Keeper of Infinite Earths - Freedom Brigade
Created by Matt Parmenter
Crawler
Alter Ego: Hans Wagner
Occupation: Spy / Super Hero / Trainer
Known Relatives: Franz Wagner (Crawler 2), Brother Deceased
Group Affiliation: Freedom Brigade
Base of Operations: Los Angeles, CA
Status: Retired
Background/History:
Hans was born in East Germany, but in his early teens, his family decided to
escape oppression and go to West Germany. Their attempt was only partially
successful because their father sacrificed himself to get his family across the
border. Once in the west, Hans was inspired by the tales of heroes who fought
against all odds for freedom and justice. He trained his mind and his body to
near physical perfection learning various martial arts styles to become a hero,
not a flashy publicity seeker, but more an undercover spy-type. His brother used
his inventive skills to create various weapons and gadgets to assist him. He
operated as a super-spy through the Cold War years, not to particularly aid one
side or the other, but to safeguard innocent lives against their being made
pawns in a political chess game. After the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War
ended, he retired. When the UN started their ill-fated FORCE SH team, Franz took
his elder brother’s code-name, Crawler, and became a more traditional style
hero. Unfortunately, that team met their doom at the hands of Baal and Hans put
on the costume aiding the super-heroes in the defeat of Baal to avenge his
brother. He continued as a superhero for a short time, then he retired again,
deciding to work with the Freedom Brigade as a trainer to help them and use his
years of experience.
Personality/Motivation:
Surprisingly pleasant considering his past, Crawler has the attitude of a man
who is satisfied with the course his life took and the fact that he did the best
he could do to be a man his father would be proud of. He has the grandfatherly
role with the team, able to put most everything in it’s proper perspective and
everyone in their proper place when necessary.
