MARCAL SCENES PAGE 27
Scene 32 Goodbye & Forever
Friday, September 26, 2003 Al's voice: Hey there, boys and girls. Hot enough for you? This summer's a
scorcher. But, hey, life's short. You take what you can get. In the end, it's
all great, especially if you've found someone to love. Adriana rushes up to River. Adriana: River, I’m so sorry. It took forever to get away. River: I recorded a lot of Al's shows last summer. Adriana: I still can't believe that he's gone. River: I didn't really know him very well, but every time that you couldn't get out, you were sort of in lockdown or whatever, I’d listen to him and he'd make it sort of better.
Max walks into Foxy Roxy’s. Roxy: Well, Maximilian, you couldn't resist. Now, you plunk your butt right in that chair. I can't wait to get my hands on that delicious hair of yours. Max: Bad idea. Roxy: Why? Max: I -- for some reason, I thought it might help seeing you. I’m sorry. Roxy: Whoa. Are you in trouble? You're in a hole that's real deep, and it's about gambling, isn't it? Max: It's Al. He's gone.
Back in Angel Square, Adriana tries to comfort River. Adriana: You know, Al may be gone, but I’m still here to help you. River: What’s going to help Al? Who's going to walk him over to the other side?
At Jen and Joey’s, Marcie is upset. Joey: What is it? Marcie: Deke and Madison. They got away with the charges. They got them dropped. Something about inadmissible evidence or something, I don't know. Joey: Well, so they're just going to walk? Marcie: They threw me in a dumpster, I got sick, made Al sick, he died, and they are getting away with it! It's all their fault! They're walking free! Joey: God, Marcie, I am so sorry. Marcie: They're just -- they're evil. They're hateful people. But I guess when you have, you know, rich parents and a bigtime lawyer, then you can actually get away with murder. Joey: Marcie, I know you want justice, but sometimes it comes in strange ways. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will come. You have to believe that. The door bell rings. Joey: Excuse me. Joey: Kelly. Kelly: Hi. Joey: Come in. Kelly: All right. Joey: What's going on? Kelly: Thought I’d give you the news in person. Nothing like a messenger with good news, right? Joey: What is it? Kelly: Oh, everything's great. Kevin and I are back on track. And actually we're even better than we were before. And if the way I’m feeling is any indication, I would swear I am carrying his baby. At Foxy Roxy’s, Roxy tries to make Max feel better. Roxy: So Al's gone. He skipped town. He probably took Marcie with him. And he left his big daddy all alone in the big city. What do you mean, Al's gone? Max: His liver failed. He had an operation, and he didn't survive. Roxy: Oh, God, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. Legs and I didn't get along at first, but -- it took a while, but legs -- that's what I used to call him, "legs." Oh, God.
Back in Angel Square, River and Adriana continue to listen to the tape of Al’s show. Al's voice: You can't beat music like that when you're feeling sad, can you? But you know what? I've decided feeling sad sucks -- too much energy. There's always a bright side. There's always a tomorrow. Well, almost. River: It's a show from July. Marcie walks up. Marcie: Incredible, wasn't he? But now he's gone. This is all wrong, but no one wants to make it right. Adriana: We do. River: Marcie, if there's anything you want us to do, we'll do it. Marcie: He's dead. The people who did this are never going to be held responsible. That's just wrong. Marcie rushes away. River: Wait, Marcie -- Adriana: Where are you going? River: Marcie -- oh, man, we got to do something. We got to do something that Al would do. Remember how he lit up the night for everybody? Adriana: How do we do that? River: Wait. Hey, can you sneak out tonight? Adriana: Tonight? I don't think so. I mean, if Carlotta wasn't so upset about Antonio, I don't think I would be able to get out this afternoon.
Adriana is at the bench alone, listening to the radio. D.J.: Another cool one for a cool afternoon. Hey, I've got a guy named River Carpenter sitting here next to me, and he's got an announcement. Go, bro. River: Thanks, Sandy. Listen up, everybody. Tonight at Angel Square, let's all get together and honor Al Holden. He was the Voice of the Night. Get there -- Carlotta walks up and turns off radio. Carlotta: Where did you get that expensive radio? Adriana: I -- um -- it's not mine. It's River Carpenter's. Carlotta: Did you see him today? Adriana: No. I -- I was at Foxy Roxy's, and she said he left this for me, if I wanted it. I wasn't -- Carlotta: Has anyone tried to talk to you today? Adriana: No. Carlotta: No one at all? Adriana: No. Carlotta: Listen to me. If anyone tries to talk to you about Antonio or about anything that's happened, you just tell them to leave you alone and don't say anything. Is that clear? Adriana: Yes, Godmother. Carlotta: I want you to swear to me. Adriana: I swear I won't talk to anyone about Antonio. Carlotta leaves and Adriana turns on radio. River: So I’ll see you all there tonight. Let's give the Voice what he gave us.
