Maneuvering room is where the boat's main propulsion control is conducted. The Main Propulsion Control Panel allows for all operations from one location by two operators. This control panel is interconnected to control equipment cubicles which do the actual switching of various contacts, controls, etc to make the necessary connections for proper lineup of the electric drive systems.

Main control panel in the Maneuvering Room. These panels came in two general versions. Shown is the integrated version where all the control switchgear, contractors, etc is contained in one unit. Another version was called a split arrangement and the control switching was wrapped around the front of the main board in a U shape.
| The Control Cubicles hold all the switching, relaying, speed control and other necessary connection type functions to make the overall control system work. The levers and controls on the Main Propulsion Control Panel front operate the controls in these cubicles either by direct mechanical linkage or relaying.

The control levels allow for starting the main drive motors, controling their speed and direction and where they get power from. As shown, the line-up is Forward, 2/3 bell on two diesel generators. Line-up is split with buss Tie connector open. In general the levers are interlocked so the correct operation can not be improperly done but a lot of training is still required as operator enduced damage is still possible. The sixth lever from the left allows for lining the battery up as independent or linked sources and for battery charging. | ||||||||||
