In 1997, a praise band was started for the Wednesday night and Sunday morning youth groups. Mike Ronstadt lead the group, but eventually gave the mic to Philip Cain and leadership responsibilites to Michael Hagedon (former rhythm guitarist). In Spring of 1998, Kurt Dresner (former keyboardist), Tyler Moss and Philip Cain hiked 21 miles in the Grand Canyon, and had a lot of time to think. They discovered the verse Acts 2:15 and the name 9am stuck. Michael Hagedon and Kurt Dresner both left for college, and Phil became the forefront (whether he liked it or not). Philip and Tyler began writing original music aside from the praise repetoire so that a demo could be made. In 1999, Mikey Ronstadt became a full-time member, and Bryan Matyjasic was discovered. 9am now had a fully student band, with Phil on guitar and vocals, Tyler playing lead, Pete Ronstadt playing bass, Mikey Ronstadt playing cello, and Bryan Matyjasic on the trap. The most recent member added is the wonderful Kristen Myklebust, an esteemed hand-percussionist. 9am is currently recording and doing local gigs around Tucson and Phoenix. They have appeared on shows like The Inside Track, and their music has been aired on a Christian radio station in Tucson, and a secular music station in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.
