MARCAL SCENES PAGE 20
Scene 25 An Initiation & A
Wedding
August 20, 2003 (Wednesday) Setup: At Llanfair, everything is set up for Jen & Joey’s wedding. Viki and Joey walk into the library. Joey is obviously nervous. He adjusts the folding chairs that have been set up for the guests. Joey: Have you seen Kevin? Viki: Joey, he'll be along soon. Joey: He better be. He's got the rings. Viki: Hey, it's all going to be fine, really. Joey: I know, I know. I'm just -- I don't know. Viki: Sweetheart, you're nervous, that's all, which is perfectly understandable. You're getting married today. Joey: Yeah. Viki: And it's going to be a lovely ceremony. Joey: And thank you for letting me have it here. I know you have your doubts. Viki: Well, all I ever wanted was for you to be happy, ok? Joey: Jen makes me happy. Viki: Good. Excuse me.
Viki leaves. Andrew, Al and Cris approach Joey. Andrew is dressed to officiate the wedding, while Cris and Al are in tuxedoes. Andrew: Hi, Joe. Joey: Hey. Andrew: Can you gentlemen take care of our groom while I make a quick call? Al: I'm pretty sure we can handle that. Andrew touches Joey on the arm then walks away. Andrew: I'll see you later. Cristian: Look, in case I don't get a chance later, congratulations. Joey: Thanks. Cristian: You know, I've never seen Jen so happy. You're good for her. Joey: Well, I just wish Natalie and Jessica felt more the same. I mean, it's not like I expect them to be bridesmaids. Al: Yeah, well, don't worry about that. Marcie's got the whole bridesmaid thing covered. She's back there with Jen right now.
In the meanwhile, Maddi-evil and the Sorority Thug-gettes are hustling Marcie, who is blindfolded and carrying a sign in her hand, down an alley. They are all dressed in black robes with hoods. They open the door to The Garage club, step inside and then pull Marcie in. Marcie: (rattling on and speaking at a rapid tempo) Well, maybe I can sneak back into Logan's and return this when we're done with the initiation. Maddi-evil: You stole it, you got away with it, move on. Maddi-evil hops up on the performance stage. Marcie: (talking a mile a minute) Yeah, but I've never stolen anything before in my life. You know, I can't believe I got past that security guard, especially -- I'm wearing – (The Thug-gettes yank Marcie around and pull off the blindfold) ow! -- My maid of honor's dress. Maddi-evil: Quiet! Marcie: We're in the garage. Maddi-evil: Recite the first five letters of the Greek alphabet -- backward. Marcie: Backward? Epsilon, delta, gamma, beta, alpha. (rushes forward and talks in a pleading voice) I'm sorry, I don't mean to complain, really. It's just that I don't know -- what's it been, 36 hours? I haven't had sleep in 36 hours! Maddi-evil: Fall semester we have something going on every night. No one ever sleeps. Woman: Especially the pledges. Maddi-evil: If you can't handle a little sleep deprivation, maybe you're not Sigma Delta Delta material. Marcie: (speaks rapidly) No, no, no, I can. I can, really. It's just that, see, my best friend, it's her wedding. (whips around and pleads with The Thug-gettes) I promised her that I would get ready. You know, I'm the maid of honor. Maddi-evil: Quiet. There's only one more phase to the initiation. You can't pledge until you do it. Marcie: Ok. Ok, what is it? Maddi-evil: (smirks then looks at The Thug-gettes and smiles) Get down on the floor and oink like the pig you are. Marcie frowns. A couple of The Thug-gettes move behind Marcie and slide the robe off of her shoulders.