Note: The scenes shift between what is happening at Antonio’s trial and Marcie talking to the Luna statue. Bailiff: All rise. Superior Court of Llantano County is now in session, the honorable Denise Shriver presiding. Judge: Be seated. Mr. Colson. Ms. Williamson. Daniel: Good afternoon. Evangeline: Good afternoon, Your Honor. Judge: Ms. Williamson, have you instructed your client that this is a preliminary hearing, that only prosecution witnesses will be called, and that you may only cross-examine them? Evangeline: I have, your honor, and he understands. Judge: Good. Mr. Colson? Daniel: Thank you, your honor. Today I intend to present evidence to convince this court that Keri Reynolds was murdered. She did not accidentally fall off her hotel balcony. She did not jump. She was callously and maliciously pushed to her death by Antonio Vega. Marcie: There's never going to be any justice for Al, is there? Daniel: In order to achieve justice, the prosecution will prove that a man -- this man, desperate to have custody of his child -- acted ruthlessly, with premeditation, and murdered that child's mother. For that crime, the commonwealth will ask for a charge of murder in the first degree. Marcie: Where's the justice? Can you tell me that? Can you?
At Jen and Joey’s, Joey tells Jen the news about River’s plan. Joey: They want to have a candlelight vigil for Al down at Angel Square. Isn't that a great idea? Jen: I've got another great idea. Joey: Hey. Jen: You know, from what I remember, we really know how to make each other happy. Joe, I want to make you happy so bad. Joey: You do. And I love you, and I want to make love to you. It's just now isn't the time. When somebody like Al dies, there's a lot of people depending on me to give them comfort. Jen: Comfort. Joey: Comfort. Jen: Yeah. OK. Well, I guess I should wear more than a raincoat and this to Al's vigil tonight. Joey: Hey, I’m sorry... please don't feel bad. Jen: I’m sure Kelly thinks I am. Joey: No way. Listen, you have to realize that I can't always be available to you, even though I want to. OK? It's just part of being a minister. Jen: I know. No problem. I just -- I’m just going to have to have my own life.
At Foxy Roxy’s, Roxy and Max are sitting at dryer stations next to each other. The phone rings. Roxy's voice: You've reached the honey of hair, Roxy Balsom, so leave me a sexy message. The answering machine beeps. Roxy: Your dogs tired? Max: Oh, yeah. Roxy: So, what about Gabrielle? Max: She'll be out of the hospital in time for the funeral. Roxy: That's good. Max: You know, he really got to like you. Roxy: I liked him, too. Max: I know. Roxy: I’m no good with this comfort thing. Max: Hey, hey. You are. You took your whole afternoon to keep me walking and talking. What did we walk today, 20 miles? Roxy: At least. You know, I mean, I tried. I think it's Luna you need when you get into trouble sometimes, right? Max: Pretty much. But I can't tell you how much -- how much it meant, all this, today. Roxy: Anytime. Max: I think I’m going to sit by the statue in Angel Square. Roxy: And do what? Max: That statue -- maybe you didn't know this, but it was modeled after Luna.
A crowd has gathered in Angel Square. Flash approaches Marcie. Flash: Marcie? We're all here to honor Al. Everybody's here. Marcie: Thank you. Max: Marcie? What is this? What's going on? Marcie: These people are here to remember Al. Here. Does everyone have candles? I want to make sure that everybody has one. Max looks sad. Luna comes up behind him. Luna: It's going to be all right, Max.
Nigel walks into Foxy Roxy’s. Nigel: You're still here. Roxy: Yeah, I’m just circling the drain. I don't have anyplace better to go. What are you doing here? Nigel: There was a radio announcement about master Al being honored tonight. I wanted to show my respects and possibly see you. Roxy: Yeah? Nigel: I was terribly fond of Master Al. Roxy: Oh, God, tell me about it. Nigel: Do you have two candles?
