. (He finds something he likes) Aha. (He puts the CD in the player and then leans back in his chair.) Marcie, I don't want you to be afraid of anything. At Antonio’s, Jessica is standing on the balcony looking off into the distance. Antonio comes up behind her. Antonio: I don't want you to be afraid. I'm sorry if I upset you. Jessica: No, I'm sorry. Antonio: No. No, please, you don't have to be, I mean, not after everything you've been through. I'm amazed at how steady you are. Jessica: Well, I don't feel very steady. Antonio: Look, Jessica, maybe -- maybe you should talk about this. Jessica: I don't want to. Antonio: All right. All right, we won't, ok, but I'm just giving you the same advice you gave me. Jessica: And you didn't talk about it, either. Antonio: No, no, I didn't, but ultimately I did and -- and it worked. Jessica: I -- I can't, not right now. I should really go. Antonio: No. No, no, no, don't. You'll miss my killer dessert. Jessica: Well, you know, since you put it that way -- Antonio: And when you want to talk, I'm here.
At Rodi’s, Al as VOTN is heard on the radio. Al as VOTN: I'm here. Not my usual time, I know, but I have a special message for someone special out there. Marcie is there and standing in front of the bar. She hears Al’s voice and is surprised. Matthew, Nora, Bo and Gabs are sitting at their table. Matthew: Mom, who's that guy talking to? Gabrielle: (leans toward Bo and stares at him) Obviously, someone that he loves very much. Al as VOTN: You know who you are. I've talked to you this way before. I've told you how I feel about you, how beautiful you are, inside and out. Marcie listens to Al intently then folds her arms on the bar top and rests her chin on her arms. Marcie: You're talking to me. Al: I'm talking to you. It's the only way I knew to get you to listen to me, to get you to believe me. I know what I see when I look at you, and if I knew how to say it better, well, then I would. But I'll leave it to the music. Marcie smiles as she listens to the music. Gabs smiles at Bo. Nora smiles at Matthew and Bo. Matthew smiles at Bo and Nora. Bo smiles at Matthew, Nora and Gabs. In other words, there were smiles all around and deep messages flying faster than the speed of sound. At Angel Square, Joey throws his chest at Jen again. At the art studio, Cris paints as Natalie watches with a big smile on her face. At the garage club, Sheyne plays his guitar for Adriana, while Riley smiles as he watches Flash listening to a CD. Back at Rodi’s, Marcie looks thoughtful as she listens to the words of the song and then smiles. At the radio station, Al leans back and listens with a hopeful expression on his face.
In Al’s dorm room, he is sitting at his desk writing on a CD inner sleeve. He labels the CD, Marcie’s Mix. There is a knock on the door. He opens the door and finds Marcie standing there. She dips her head for a second then looks up at him. Marcie: I heard you. Al:: (a little bit wary) Yeah? (leans against the door) You believe me now? Marcie: Yeah. I believe you. They smile at each other then he reaches for her and they hug.
At the garage club, Sheyne hands Adriana a bottle. Sheyne: I believe you, you're 21 -- in how many years? Adriana: I will be soon. Sheyne: Sure, chill. I'm not carding you. Ah, here's a brew. Adriana: Hmm. Sheyne: A lot of people come here to jam. You play? Adriana: Um, "play"? Sheyne: Music. Adriana: Oh, si. I play the cello. Sheyne: Cool, like Rasputine. Adriana: Sure. Flash and Riley are sitting next to each other. Flash: (sings) In the moment I surrender… Flash: How'd that sound? Riley: Great. I like it like this. In the moment
Flash: So lower. Ok, I can do that. Flash starts to sing but then has a coughing fit. Riley: Hey, hey, hey, take it easy. Drink this. Are you ok? Flash: I'm fine. Don't -- don't worry about me, ok? Riley: I worry. Flash: We're going to cut this C.D. I'm not going to let you guys down. Riley: Look, I don't care about the C.D., Ok? I care about you. I don't want anything to happen to you.
At Angel Square, Jen and Joey’s pecs continue their conversation. Joey: I don't want anything bad to happen to you. Jen: To me? Ok, well, if Flash -- or Sarah -- is really your cousin, then that's sick. Joey: Whoa. How do you know about that? Jen: Well, I can see why you wouldn't want anyone to know that you're dating your own cousin. Joey: I'm not. Jen: What do you call it, then? Joey: Have you been going through Flash's things again? Jen: Oh, right, I'm the bad one here. Joey: Wait. How -- Jen: Just leave me alone! I mean it! Joey: Jen -- Jen: Leave me alone. Joey gets an attitude. He grabs his bucket and brush and storms off. Rex walks into the scene. Rex: Jen! Jen: (Obviously uninterested and irritated that Rex has arrived.) Hi. Rex: Get what you want? Jen: What? Rex: On tape. Dr. McIver doing anything worth filming? Jen: Wasn't what I had in mind.