Meanwhile at the Carriage House at Llanfair, Jen is getting worried. Jen: Marcie's still not here? Lindsay: Right -- I think maybe she got snagged up in some traffic. Jen: But she's my maid of honor. Lindsay: Look, I know, but, honey, there's still time. Don't worry. Is that a wedding present? Jen: Yeah, from Will. [Lindsay gasps] Lindsay: Oh. He always had such beautiful taste. Jen: Too bad he couldn't make it for the wedding. Lindsay: You mind if I read the card, hon? Jen: No. Lindsay: "Jen, sorry I can't be there to celebrate your special day. I'll be wishing you and Joe love and happiness for the rest of your lives together. Love, Will." The doorbell rings. Jen: Finally. That must be Marcie. When she opens the door, however, Rex is standing there. He has come to offer to return her father’s house to her.
Back at The Garage, Maddi-evil is determined to totally humiliate Marcie. She is standing on the performance stage and a stage light is shining down on her spotlighting her against a dark background. Maddi-evil: Hey, piggy, are you deaf? I said get down and oink. Marcie looks around as if she cannot believe what she just heard. Maddi-evil hops down from the stage and she and The Thug-gettes surround Marcie. Marcie: (angry) Is that really necessary? Maddi-evil: Do you want to be a Sigma Delta Delta? Marcie: Yes, but I just don't understand why I have to do something like that. Maddi-evil: Because it's part of initiation. Everybody does it. Marcie exhales, turns and walks forcefully to the exit. Maddi-evil calls after her. Maddi-evil: Come on, almost done. Marcie pauses and then turns slowly and walks back to them. She slowly gets down on her knees. Maddi-evil: All fours. Marcie puts her hands on the floor and balances herself on her hands and knees. Maddi-evil hops back on the stage.
Maddi-evil: Now oink. Thug-gette1: Oink, pig. Thug-gette2: Oink. Marcie: Oink. Maddi-evil: Louder. Marcie: Oink. Is that it? (angry) Can I get up now? Maddi-evil: Hold it. Maddi-evil gestures to the Thug-gettes to get something from the side of the room. She hops down from the stage and walks next to Marcie. Maddi-evil: Close your eyes. The Thug-gettes rush in with a huge garbage can and dump trash and garbage all over Marcie. Marcie: (cries out) What is this? Marcie brushes at the debris. There are tears in Marcie’s eyes. Maddi-evil kneels next to her and talks directly in Marcie’s ear. Maddi-evil: What'd you think it would be? A peace rally? Marcie: I don't understand. I don't understand what you want. What is this about? Maddi-evil: Payback for my boyfriend Deke Carter. You got him thrown in jail, remember? Marcie: Deke? Maddi-evil: Slipped your mind? Marcie: (angry and forceful) Deke deserved to be arrested. Maddi-evil: How pathetic are you? You really believe that we wanted you to join Sigma Delta Delta. The Thug-gettes laugh. Maddi-evil: You see any other fat losers here? Marcie stands up and looks around at The Thug-gettes and speaks forcefully. Marcie: What I see is a herd of scurrying sheep, scurrying after whatever is cool this week. At least pigs are smart. The Sorority Thug-gettes look shocked. Marcie tries to walk away but The Thug-gettes block her path. Maddi-evil: Where you going? The party's just getting started. The Thug-gettes close rank around Marcie and begin to circle her.
Meanwhile back at the Carriage House, Jen continues to fret about Marcie’s absence. The phone rings and Lindsay answers it. Lindsay: Hello. Joey: Lindsay, it's Joe. Just checking in. Is everything ok? Lindsay: No, everything's fine. We're just a little concerned because Marcie's not here yet. Joey: But I thought she was already there with Jen. Lindsay: No, not yet. Joey: All right, thanks. I'll check it out, see what I can find out.
