Keeper of Infinite Earths - Covenant

Created by Eric Doyle & Bob Justice

Manitou
Alter Ego: n/a
Occupation: Shaman
Known Relatives: None
Group Affiliation: The Covenant
Base of Operations: Salem, Massachusetts

Background/History:
He was born to a tribe of Blackfoot Indians in the early 1800’s. Dwarven at birth and considered cursed, Manitou was cast out of the tribal village and left to die. Inside his misshapen form was a rare natural magician who could manipulate mystical energies without the need to invoke names of power or use other external tools. The Master sensed his power and sent an agent to find him. Raised by the Master, he learned to use his gifts for good purposes and eventually returned to his tribe as their shaman. He defended the American West against mystical threats and defeated the evil, murderous Big Red McAllister imprisoning him for years. He fell in battle to an evil Indian Snake God’s venom, defeating his plans, but ending up in a coma-like healing trance for over 100 years. Upon his awakening, the Master had him join with the Covenant to continue defending the world against black magic.

Personality/Motivation:
Somewhat embittered by his banishment and the less than enthusiastic acceptance of his people when he returned with his powers, Manitou is not overly fond of people. He is motivated more by his debt to the Master and his commitment to do what’s right than a love of humanity. He is generally quiet and contemplative, but very blunt and rather impatient with non-practitioners of the mystic arts.

Quote: "Leave me be and I’ll do what must be done."
