Background/History:
Eons ago, in another part of the galaxy, a doomsday weapon was created to stop a
evil empire from taking over all the known universes. The weapon, a jeweled
scepter, was called the Preserver because it’s purpose was to preserve peace.
When the threat was over, the scepter was broken down into pieces. The scepter,
the large capstone gem, and the four smaller gems that fit into the sides were
split up and given to different worlds for safekeeping. The four gems were
different colors and each had control of a different aspect of reality, the
capstone which had shards of the others merged them together when placed in the
scepter creating a huge cosmic power pool. To make it as hard as possible to
assemble the weapon, the four gems life linked to their owner. The only way to
get the gems together in the scepter would be to take them away from the current
holder which would sacrifice their life. In the modern days, the pieces have
resurfaced, though the legends were mostly forgotten, two villains understood
the power. The evil, would-be galactic conqueror named Starmaster discovered the
scepter. The capstone had been placed on the earth and had been used by Dr.
Merlin and is currently used by Gem Girl. Dark Mace discovered the blue gem that
controls matter while robbing a tomb on a distant planet, deciphering the
carvings led her to believe she could rebuild the Preserver. She defeated the
red gem holder and added it to her own giving her the power over change and
transformation. The two together have an affinity for the other two which led
her to battle Starburst, an giant amoeba-like creature who used the energy
controlling yellow gem for good. She slew Starburst, but the creature was able
to propel the gem into deep space before she could take it. The yellow gem found
it’s way to earth, as well, eventually ending up with the hero, Prism. The
remaining gem, the green one that controlled life energies, had been lost in a
spaceship wreck thousands of years ago. A piece of debris drifting through space
until it hit the Earth’s atmosphere, the heat of entry burned away the shell
and the gem crashed into the ground, near Philadelphia. A drifter saw it land,
fearing it was too hot to touch, he picked it up with the coonskin cap he wore,
and took it to the police. In an attempt to humor the man, the desk sergeant
took the hat and placed it in the evidence room. The next morning, there was a
live raccoon playing with the gem and no hat to be found. Realizing that this
was very odd, the police contacted the Attack Legion and Destructoid took the
gem back to their headquarters. Tired of living as a robot, he thought that if
the gem could regenerate a raccoon, perhaps if he put it in contact with his
living brain tissue, it might grow him a new body. He was partially correct. The
next morning, the team was greeted by a young Denton Moore as he looked before
becoming Destructoid. That evening, Destructoid woke up, thinking that the gem
had failed. The gem grew a new body based on the tissue, but not around the
brain. As the cloning process took place, Kirk Lynch was in an ambulance
receiving electric shock to restart his heart after an automobile accident. As
his soul came free of his dying body, it was drawn as though it were caught by a
vacuum to the soulless cloned body. Although at first accessing the physical
memories of Moore, as time passed, he remembered who he truly had been. With
little choice in the matter as his previous life had ended, Kirk Lynch was dead
and buried before his memories had returned, he decided to use his powers for
good with the Attack Legion and took the codename New Man. As his control over
his powers grew and the tension between Destructoid and him lessened, he figured
out a way to use the gem to create a new body for Destructoid and to link his
astral form to the armor, finally accomplishing what Denton had attempted in the
first place.
Personality/Motivations:
When not super-heroing, he tries to use his powers to heal the sick, but he
realizes that there are limitations to what he can do. Raising the dead being
beyond his abilities, he has a realistic approach to what he can and should do.
Seeing his abilities as a blessing and his new lease on life as a gift, he tries
to be worthy of them both.
Quote: Enjoy the time you have on this Earth. Not everybody gets a second
chance in life.