At Llanfair, Joey walks over to Viki, who is sitting with Natalie, Jessica and Cris. Viki: What's wrong? Joey: It's Marcie -- she never showed up. Viki stands up and faces Natalie and Jessica. Viki: Ooh, ok. Ladies, the maid of honor seems to be running a little late, and I know that Jen certainly needs somebody with her. (Natalie, Jessica & Cris all look around as if trying to spot who the world Viki could be talking about; Viki ignores their obvious dig at Jen. She looks directly at Jessica and Natalie) So I think it would be a very good idea if the two of you went down there to help her out. (Jessica and Natalie raise their eyebrows then look at each other with wide eyes.) I definitely know that your brother can count on you in a time like this. Jessica and Natalie look at Viki as if she has totally lost her mind. Finally, Jessica tries to regain her composure but Natalie continues to look at Viki with a raised eyebrow. Jessica: (stands up) All right, mom. Come on. Natalie exhales and gets up and follows Jessica. Meanwhile, Joey has walked out on the patio. Al walks up to him. Al: Hey. Joe. Joey: Yeah. Al: (Very worried) You were talking about Marcie before? Joey: Yeah, yeah. She never showed up at the carriage house. Do you know where she is?
At The Garage, Maddi-evil continues her nasty business. The Thug-gettes force Marcie toward the stage. Marcie: What do you want from me? Maddi-evil: A song. Like the rest of the freaks that hang out here. Woman: A song about how you live with yourself. Second woman: A song about how you hate war. Maddi-evil: How about a song written by one of your peace freak buddies? Marcie: If you just let me go to my friend's wedding, please. Maddi-evil: No song, no wedding. Marcie gets up on the stage. Thug-gette1: Sing. Thug-gette2: Sing. Maddi-evil: Sing. Maddi-evil & The Thug-gettes: Sing sing! Sing! Sing! Sing! Sing! Marcie: (sings) O beautiful for spacious skies for amber waves of grain for purple mountains majesties above the fruited plains! America! America! God shed his grace on thee and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea! Maddi-evil and The Sorority Thug-gettes are livid. They stare at Marcie in stony silence as she sings.
At Llanfair, the wedding preparations continue but Al is on pins and needles waiting for Marcie. Out on the patio, he dials his cell phone. Al: Marcie, it's Al. Where are you? Jen said you never showed up. I'm worried. Call me.
Back at The Garage, the planned humiliation continues. The Thug-gettes shove Marcie around from one to the other. Maddi-evil: The fun's just getting started. Marcie: Oh, will you stop it? Woman: Oh, yeah, let's see you dance now, huh? Maddi-evil: You're kind of clumsy, aren't you? Marcie: Will you get away from me! Stop it! You kids just get away!
Marcie struggles and gets out of their grasp. She runs. Maddi-evil: Who's running, pig? Maddi-evil and The Thug-gettes cackle as they watch Marcie run away.
In Angel Square, Marcie trips in front of the bench. She drags herself onto the bench. Sarah sees her and rushes over. Marcie: Ow! Flash: Hello, Marcie. Marcie, are you ok? Here, here, let me help you. Come on. Marcie: No, no, no, I -- Flash: Oh, my god. Come on. Marcie: Ah! Oh, you know what? I don't have time to explain what happened. Do you think you could just help me home? Flash: Yeah, sure. Come on. No problem. Marcie: Thank you. Flash: (helps Marcie up and puts her arm around her waist) Be careful.
At Marcie’s dorm room, Marcie is dressed in her robe and sitting on her bed. Sarah is kneeling in front of her dabbing alcohol on a series of cuts on Marcie’s knee. Marcie: I really don't want to talk about it, ok? Flash: I -- no, it's all right. I -- I completely understand. Do you want me to call Al? Marcie: No. No. I'm late for a wedding. Flash: Marcie, you really need to lie down. This looks serious, and you look really upset. Marcie: (rapidly) No, no, I'm the maid of honor. Flash: Oh, yeah. Jen and Joe's wedding? Marcie: Yeah. I'm sorry. Flash: It's all right. No, it's cool. I was invited, but I'm not going to go. I don't think that you should go, either. Jen has to understand that. You're really bad. Marcie: No, no, no, no, listen, I can do this. (gets up and moves toward the dresser) I really can. You know, Jen's counting on me. You know, I can't let her down (starts crying) and I have to find something to wear and I have to put on makeup. Flash, do you think you could help me? Flash: Jen, probably doesn't have any idea what a great friend you are. Marcie: Please? (teary) Please? Flash: All right, all right. Let me go see what you got. Let me go. Marcie: Thanks, Flash. Marcie dips her head, rubs her arm and really begins to cry.
