Proposed Team: Mme Corbucci, coordinator French dept; Mme Oliveira and Mme Carvas, teachers of English; Mme de Lara et M. Gomes, teacher and Coordinator Portuguese dept, M. Cloarec et Mme Flaquer, teacher and coordinator Spanish dept, information and documentation centre.

Classes involved: 11th, 10th, 9th and 8th grades.

Introduction and Aims:

“This is our Time” is an annual, global telecommunications project for secondary schools initiated for the UNESCO Associated Schools Project (ASP net). It also took part in Netdays2000. Time world headquarters at e-linQ, the Netherlands and regional home bases around the world support all participating schools (http://www.timeproject.org).Due to its multilingual and multicultural character and its active participation (translation of Time website into French by students with the help of teachers), the Lycée Pasteur was invited to become the home base for French-speaking countries.

"Dialogue between civilizations and "Year of the languages" are the chosen themes for 2001 Time Project. Several local actions are envisaged in the framework of this project. By integrating cultural and artistic education to new communication and information technology, these activities aim at:

Raise awareness on the importance of language learning, the wealth of cultural diversity and the problems that sometimes arise.

Link between Time project and francophonie:

- Lectures and round tables with several speakers on language learning/ bilingual and multilingual education.

- Thoughts on the impact of a language on cultural identity of the individual and on the community (9th, 10th and 11th graders).

- Information exchange with other countries participating in the project

For Time Project

- Africa – discovering French/English/Portuguese speaking countries

- America – Hispanic countries.

- Cultural aspects of these countries – native culture and the impact of a foreign language – for and against.

- Work on songs/texts/sites which illustrate the subject

- E-mail connections with different countries and students make/answer questionnaire on cultural characteristics, society and problems faced by them (9th and 10th graders)

- Dossier with all information gathered.

May (9th graders)

Lectures and contact with Guarani culture in Brazil (Mr Gomes project)

For Time project:

Raising awareness on the elements that form this culture. Compare and contrast/ debate.

10-day trip envisaged to an Indian tribe in the centre of Brazil

For Time Project:

Work on citizenship based on the respect for diversity of regional cultures and environmental issues affecting these regions. Thoughts on how students can have active participation in this realm.

Request for Support:

Financial

- 40 supplementary hours by semester (approximately 2,5 hours per week for the person responsible for the project: Mme Dieu

- 10 supplementary hours by semester for each teacher involved in the project: Mme Corbucci, M. Gomes, Mme de Lara, Mme Oliveira, Mme Carvas, Mme Flaquer, M. Cloarec.

Total: 220 hours throughout the year + 10 supplementary hours for lecturers

Material:

- Dreamweaver and Flash (to build site)

- Video-conference equipment

Teacher Training:

- 1 local training course for one person on how to use Dreamweaver and Flash. This person is responsible for passing on the information to other teachers and students

- training course on how to use new technologies in teaching/learning languages and how to prepare and assess interdisciplinary and intercultural projects.
