Keeper of Infinite Earths - Covenant
Created by Matt Parmenter

Ankh
Alter Ego: Nuru / Jaimie Beales
Occupation: Sorceress
Known Relatives: None
Group Affiliation: The Covenant
Base of Operations: Salem, Massachusetts
Background/History:
In the days of the Pharaohs when the gods of Egypt walked the earth, Nuru was
granted mystical powers by use of a golden ankh and became the mystical guardian
of the land dedicated to battling evil in all of its forms. The source of her
power became a symbol so powerful that she became referred to as Ankh herself.
Ammon, son of an Egyptian woman and a Norseman, was her boyfriend and the
fair-haired warrior often fought evil by her side. Their worst foe was the
crocodile-headed god of evil, Kobel. Only able to imprison the powerful Kobel,
they knew eventually he would find a way to free himself, so Anhk was placed in
suspended animation in a sarcophagus against the day he would rise again.
Unknown to Anhk, Ammon followed her in suspended animation, unable to live
without her. The tomb was silent for thousands of years. Then, in the late 1980’s,
the Master detected a strange malevolent mystical energy surge in Egypt and sent
the Covenant team to investigate. Kobel had finally succeeded in freeing himself
and the team arrived as he was preparing to slay his sleeping ancient foe.
Together with Anhk, they fought him and he fled to plot evil anew. During the
initial battle, Kobel mistook Apparition for Ammon and split most of his effort
trying to kill Anhk and Apparition. Reminded of his old foes, he set about
discovering what had happened during his long imprisonment and found that Ammon
had been buried near the tomb he had been in. He found the still slumbering hero
and killed him so he could take his place. Staging a resurrection similar to his
own, the Covenant once again retuned to Egypt to investigate another surge of
energy and found Kobel shapeshifted into the form of Ammon. Anhk and Apparition
had become romantically linked and the return of her lost love was quite a
shock. Torn between her happiness at Ammon’s return and her conflicting
emotions for her current love, she was vulnerable to Kobel’s ruse. Apparition,
on the other hand, was distrustful of "Ammon" but was unsure if it was
jealousy or something more sinister. Kobel overplayed his hand and revealed
himself in a gambit involving most of the magically powered heroes being
sacrificed to an Elder God. His failure was punished by him being turned into a
statue and crumbled to dust. Now, as in the distant past, Ankh continues her
battle against the forces of evil partnered with the Covenant.
Personality/Motivation:
Having been a hero in olden times, Anhk simply picked up where she left off. The
main difference being that the world she knew was long gone and the modern Egypt
held no great attraction for her. So, she chose to learn about the present from
and to fight the good fight with the Covenant defending the entire world from
evil.