At Llanfair, Gabs & Bo along with Renee & Asa arrive. Al is in the foyer and greets them. Gabrielle: Oh, don't you look handsome. Renee: And very distinguished, I'd say. Joey: Thank you very much. Good to see you, Asa. Asa: Good to see you, boy. Asa and Renee walk into the library but Al stops Bo. Al: Commissioner -- Bo: Yeah. Al: Can I talk to you for a second? Gabrielle: Is there something wrong, Al? Bo: Sure. Al: No, no, mom, everything is fine, ok? Just go in. I'll be right in. Gabrielle: You sure? Al: Yes. Gabs nods and goes into the library. Al turns to Bo. Al: Marcie's missing. Bo: Since when? Al: I'm not sure. She's supposed to be Jen's maid of honor. She's supposed to be down at the carriage house right now helping get her ready, but she never showed up. I can't reach her on my cell phone. I was going to go and look for her, but -- I didn't want to worry her, but Carter, that Deke Carter kid -- Bo: Yeah. Al: He made another threat. Bo: What did he say? Al: The police station, before I left, he said that Marcie was going to get hers.
Outside of The Garage club, Sarah & Riley are talking. Flash: The strangest thing just happened. I was in Angel Square, and I ran into Marcie Walsh. She was on the ground. Her knee was hurt. It was like deja vu, like when you and Sheyne found her. Riley: Did she say what happened? Flash: No. She totally shut down. Anyway, did you find your dad? Riley: Yeah. Let's go in first. Flash: Right. Riley opens the door and they see all of the trash and garbage strewn around the room. Riley: What the hell?
In the foyer of Llanfair, Bo and Al are still talking. Al: I'm going to go and check Marcie's dorm room first. Bo: keep in touch with me. I'm going to send some cops over to the campus. Al: Ok. Marcie rushes in the front door. Al: (grabs her arms) Oh, Marcie! Thank god! Marcie: Honey, I'm sorry. I'm -- I'm sorry. (rubs her arms and then walks to the door and looks in the library) Well, has the wedding started yet? Al: No. Are you ok? Marcie: Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I -- I got held up. You know, I'll tell you about it later. Bo: Marcie, I'm glad to see you. Marcie: You, too, Commissioner. Bo goes into the library. Al: (very softly) Marcie? Marcie: Yeah? Al: Something's wrong. Marcie: No. No. I just -- I hate being late. Where's Jen? Al is not convinced but just then Natalie and Jessica walk into the foyer. Natalie: Marcie, Jen's going to be so glad to see you. Jessica: Oh, it's time to get started. Marcie: Ok, well, why don't you go in and I'll see you guys after. Al: Ok. Marcie: Ok. Al: And then you'll tell me what's going on. Marcie: Yeah. They kiss then Al goes into the library. Jen comes down the stairs. Jen: Marcie! Marcie: Jen! Hi. I'm sorry I'm so late. Jen: What happened? I thought you were going to wear the dress and the necklace that I gave you. Marcie: Yeah, I know. I was, I was. There was a family problem. Jen: Oh, as long as you're here. Marcie: Yes, I'm so glad I'm here, you know? How about you? How you are doing? Jen: About like you'd expect. Marcie: My, god. God, you look beautiful. (very hyper with tears in her eyes) You're like a fairy princess. Oh, god, Joe's not going to believe it when he sees you. Jen: Thanks. They hug. Marcie appears to be in pain and she is crying.
Meanwhile, on the roof somewhere in Angel Square, River is reading poetry to Adrianna. His voice is a backdrop to the wedding: "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach, when feeling out of sight for the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day's most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. (Joey walks into the room and positions himself near Andrew) I love thee freely, as men strive for right. I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with a passion put to use in my old griefs and with my childhood's faith. (After having escorted Marcie down the aisle, Al kisses her gently) I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints." The "Wedding March" plays and Al and Cris position themselves on either side of the double doors then open the doors. Jen is standing there. River continues the poem: River: "I love thee with the breath and smiles and tears of all my life." Jen and Joey look at each other.
