A little about me

I was born in Augusta, Georgia in Oct 1938 at home. I
attended public school thru the 8th grade. I was almost
as bright as some of today's teenagers so I thought
school was a waste of time and quit the day I turned the
magic age of 16. I learned as they will learn that was a
big mistake.

I had one brother and one sister and I did not set a
good example and unfortunately they followed my lead.
In Oct 1954 I turned 16 and lied to join the National Guard
and on my 17th birthday I joined the US Army and slowly
began to see the error of my ways. I realized that if I
were going to succeed in life that I would need an
education equal to or better than my peers, I did not
run right down and re-enroll however. It was in 1961 that
I finally got serious and completed my G E D and
received a diploma from the State Of Georgia.
Best move of my life up to that point....

As most human beings are prone to do, I continued to
make mistakes, smoking, drinking, broken marriages, too
many parties, infidelity, the one thing that I can swear I
never did was to experience drugs. I have never even had a
desire to try any un-prescribed drugs, I don't even take
prescription drugs the way I'm told to.

I got out of the army in 1964 and opened a couple of
night clubs in Aiken, South Carolina and was doing pretty
well, Then in 1968 I decided to remarry. My new  wife
gave me an ultimatum, either sell the clubs or revert
back to being single, and once again I made the
wrong choice. We moved to East Point, GA where I had a
series of minimum wage jobs before landing a good
one with J C Penny catalog Center in Forest Park, Ga.
where I stayed for a year. I quit there in April of 1970
and went back in the Army to finish my twenty. The
marriage lasted 8 years and I was back on the block.
While in the Guard I went thru the 250th AAA 90mm
artillery school at Ft Stewart, GA with my unit. After
joining the regular army I went to Ft Jackson, SC for
basic training and Ft. Gordon, GA for Military Police School
and served at Forts McPherson, Benning, Lewis, back to
Jackson and then to Germany where I served in Berlin,
Ludwigsburg, Darmstadt, and Hochest (I served three
tours in Germany). Taegu, Korea (1 tour 13 months)

I went thru the Drill Sergeant Academy at Ft Jackson
in 1970 and that's when I finally found out what life was all
about. I met and trained young men from every culture,
ethnicity, and religion known to man. Even though most
of them had enlisted, they had no idea of what they had
gotten themselves into, And it was my job to teach them
how to survive and get by in this old world and I took that
job very seriously.
In 1981 I retired and went to a technical college in
Anniston,  Alabama for four years and earned two degrees.
At this time Fort McClellan was about to hire 6 Dept of
Defense Police Officers so I applied for and got a position
as an AWOL Investigator/Civil Liaison Officer where I
stayed for three years and then became a Federal Deputy
Game Warden until I retired all the way in 1989 due to
medical reasons.

I wore a badge and carried a gun for twenty eight years
and I did it because I loved helping people and making a
difference. In closing I would simply ask people to respect
soldiers, police officers, and firefighters for the job they do.

As with every job including doctors, lawyers, bus drivers
soldiers, politicians, you name it, there are and always will
be crooked and self-serving police officers, they are
probably less than 1 percent of the entire fraternity and
will eventually be weeded out only to be replaced by
another crooked cop. If you encounter one of these
individuals don't try to handle it by going thru your local
police department, contact the appropriate state or
federal agency and your chances will be better. Just make
sure your brain is in motion before your mouth goes into gear
and have the proof before you take any action because
even the crooked cops are always willing to lay there life
on the line for us !

Remember, 99% of them are good decent hardworking people.
