11 July 1937              26 Nov 2002

I don't remember the exact date that I met Ed, I do remember
though that it was on the internet. He had visited my personal page and
attempted to sign my guest book but there was a mistake in the html and
the guest book wouldn't come up so being the perfectionist (and I say
that lightly) he sent me an e-mail to inform me of that fact and from that
point on we were friends.

We were both retired law enforcement officers although our
fields were different. He was always in civilian law enforcement and I was
mostly in the military and federal government.

He was  having problems with an old computer that he was
using and at that time I worked on computers and it seemed like everyday
he was complaining about that computer doing or most likely not doing
something that it should be and I kept telling him he needed to take it
to the shop and finally told him if he brought it to me that I would fix it
or give him another one that would work and it wouldn't cost him
anything except what he spent on the trip for food and gas.
Well to my surprise he accepted my offer and arrangements
were made for the visit. I will never  forget the first time we shook
hands at an old service station over on hi-way 19 here in Aiken
County, SC where I had gone to meet him and his wife Astrid and
escort them on out to my place which is in the country, My wife really
liked Astrid and they hit it off pretty well I think.
Over the next two or three days we really got to know each other.

I remember one time he told me he was trying to fix something on
his truck and that he had put a box beside it to stand on and I
told him to be careful or he could bust his butt or worse. Well a
few day's later I got an e-mail telling me what, you guessed it, the
box tipped over and he came down hard on the fender and bruised a rib.

Ed loved horses and his family and he loved meeting new
people and every once in a while he might agree with me on some
issue, but mind you it was not too often. I believe he really liked
living in TN and had made lots of friends there as well as on the
internet. He used to tell me that his day started with a cup of
coffee a cigarette and checking his e-mail.

We were both Titan fans and tried not to miss a game so
now when I watch a Titan game I know they have one angel fan!

Ed was indeed my best friend and I surely miss him.