August 21 (Thursday)
Setup: Jen and Joey are about to get married in the library at Llanfair. The Wedding March plays and Jen is standing in the doorway of the library. Jen pauses and then walks slowly down the aisle. She joins Joey in front of Andrew. Andrew: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness and to bless the joining together of this man and this woman in holy matrimony. The union of husband and wife was intended by god for their mutual joy, for the love and the comfort they give to each other in prosperity and adversity, and, when it is god's will, for the procreation of children and their nurture in the knowledge and the love of the lord. Into this holy union, Joseph and Jennifer now come to be joined. If there any among you who know of any reason why they may not be lawfully married, speak now or else forever hold your peace. Who gives this woman to this man? Lindsay stands up. Lindsay: I do, on behalf of her father, Sam. He would've been so proud of you today. Andrew: Joseph, do you take Jennifer to be your wife do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health and forsaking all others be faithful to her as long as you both shall live? Joey: I do. Marcie flashes back to the scene at The Garage. Madison's voice: Hey, piggy, are you deaf? I said get down and oink.
Marcie's voice: Oink. Maddi-evil's voice: Louder. Marcie's voice: Oink! Tears start rolling down Marcie’s cheeks. She dabs at her eyes. Andrew: Jennifer, do you take Joseph - Marcie sniffles. Jen looks over at Marcie. Jen: Marcie, are you ok? Marcie nods enthusiastically but there are clearly tears in her eyes. Marcie: I'm sorry. Weddings just affect me this way. I'm fine. Jen walks over to Marcie. Al is behind her. Jen: Are you sure? Marcie: Yes, yes. You know, I just -- I can't believe I stopped the wedding. I'm fine, really. (waves Jen and Al away) Go ahead, go on. Jen walks back to Joey and Al goes back to his seat and sits down slowly. Andrew: Marcie? You all right? Marcie: Yes. Yes. (laughs nervously) Andrew: Jennifer, do you take Joseph to be your husband? Do you promise to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live? Jen: I do. I love you. Joey: And I love you. Matthew: (steps forward balancing the rings on a pillow) Is it time? Andrew: It certainly is. Do you have the rings? Andrew: Joseph, Jennifer, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Those whom god hath put together, let no man put asunder. It's ok, Joe. You can kiss her now. They kiss and everyone claps. Matthew: Is that it? Andrew: That's it, Matthew. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Reverend Joe and Jennifer Buchanan. Everyone claps again.
Later, the family is on the patio taking a family picture. Marcie and Al are in the library. Al: So, Marcie, you want to tell me what's going on? Why were you so late? Marcie: It doesn't matter. You know, the -- the important thing is that I -- I made it. (tears in her eyes) You know, I wouldn't want to let Jen down. Al: Ok. They kiss. Jen walks up. Jen: Excuse me. Hey! I want to get a picture with my maid of honor. Marcie: Oh, yeah, of course! (They hug) Oh, ow. Jen: What, what? Are you ok? Al: See? See, I knew it. I knew something was going on. Now, you tell me what it is. Marcie: No, no, no. Stop fussing over me! I'm fine! I really am fine! Jen: Really? Marcie: Fine. Jen: You look beautiful, but why didn't you wear the dress that I -- that I gave you? Marcie: Oh, you know, it's a long story, but you shouldn't be worrying about that today. Look at you -- you look amazing! Jen: Thanks. I -- I can't believe that I'm married. Marcie: Joe is such a great guy. You're so lucky. I'm so happy for you. Jen: Who knows -- you might be next. Marcie: Oh! Marcie: (looks up at Al and giggles) No. No. Jen: What about the necklace? Didn't it go with this dress, or -- Marcie: Oh. Yeah, you know what? I was so frazzled when my maid of honor -- I mean, you know, I was late and – (giggles nervously) Al looks worried. He knows that something is wrong. Marcie: It's -- I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I must've forgotten. I'm sorry.
