Background/History:
Jason’s parents were survivors of the Great Depression and became very accustomed to hard work. When they knew they were having a child, they knuckled down and began building a future for themselves by taking any jobs that they could. Jason, Sr. worked in construction and did custodial jobs at night. Marie baked pastries, mended and washed clothes, cleaned houses, and everything she could think of to create a secure future for their child. They scrimped and scraped by to have the money to give Junior a good education. When he was 12, his father got a job as handyman and security for Museum of Man and the boy was hooked. All he wanted was to be an archeologist and study ancient history. The proud parents helped him pay his way through college and got him an apprentice position with the Museum which allowed him to travel the world. On a dig in Peru, he had to drive the pickup truck down a goat path of a road down a mountainside to get supplies. A torrential rainstorm struck and caused a huge landslide. His truck slid down the mountain like a surfboard riding a wave. When it stopped, he had slammed into a small stone pyramid that was like nothing he’d ever seen. It appeared to be a scale model of the typical Mayan pyramid, but it was only fourteen feet tall. His curiosity piqued, his truck ruined, and no other shelter available, he began chipping away at the blocks to get inside. When he succeeded, he crawled into a simple burial chamber, his torch revealed no riches, only wall paintings, a skeleton, and a robe that appeared to be decorated with wings. The paintings told a strange story of ancient gods, some he recognized, others he had no clue on. There were various Egyptian animal headed beings, Hindu style, American Indian style, and Aztec/Mayan. The pictures seemed to show an argument between the gods over human sacrifices that culminated in an eagle-headed figure being attacked by some of the others, bloody wounds being inflicted on him, and him being cast down to earth, beaten and broken. It showed people (worshipers?) taking him in to a building (temple?) and tending his wounds having laid him on what appeared to be the robe. Then, the pictures showed the robe empty and the people crying. Then, they appeared to be angry after praying leading him to believe their prayers were not answered and they had grown to hate the eagle-god for abandoning them. They abandoned the village leaving one lone man who had, according to the rough painting, donned the robe and single-handedly built the pyramid around himself. It was presumably his skeleton on the floor. Jason was fascinated by the story and the odd pictures that clearly depicted the old man lifting the huge stone blocks in place by hand. He dusted off the robe and put it on, like the man in the picture. Suddenly, he felt odd and things began to happen all at once. His senses seemed to come to life, he felt stronger and moved quicker than he’d ever imagined, and the robe no longer seemed to be decorated with wings, it felt like it was a set of wings. He easily pushed the stones away to make the opening larger and he walked out. As soon as he saw the sky, he was drawn up and flew. He packaged up the robe and got help. He showed everyone the pyramid, but omitted the mention of the robe. When he returned home, he practiced with the wings and found that he was very fast and very agile with them. Inspired by the comics of his youth and the heroes of WW 2, he became known as Eagle and gained quite a reputation as a hero in the South. Tired of bruising his knuckles, he cast a copy of a mace from the ancient weapon exhibit to use since the swords he recalled from Flash Gordon’s Hawk-Men were far too deadly. When the Circle of Justice moved to Atlanta, they asked him to join and he did, remaining with the team until it disbanded and he retired to become curator of the museum placing the robe in storage until the day it becomes needed again.

Personality/Motivations:
Learning the virtue of hard work from his parents, Jason gives everything he does his all. Sometimes, his single mindedness is a bit of a disadvantage as he has a tendency to be very direct. His fascination with history makes him more comfortable with a book than with a crowd, but he generally is a nice guy, just a little intense. Using his powers for good was never a question for him, he simply would have never thought of anything else to do with them.