At Rodi’s, Bo and Gabs are at the table. Gabs is looking at a travel brochure. Gabrielle: Not what I had in mind, but a dude ranch could be fun. I -- Bo: Honey, come on, it's a joke! Gabrielle: Oh. Oh, you didn't -- Bo: Listen, if I have a chance to get you alone, we're not going to be riding any horses. Gabrielle: Oh. What would we be doing, cowboy? Bo: I want to take you to a place where you can just be waited on hand and foot, you can be pampered, you know, morning, noon, night. Gabrielle: I don't need all that. I just need you. Bo: Ok. Great. We'll do it, ok, right after I drive Matthew up to his camp. I offered. Gabrielle: Yeah. Sure. Swing music starts playing in the background. Matthew rushes over to Bo. Matthew: Mom said this song's just like the one that you guys won a trophy for. Bo: Yeah. It is pretty darn close. Nora sits down at the table. Matthew: Can you show me? Nora: You want us to dance? Matthew: Yeah. Nora: I don't think Bo's up to it. Bo starts taking off his suit jacket. Bo: Why don't you speak for yourself? Nora: What are you -- Gabrielle, a little help here, please? Gabrielle: I'd -- I'd love to see it. Bo: There you go. Come on. Let's give it a whirl for old times. (Grabs Nora’s hand and pulls her to the dance floor.) Come on, we'll show them. They start to do jitterbugging with complicated and joyful moves. It is obvious they are having fun. Nora: It's funny how you remember! Bo: It's just like riding a bike! Nora walks back to the table, panting and laughing. Bo is still dancing merrily. Nora: Yeah, good, go ride a bike with him, Gabrielle. Oh. He's all yours. Bo walks over to Gabs. Bo: What do you say, honey? (stretches out his hand) You want to dance? The music that is playing is slower now. Gabs takes his hand and moves into his arms. Gabrielle: (with her mouth close to his ear) Dance, eat, sleep. I want to do everything with you.
Back at Al’s dorm room, Marcie walks into the room and stands near his desk. Al closes the door and walks up behind her. Marcie: You know, I want to do everything with you, Al. I'm just -- I'm just not ready to. Al: It's ok, Marcie. Marcie: (turns and faces him) I just -- I've never -- you know? Al: Well, when we "you know," (smiles at her and shifts his hips to gently mock her euphemism but then his voice turns serious) it's going to be perfect. Marcie: It will be, because it'll be with you. They lean in to kiss but Al pulls back and reaches around her. Al: Oh, I made you something. Marcie: You did? Al: Yeah. Marcie: "Marcie's Mix"? Al: Yeah. It's all the things that I want to say to you, but I just -- I don't know, the music seemed to say it better. Hold on, let me just put this on for you. The music begins to play and he smiles at her. Marcie: (softly) I'm glad you're not mad at me. Al: Mad at you? Marcie, I love you. Marcie: For real? Al: Oh, it's definitely real. Marcie exhales. They kiss then pull apart and look longingly at each other. Marcie: I love you. Al smiles at her and they kiss again.
At the art studio, Natalie is sitting on the window bench smiling and watching Cris paint. Loud music is blaring from the portable stereo. Natalie: (yells) I love you! Cristian: What's that? Natalie: I said I love you! Cristian: You're going to have to say it a little louder because I can't hear you. Natalie jumps up and turns volume down on the player. Natalie: You just want me to keep saying that. Cristian: Well, that's because I like hearing it. They kiss. Natalie: Oh, yeah? Then hear this -- I love you. Cristian: Hmm. I like that, too. Natalie: Yeah? How about this -- I love you. Cris gets paint on Natalie’s sweater. Cristian: Oh. Sorry about that. Natalie takes off her sweater. Natalie: Let's make it always be like this. I want it to last forever. Cristian: Well, we've got forever. We've got all the time in the world.
Back at Al’s dorm’s room, Al & Marcie are listening to the CD. Al is sitting on the floor leaning against his bed and Marcie is sitting with her back resting on his chest. Al has his arms wrapped around her. Al: There's all the time in the world. Marcie: I don't know how I got so lucky. Al: You didn’t. I did. Marcie: Oh, you didn't used to think so. Al: Well, you didn't really like me very much when we first met, either. Marcie: Oh, no. Till I saw what you were really like. Al: Well, there's still a lot that we have to learn about each other. Marcie: We have the whole summer to do it. Al: Let's take longer than that.