Later, Al rushes back into the library at Llanview from the foyer. He calls out for Marcie. Al: Marcie? Hey, let's get going. Everybody's on their way over to the Palace for the party. Marcie: Yeah. I want to make a stop first. Al: Where? Marcie: Um, The Garage. I want to find the necklace that Jen gave me. Al: What would it be doing there? Marcie: (frazzled and teary) I don't want to talk about it. If you love me, Al, you will take me to the garage and you'll help me find it. Al turns her around and cups her face gently in his hands. Al: Marcie, you know that I love you. Ok? Marcie: Yes. He kisses her gently then he wraps his arms around her. Al: We'll go find it. Marcie: Ok. Thank you. They walk out together.
At The Garage club, Marcie rushes through the door. Marcie: Al, you have to help me find that necklace. (rushes over to the pile of garbage) I think -- I think it's over here. Al looks around confused. Al: What the hell happened here? Marcie: I don't know. I think it's over here, please. Please help me find it. Marcie gets on her knees and begins to pick through the garbage. After awhile, Marcie stands up. She’s frustrated. Marcie: It's not here. Al is on the other side of the club, looking near a sofa. He reaches down and picks something up. Al: Ah! I got it. He holds the necklace up and rushes over to Marcie. Marcie: You got it? Al: Yes. Marcie: (takes the necklace gratefully) Oh, my god. Thank you. Al: Marcie, what happened? And don't tell me that it's just the wedding. Marcie: (looks down at the necklace in her hand and then up at Al with tears in her eyes) They didn't want me. Al: Who? Marcie: The sorority, Sigma Delta Delta. Al: But I thought that they said they wanted you to pledge? Marcie: (fingers the necklace) They just tricked me, you know. They lied to me. They made me do some awful things. They never wanted me. Al wraps his arms around her from behind, hugs her tightly and kisses her on the forehead.
August 22 (Friday)
Setup: Marcie and Al are holding hands and walking through Angel Square. Marcie: It was the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. Al: Yeah, I guess that's true, but only because Jen's had so much practice. Marcie hits Al playfully in the chest. They both laugh but then she spots Maddi-evil and some of her demented cronies. Marcie: Oh, stop. Let's go the other way. Al: Marcie, is that them? Marcie: Yes -- Al: Marcie, are those the girls that put you through the hazing? Marcie: Yes, but let's just go the other way. Come on. Al: Marcie, you walk away now and you let them win. Marcie: Yeah, but remember what happened when you went after Deke and Steve. Al: These girls attacked you, and they did it because of me, Marcie. Marcie: Yeah, but that's not what I meant. Al: Come on. (grabs her hand) We're not going to get mad this time. We're going to get even. They walk away.