Back in Angel Square, Luna tries to give Max some comfort. Luna: This is beautiful, Max. Look at it. You have to look at it. Adriana: I remember the Voice of the Night saying this song was very special to him. River: That's good. Are you sure you're not going to get in trouble for sneaking out tonight? Adriana: I had to do this. Joey and Jen walk up to Marcie. Joey: Hey, Marcie. Marcie: Hi. Joey: This is -- this is beautiful. Marcie: Yeah. Joe, I wanted to thank you about before about what you said about justice coming in different ways. It really does. Rex eases up behind Jen. Rex: Hey. You want to blow this place, go to a party? My friend Karen is giving it. Jen: I’m busy. Rex: Really? Well, I know you'd love to see how she really lives, and her friends. They have a great time every day. You'd fit right in. Jen: Go bother somebody else. Cris gets in Rex’s face. Cristian: I heard you went out of your way to testify against my brother. Rex: Me? Don't you know who buried your brother? Try Jessica Buchanan. Note: The scene once again shifts between the trial and the scene at Angel Square. Daniel: We have an open-and-shut case. Keri Reynolds was afraid of Antonio Vega. She planned to flee to escape his violent temper, but he caught up with her before she had the chance, and her life was snuffed out by the father of her child, Antonio Vega. Marcie stands on the wall that encircles the Luna statue. Marcie: Thank you for coming. Luna: You did everything a father could for Al. Gabrielle did, too. Max: How do I take care of him now, Luna? Marcie: Excuse me, everybody? I want to thank River Carpenter for making tonight so special. Al would have been so proud. River, I wasn't sure if I could go on before you did this. Especially when I heard that the people that caused Al to get sick were never going to be punished. But it's the love that's here tonight that's going to keep him alive, and that is more powerful than anything. Even if evil sometimes doesn't get punished, there's always something stronger, something better. And that is here tonight in all of you. Daniel: Because of the nature of the crime, the cold-blooded ruthlessness in which it was carried out, I’m going to ask that Antonio Vega receive the penalty of death by lethal injection. Marcie: Justice won't bring Al back, but this keeps him with us. Knowing that the Voice will be loved by people forever in their hearts. And that is true love, peace, and justice. It's Al's voice ringing out loud and clear and bright in the darkness. We love you, Al. All: We love you, Al! Joey: God bless you, buddy. Luna: Max, I can see Al everywhere here tonight. He's in your eyes. I can -- I can see him crossing over. He's coming toward me. He's going to be fine, honey. Don't you worry. Max: Luna? Tell him I love him. Luna: He knows. He's always going to know that. Monday, September 29, 2003 In the sanctuary at St. James, Bo nudges Gabrielle. Bo: How you holding up? Gabrielle: I’m so glad you're here. Bo: I’m not going anywhere. Ever. Joey walks up to Marcie and Ron. Joey: Hey. Marcie: Hi. Thanks, Joe, for taking care of everything. Ron: Including my sister. Joey: Jen and I are here for you. Anything you need. Ron: It's been nice of Joe and Jen to take you in, but I think you should be with family, Marce. Marcie: I can't leave. Ron: Take a break. I mean, classes can wait. The job can wait. Marcie: Al's here. I want to stay close. In the sanctuary, Max and Gabrielle are talking. Marcie walks over to them and Ron follows her. Max: The tickets are all set for our flight to Argentina. They said we could take Al's body in the same plane. Marcie: You're taking Al away?
Out in the vestibule of St. James, Riley reads a clipping to Flash. Riley: Here it is. "Midnight Logic was a logical choice to fill in at Cobra Club in Philadelphia last night. Fronted by lead singer Flash, they rocked the house. It won't be long before somebody's opening up for them." Flash: Let me see that. Riley: They even quote you, what you said about Al. Flash: He should have been around here to see this. Back in the sanctuary, Gabrielle and Max try to explain their decision to Marcie. Gabrielle: Marcie, Al was born in Argentina, and all of my family are buried there. Max: And he loved it when we visited Argentina. Gabrielle: So, naturally, we thought -- but we weren't thinking of you. I’m so sorry. Max: Yeah, we're both sorry. Marcie: It's OK. Gabrielle: Why don't you come with us to Argentina? Max: Yeah, we'll foot the bill. You won't have to worry about anything. Ron: I don't -- Marcie: No, no. Ronnie, it's OK. It's all right. You know what, Al's spirit is here, and that's where it'll always be for me. Thank you, though.