At Rodi’s, Bo and Gabs are still slow dancing. Gabrielle: Let's take longer. A week barely seems enough time. Bo: Honey, I'm sorry. You know what, a week's about all I can really manage. Gabrielle: As long as I have you. Matthew comes up behind Bo and tugs at his shirt. Bo: Sir? Matthew: Mom said we have to go now. Bo: Oh. Hey, you know what? (squats down so he is eye level with Matthew) Thanks for letting me be a chaperone at your school dance. Matthew: Can we go fishing before camp starts? Nora: Matthew? Honey, Bo's a busy guy. Bo: Yeah, but, you know, I always got time to go fishing. Why don't I give you a call, we'll set something up, all right? Nora: We should probably talk, too. Bo: Yeah. Yeah, soon. Soon. Nora: So, well -- Bo: I'll see you, bud. Nora: Thanks for letting the school borrow Bo, and now we'll get out of your hair. Good night. Bo: Night. Nora and Matthew walk toward the door. Gabs swings around in front of him. Gabrielle: Good night. Is there a problem, hmm? Bo: No. About what? Gabrielle: Nora talking about needing to talk, you two? Bo: No, see, we're talking about when is the best time to let Matthew know that I'm his dad. Gabrielle: Oh. I thought -- but you're not going to wait on that? Bo: No, you know what -- we want to do what's best for him. So we figure it might be better sooner than to wait till later. Gabrielle: Well, you'll make the right decision. You always do. Bo: I got to take care of this check. Bo walks toward the bar. Gabs watches him. Gabrielle: It isn't going to be easy. Hmm.
At the garage club, Adriana and Sheyne are standing in the open doorway. Adriana: But this isn't going to be easy. The lady I live with, my godmother, doesn't want me to go out. Sheyne: Be there tomorrow night and I'll play something just for you. Adriana: All right, then. I will. Adriana walks away and Sheyne continues to stand in the doorway and watches her walk away. Flash and Riley are sitting on the stage. Riley is playing his guitar and Flash is singing. Flash: (sings) Take a look into my eyes see my world so many things I've gone and done just to meet you Riley: You got it. Flash: No, no, I'm off. I'm off somewhere. Let me see the music. (grabs
the folder in Riley’s hand) Riley: No, really, Flash, you sound great, really. Flash: No, no, there's got to be something better in there. Just – (opens the folder and see the sheet music with the title printed on it) "Flash of Light"? Riley: That's what I call it. Flash: You said that you didn't have a title for this. Riley: (exhales) I lied. Flash: Why? Riley: I wrote it for you. Flash: (very surprised) Me? Riley: I wanted you to know how I feel.
At Angel Square, Rex walks up to Jen, who is once again sitting at the picnic table and staring at the image of Joey on her camcorder screen. Rex: Listen, I wanted you to know how I feel, so – (places ring box on
the table in front of her) Jen opens the box and sees a diamond engagement ring. Jen: Is this for real? Rex: It's not zirconium. I got it all set up. We can stay for the "I dos," stay for the honeymoon. It'll be a blast. (Jen glances again at the image of Joey’s pecs) What do you say? Jen: Sure. Why not? Rex: Well, it'll be a laugh to see the look on people's faces, huh? Jen: (looks at Joey’s pecs yet again) Yeah, wait till everyone finds out.
At Antonio’s, Jessica nibbles on a strawberry. She and Antonio are once again sitting at the dining table. Jessica: Wait until everybody finds out. Antonio Vega, super cop, is also a gourmet chef. Antonio: Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, wait a second. That stays here between us, you know, considering that I got stuck with that teddy bear? Jessica: Yeah. Thank you so much, for everything. This was fantastic. Antonio: Well, I got a confession. I had help. Jessica: Your mom? Antonio: Your mom. I asked her to make me a list of your favorite foods. Jessica flashes back to a sitting at a table laden with food at Lion’s Head. Mitch: Tell me your favorite foods and I'll have them prepared for you.
Antonio realizes something is not right with Jessica. Antonio: What's wrong? Jessica: Nothing. Antonio: Let me help, Jessica. Jessica: You can’t. It's fine. I should really just – Jessica gets up and rushes to the door. Antonio: No, Jessica, come back. Jessica: I'll call you. She opens the door and finds herself face-to-face with Keri. Jessica: Uh, I was just leaving. She rushes away. Antonio: (standing in the door and calling after her) Jessica – Keri strolls into the apartment. Keri: Can we talk? Antonio does not move from the doorway but he turns toward her. The door is still open. Antonio: Uh, now's not a good time. Keri: Can see that. But it never seems to be a good time. Keri turns and faces Antonio. Keri: Look, Antonio, I meant what I said before -- I love you and I want us to try again. Just hope it's not too late. They stare at each other.