At Llanfair, Jen and Viki are talking in the library. Jen: Reverend Carpenter wants Joe to take over at St. James for a few weeks, so we're going to have to postpone the honeymoon. We still want to go, just not right away. Viki: I think it's wonderful of you to be so agreeable about it. Jen: Well, I would never want to make Joe choose between me and his work, which is why I was kind of hoping that we could stay in the carriage house for a few more days until we move into dad's. Viki: Well, of course you can. My goodness, my son and his wife can stay as long as they like. Jen: Joe's wife. I like the sound of that. I'm going to be a good one. Viki: All you have to do is be yourself. Jen: I love Joe, and I would never want him to be hurt. Viki smiles at Jen. The doorbell rings. Viki: Excuse me. Vikiwalks to the door and opens it. Al and Marcie are there. Viki: Hi. Al: Hello, Mrs. Davidson. Marcie: I hope it's not too late. Viki: No, no. Of course not. Come in. Marcie: I didn't want to bother you at home, but -- Al: It's ok. Marcie: But Al insisted. Al: Yeah, I thought that you should hear about this first hand. Viki: Ok. Is everything all right? Marcie: Well, yeah, it's really not that bad. Al: (exasperated with Marcie) Some of the Sigma Delt girls came to Marcie. They said they wanted a pledge. They told her they had some pre-rush activity. It turned out to be an excuse for hazing. Viki: Hazing? Al: Yeah. Jen walks into the foyer from the library. Jen: What happened? What did they do? Jen and Marcie hug. Marcie: Jen, it was horrible. Jen: It's ok. Tell us what happened. Marcie: Well, they made me do some really embarrassing things. Viki: Were you hurt? Marcie: No, not really. Viki: Marcie, I'm sorry, can you be a little more specific. Marcie: They threw garbage on me, and then they made me get down on my hands and knees, on all fours, and act like a -- Viki: It's all right. Jen: God, those witches. I know who they are. It's Madison Kensington. She's the ringleader. Al: Yeah, and Deke is her boyfriend. That's the guy who jumped Marcie in Angel Square. Jen: That's why you were late to the wedding, right? The dress was ruined because -- Marcie: I'm sorry. Jen: Why didn't you say something? Marcie: I didn't want to ruin your wedding. Jen: Mrs. Davidson, you got to do something. Viki: Look, I want to speak to the new dean first thing in the morning, make sure he sets up a hearing. Al: Thank you, Mrs. Davidson. Marcie: (nervous, frightened) Will I have to appear at this hearing or -- Viki: Yes, Marcie, I'm afraid you will have to testify. Jen: I'll come with you. Al: And so will I. Viki: Honey, I'm very sorry, but in order to punish the girls who did this to you, we're going to need some kind of proof, ok? Something very tangible. Al: Then I'll just have to go and get something tangible. Marcie: (worried) Well, what if this just winds up making things worse?
At the Carriage House, Marcie & Jen are talking. Jen: How can Madison and those girls be so disgusting? Marcie: I can't believe I believed them. You know, why would I even think that girls like that would want to be friends with me? Jen: You know, it's their loss. You are so great, Marcie. Don't you know that? Marcie: Lately? No. Marcie sits on the stairs. Jen: You are so brave. You stood up to the whole administration when they wanted you to rip down your peace banner. Jen sits next to Marcie on the stairs. Marcie: Yeah, well, if I had known what was going to happen, I never would have -- Jen: You still would have done it because that's the kind of person you are. You stand up for the things that you care about. Even me when I was a total jerk to you. Marcie: (takes Jen’s hand and squeezes it) Yeah, well, that was a really long time ago, Jen. Jen: And you've been so supportive of me and Joe. If you hadn't talked to him about me, maybe we never would have even gotten together. Marcie: Yes. Yes, you would have. You would have found a way. Jen: And you were in pain and you showed up for my wedding. Marcie: I never would have let you down on your wedding day, ever. Jen: Do you think any of those stupid sorority girls would have done that for anybody? Marcie: (shrugs) No. Jen: You know what? You are the first real friend I've ever had. Marcie: (nods with tears in her eyes) You, too. God, you know I'd do anything for you. Jen: I'd do anything for you, too. They hug. Madison of all people shows up at Jen’s door. She peeks in then knocks. When Jen opens the door she appears surprised to see her. Marcie stays out of sight. Maddi-evil: I thought you were on your honeymoon. Jen: Then what are you doing here? Maddi-evil: Dropping off this Sig Delt sweatshirt. We were hoping you'd reconsider pledging. Jen: Well, I'm kind of busy right now. (pauses and looks at the sweatshirt in her hand) But you know what? Since you came all this way, I mean, maybe I'll think about it. Marcie, who is listening, frowns. Jen: I've always loved the Sigma Delt house -- great parties. Maddi-evil: Great. Ok, I'll call you. Jen: Bye. Maddi-evil: Bye. Maddi-evil leaves and Marcie approaches Jen slowly. Marcie: Jen? How could even consider rushing the Sigma Delta Delta house? Jen: (with evil grin on her face) Take a guess.