Natalie and Cris walk into the church. Joey and Jen greet them. Joey: Nat, Cris. I’m glad you guys could make it. Natalie: What? Jen: I’m just surprised, after everything that went down between Al and you guys. Natalie: Yeah, well, you, too. Jen: Al and I had put that behind us. Cristian: Well, that's what we're doing, too. Natalie: All of it.
Bo sits next to Gabrielle. Bo: I’m going to Argentina with you. Gabrielle: You know you can't do that. Bo: Hey, I deserve a little break from work. Gabrielle: That means more to me than I could ever tell you. Bo: Somebody else can run the department for a little while. Gabrielle: You need to be here for Antonio, I think, don't you? Bo: I need to be with you. Gabrielle: Max will be with me. You know what? Perhaps it's something that we should do on our own, just as Al's parents.
Renee rushes over to Max. Renee: Come to me, Max. If anybody knows what you're going through, it's me. Max: I keep thinking he's going to walk around the corner, pop out, hit me up for some money. You know, harass me about my taste in music. What I wouldn't give -- Renee: You're like family to me, Max. You always have been. So please lean on me and lean on your friends. That's what we're here for.
Out in the vestibule, a number of people circle around Flash. Woman: Flash? Flash: Yeah? Woman: I was at your show in Philly last night. You guys, it's Flash. Can I have your autograph? Riley: Hey, hey, this is not cool right now, OK? Woman: You're the guitar player! Flash: How'd you guys know we were going to be here? Joey rushes over to the throng. Joey: Hey, hey, hey, hey. What's going on here? The Midnight Logic fans squeal and jump up and down. Joey: Hey, hey, come on, come on! Break it up, break it up! This is not a concert. This is a funeral. Flash: I know. And that's why they're all here. Because of Al, the Voice of the Night. And let's keep it like that, OK, guys? Because if it weren't for Al, you would've never even heard of Midnight Logic. Joey: OK, let's just all go in and please take a seat. Flash: And I want you to go home after the service, and I want you to turn on your music and listen to your favorite song that you heard on Al's show and blast it really loud so he can hear. And know that you're listening to him, OK? Joey: Hey, Al would have liked that. Flash: Hey, let's go inside. Riley: You get a seat. I’ll be right there. Man: Uh, maybe this will take the edge off. Riley: No, thanks. I couldn't do that to Al. Joey escorts Flash and Riley into the sanctuary. Joey: First brush with fame? Flash: A little bit. Joey: Get used to it. Flash: C.J. should've been here for this. Joey: Yeah. Did you call him? Flash: Yeah. Navy brass shut me down, and even Asa tried to call. Joey: That's too bad. He should be here for his buddy. Flash: Al would have liked it, too. Jessica walks in and Cris approaches her. Cristian: Hey, Jess. Is my brother here? Jessica: No, no. He didn't want to disrupt things. The press is all over him, you know. Cristian: How's he doing? Jessica: Oh, he's OK. The ceremony starts. Joey stands behind the altar. Joey: Let us pray. Dear Lord, you have been our refuge from one generation to another. You've been a light in the darkness – Joey: For thou art God everlasting and world without end. When a young life leaves us, it doesn't seem right, fair. It's as if everything is happening out of order. Life is supposed to be long and full. Children are supposed to outlive their parents. Max flashes back to a time when Al was a young boy: Max: What do you say I
teach you how to ride a horse, and we'll go out in the desert and sleep out
under the stars. Would you like that? Hmm? God, I wish this could be different.
