Clive Barker - Imajica
I'm awestruck with Barker. All his previous works are good, but "Imajica" alone stands as his masterpiece.
Compared with this one, "Weaveworld" is just a glimpse of what Barker can do. "Imajica" is a relentless journey through
the different levels that Barker has invented, the Dominions. It begins quietly, so the reader won't expect every surprising
turn. After four hundred pages, you will look back to literally another world. The characters, as the novel goes on, rises
from one level to the next one, at first, like mere mortals to finish in the immortality of glory or of a deity. And the
Imajica, the ultimate dream, the union of the Dominions, may not be a dream at all, and instead it may become an endless
nightmare...
As we know from previous Barker works, countless characters will appear, all of them with an important role,
no matter how small. Like the opening lines say, it will all end in a well defined trinity, consuming itself again and
again, until just one, the unity, remains, but at the same time, stands as an endless story.
It is really hard to express how I feel about this story. Its greatness can't be summarized in a few paragraphs.
I think Barker has reached a level of creativity rarely seen before in the last decades.