I wish I could spend every moment with you. But I can't. And I can't stop you
from growing up. You weren't the one who was supposed to leave. Joey: But even a young life leaves a profound mark, and Al -- Al did much more than that. There isn't a single person here who wasn't touched by him, either as a family member, a friend, or one of his many fans. I happen to be all three. We all listened to the Voice of the Night for months without knowing who it was because Al wanted it that way so he could say the things that were on his mind, the things that were in his heart. He could say the things that he needed to say, the things that we needed to hear. As I look at his picture right now, he's telling me things I need to hear. He's saying, "I’m not really gone. I’m just in a better place." And I take comfort in that. And I hope that everyone who loves him and cares about him can take comfort in that, too. Marcie is crying but she looks over and sees Al sitting next to her. Marcie: Al? Al: Yeah. It's me, Marcie. They can't see me. Only you can. Marcie: What are you doing here? Al: Well, we didn't really get a chance to say goodbye, did we? Marcie: No. I’m sorry, this is too hard. Al: Marcie, I know. I was sent back here to help you. Jessica walks in front of the church and begins to give her tribute to Al. Jessica: Al -- Al was my best friend. We could always be really honest with each other, no matter what. I could always count on him. And now -- now I don't know what I’m going to do without him. Joey: OK. Thank you. Al: Don't cry, Marcie. Marcie: I can't help it. Al: I don't want anyone to cry when they think about me. Flash comes down front and makes her tribute to Al. Flash: Al would do things for you even when you didn't know it. Like when I was in the hospital and he played me singing while Midnight Logic played. That was Al. Then Riley. Riley: There was a time where he hit bottom, but he came back. And he made us all know that no matter what, we could find our way. Then, this. I don't know why this happened. Then Ron. Ron: I didn't know Al very long, but long enough to know what a great guy he was. He sure made my sister happy. I would've liked to have been friends with him, and I think we could've, too, if there had been more time. The Jen. Jen: Al and I ended up being friends, even after everything we'd been through. He was able to forgive because he believed in giving second chances. I just wish he'd been able to get one. Al: This isn't what I wanted at all. Marcie: But we love you so much. Al: Well, remember me that way. Remember when I was here, when we were together, how much fun we had. Remember the first time I took you rollerblading? Remember how much fun we had, right? When I got my grades back, how excited were we? And when we made love, I've never been so happy. I don't want to remembered with tears, OK? Marcie: OK. Al: That's how I want to be remembered. That beautiful smile of yours. Joey: Now if there's anybody else who wants to say something – Marcie rushes up to the front of the church. Marcie: I’m sorry! I’m sorry, but this is wrong. Al wouldn't have wanted this. You know, I know that everybody's really upset, and I am too, but he wouldn't have wanted this. I mean, he would have wanted everybody to be happy, and he would've wanted this place to rock. Joey: Go on. Marcie: He would have wanted you to remember some joke that he told or something that made you laugh. OK, you can laugh! So, can you remember him that way? Please? That's what he would want because I know that he's smiling at us all right now, wherever he is.
Marcie: I know that in the program it says that we're supposed to sing "Amazing Grace," but -- oh, I don't think so. So if it's OK with you, I’d like to sing one of Al's favorite songs. Yes? Riley positions himself behind her and plays the guitar. She sings the Goo Goo Dolls’s song, Iris: Marcie: (sings) And I’d give up forever to touch you 'cause I know that
you feel me somehow you're the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be and I don't
want to go home right now 'cause all I can taste is this moment and all I can
breathe is your life 'cause sooner or later it's over I just don't want to miss
you tonight and I don't want the world to see me 'cause I don't think that
they'd understand when everything's made to be broken I just want you to know
who I am Al walks in front of Gabrielle and touches her and for a second she feels something. He walks down the center aisle then turns and faces Marcie. He blows her a kiss, waves goodbye and then walks away fading into the light as she sings. Marcie: (sings) And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming and you
can't fight the truth in your lies when everything seems like the movies yeah,
you bleed just to know you're alive and I don't want the world to see me 'cause
I don't think that they'd understand when everything's made to be broken I just
want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to
know who I am I just want you to know who I am Tuesday, September 30, 2003 At the Banner office, there is a meeting going on in Kevin’s office. Jessica: I know that it's not too late to cancel the endorsement. Kevin: I’m not going to do that, Jess. Jessica: Don’t you care about Antonio? Kevin: Of course I do, and this paper's endorsement of Daniel Colson doesn't change that, all right? I don’t have to agree with everything the guy does. Jessica: This isn't a political point, Kevin, this is Antonio's life. But you wouldn't give a damn about that, now, would you? Kevin: Oh, come on. Viki walks in. Viki: Hello. What's going on? Jessica: Mom. You're back. Hi. Viki: Yeah. Kevin: Did you just get in? Viki: Yes, actually, I did. I came straight from the airport. Guess it's a good thing I did, huh? Gabrielle rushes in. Gabrielle: Oh. I’m so sorry that I’m late. Kevin: Oh, it's OK. The meeting hasn't started yet. Gabrielle: Oh, good. Viki: Gabrielle? How are you? Gabrielle: I’m -- I’m going to be fine, yeah. I’ll get through this. Viki: I can’t tell you how sorry I am about Al. I tried to get back for the funeral. My flight was canceled. Jessica: The service was so nice, Gabrielle, all of Al's friends saying such nice things about him. It was wonderful. Gabrielle: Thank you. Kevin? I’m sorry, I -- I don’t think it's going to be possible for me to make this meeting after all. I need to request some time off because Max and I are taking Al -- we're taking his body to Argentina for burial. Kevin: It's -- it's fine. You take all the time you need. Gabrielle: Thank you. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you so much for your flowers and such kind words for my son.
At Crossroads, Natalie approaches Max. Natalie: Max? Is there anything that you need? Max: No. Marcie is sitting at the bar and Bo approaches her. Bo: You were wonderful at the service, Marcie. I had no idea you had a such a great voice. Marcie: It was the song. It was one of our favorites. Bo: You know, it made Al's mom feel a lot better, I’m sure. Natalie: If there was just something we could do for Al's dad. Bo: You know, sometimes the best way to help people is to just leave them alone. Asa sits in the chair across from Max. Asa: Your son is dead, Max. You're not going to take that lying down, are you?
At the Banner, Gabrielle continues her conversation with Viki. Gabrielle: I am so sorry. Viki: Please, don’t apologize. Gabrielle: I -- I just thought I could handle this a lot better than -- than this. Viki: No one handles something like this very well. Gabrielle: Oh! Viki: Why don’t you come with me? Come on. They leave Kevin’s office. Gabrielle: I don’t know. I don’t know how I’m going to go on without him! Viki: You will, Gabrielle. Gabrielle: How? How do you -- how did you do it? Viki: It's not easy, because you really want to die yourself. Gabrielle: I wish to God it had been me. Viki: Well, I think God had another plan for you. Gabrielle: I’ll never understand what that is. Viki: Maybe not, but, you know, I do believe that there is a plan for all of us, at least there is a reason for living. Gabrielle: Viki, forgive me, but when you lost Megan, you had other children. You see, you were still needed. I’m not a parent anymore! Nobody needs me anymore! Viki: Gabrielle, Gabrielle, of course you're still a parent you are Al's mother. You always will be Al's mother. Honey, you raised him, you loved him and he will always, always be with you. And you have Bo. You're getting married. Bo loves you. He loves you very much. And -- and you do have friends. Oh. Gabrielle: Oh, Viki! Oh, I just want him back. I want him back so badly. Viki: I know you do. Oh, God, I know you do.
At Crossroads, Asa continues to try to comfort Max in his own way. Asa: You hear what I said? Max: What do you suggest I do, Asa, go find a voodoo doctor and raise him from the dead? Asa: How about suing the hospital? Max: Hmm. You're forgetting that you're on the hospital board. Asa: Oh, I’ll quit, but, first, I want to make sure that quack doctor who botched up Al's operation is booted out. Max: That doctor was the finest doctor available on the eastern seaboard. Al went into shock. Asa: Well, somebody should be made to pay for it. Max: Would that make you feel better? Asa: Wouldn't it you? He's your son. Max: I appreciate your caring. Asa: Thank you. Al was a good kid. Max: Yeah, he sure was. Asa: Natalie? A bottle of bourbon and two glasses. And don’t give me any flak, Max.
Viki hugs Gabrielle. Viki: Shh, shh, shh. Gabrielle: Oh, thank you. Viki: Shh. Gabrielle: I have to get over to Crossroads to meet Max. I -- I just don’t think I can drive. I’d better call a cab. Viki: No, no, no. No, gracious, no, I’m going to drive you. Gabrielle: Oh, no, no, no, it won't be necessary. It's OK. Viki: Gabrielle, please, please. Let me do this. OK? Come on, I’ll take you. Come on. Gabrielle: Viki -- Viki: What? I’m not going to take no for an answer. Gabrielle: I -- I just wanted to say thank you. Viki: You'll be OK. Come on.
Natalie brings Asa a bottle and glasses at the bar. He is sitting next to Marcie and Bo. Natalie: Here you go, Grandpa. Asa: Put it here. Join me, son? Bo: No, thanks, I’m doing good. Asa: How about you? Marcie: Oh, I don’t really drink, sir. Asa: Who are you? Bo: This is Marcie Walsh. This is Al's girlfriend. Asa: Oh. Marcie. Wait a minute. Marcie Walsh. Hell, I know you. Aren't you that little gal who started that fuss at the university about all those peace signs? Marcie: Yes, sir. Asa: That took grit, honey. You're going to do all right.
At Crossroads, Blair is now sitting in a booth with Max. Blair: To say I know how you feel -- Max: But you got your son back. And I’m glad you did, because there isn't anything I wouldn't do if I could have Al back right now. Blair: I wish I could do that for you. Max: Oh, I know. Blair: Is there anything that I can do, Max, anything at all? Max: You already are. Thank you. Blair: Well, I’m there for you, Max, no matter what happens, OK? Max: I -- I can’t even think of the future yet. Blair: It's out there for you, just waiting. Max: Well, maybe for you. Blair: I used to not think about it, I mean, especially after Todd. I didn't think I’d ever be happy again. Max: You do now? Blair: It could happen. Max: Something go down while I was away? Blair: Walker Laurence asked me to marry him. Max: And? What's it saying here? Blair: Oh, right here? It's telling me lots of things. Max: You need to have a little one-on-one with your heart. You listen to that, you'll never go wrong.
Viki and Gabrielle walk into Crossroads and rush over to Max. Viki: Oh, Max. I am so, so sorry. Max: Well, thank you. Viki: So sorry. Max: Thank you.
Bo walks over to Gabrielle and puts his arm around her. Bo: Was about to get worried about you. Gabrielle: I’m OK now. Viki. Bo: Yeah, Viki's something, isn't she? Gabrielle: I definitely wouldn't be here if she hadn't brought me here. Bo: Well I’m going to be here, too. I wanted to say goodbye and maybe squeeze in a little extra time before you go down to Argentina. Gabrielle: You didn't have to, Bo. Bo: Yeah. Yeah, I think I do. I’m going to start doing that from now on, you know, making sure there's extra time, because I think we've lost enough time together already. Gabrielle: It's OK. All right. Bo: No, no, it's not all right. I mean, all the dinners that I’ve missed, you know, the time we've been apart, canceled trips? And why? Because I had to work. I mean, come on. You deserve better than that. I’m sorry. Gabrielle: You don’t have to be sorry about anything. Bo: I found this. Somebody gave me this when I lost Drew, and I thought it was pretty stupid, really. It was a -- it was a book about how to deal with losing a child. Gabrielle: Mm-hmm. Bo: But I finally sat down and I read it, and it helped, at least a little bit. And it is a -- it's a long flight down there to Argentina. Gabrielle: Thank you. Thank you for everything.
Viki is sitting with Marcie. Viki: I’m just very, very sorry that Deke and Madison are not going to be charged. Marcie: Yeah. Al would -- he would still be here if it weren't for them. But even if they went to jail, that wouldn't bring him back. Nothing will. Viki: Marcie, honey, he'll always be with you, you know. Marcie: Yeah. Viki: Everything that you do, that you used to do with him, and all the places you used to go together, and in the light in your eyes whenever you think about him. Marcie: I loved him so much. Viki: I know you did. And you still do, don’t you? Marcie: I always will love him. Viki: And that's what's going to get you through this. I promise you that. It'll be OK. Marcie: Thank you, Mrs. Davidson. Viki: Sure.
Blair continues trying to comfort Max. Blair: So you going to be OK, Max? Max: Hey, aren't I always? Blair: Why don’t you call me when you get back? Max: Maybe there will be a wedding in the works. Blair: Take care. Max: Yeah. Thank you. Blair: Mm-hmm. Max: Thanks. Gabrielle walks over to Marcie and Viki. Gabrielle: Viki? I wanted to say thank you without bursting into tears and to thank you for everything you've done for me. Viki: You take care of yourself, Gabrielle, OK? Asa: The same goes for me, honey. Gabrielle: Oh, Asa. Thank you. Asa: Oh, you know what I felt about your son. Gabrielle: Yes. Yes.
Marcie joins Gabrielle, Max and Bo just as Gabrielle and Max get ready to leave. Marcie: You'll remember the single Gerber daisy, right? Max: I’ll be sure to put one on his grave for you. Marcie: That's what he always gave to me, a single Gerber daisy. Gabrielle: We are going to be thinking of you every minute and how happy you made our son. Marcie: Yeah. OK. Gabrielle: OK. Bo: Going to be real quiet around the house now. Gabrielle: I’ll miss you, too, really. Bo: Well, if you do, just look at this, OK, and then you'll know how much I’m thinking about you. Gabrielle: I love you so much. Bo: I love you, too.
