Editors' Corner

Wow. I've never done one of these before. The mind boggles.

Hah.

According to the other editor, who has apparently wiggled out of doing this, editorials are supposed to say why the fanzine was created, explain this month's topic, and other such things. Being the yutz that I am, I'll take her word for it.

This fanzine was started simply because I felt like it. I am no longer on the FYML and miss the discussions that were generated by it. At least, the dicussions that I remember there back in '97. Of course, I could be just remembering things with a gold gilt that weren't really there. I just think they were, and I miss them. It was tons of fun.

I've been on and off the FYML since then and finally took myself off totally early this year. I just couldn't take the bland conversations, the newbies (sorry), the dinos (heh), and other such things that just make the MLs lose that glowing, fuzzy feeling in my eyes. Ergo, the 'zine developed.

As I stated before, I miss the conversations on the ML; however, I don't miss the flames that can be generated by those conversations. Lots of things set people off: the topic of yaoi, couples (who's-a-couple, who's-not-a-couple), is Yui a witch with a 'B'?, etc. Not only does it set people off, but the people who have been on FY for a while (*cough* dinos) do not seem to have a lot of patience with those who start these discussions time and time again.

There's nothing wrong with bringing up an old subject. What's wrong with it is saying the same things against or in defense of the subject. I suspect that's what makes so many dinos tired of the same discussions because rarely do people bring up fresh, squeaky clean ideas. The majority of the time, it is fangirl/boy ranting that is used to defend the favored character, and that is rather annoying.

As much as I love surfing through link lists of FY pages, I'm so tired of seeing character descriptions that list a character's positive quality as being their hair color. I mean, surely you can take the analysis a bit further?

That's the main reason why this webzine was created (and why this month's topic is the shichi seishi). I want to see ideas, thoughts, and opinions and I want to see them clearly and coherently explained. I want to see them without seeing resulting flames tossed around publically on MLs. I want people to know that the followers of FY aren't doing it simply for the pretty people and that we have more to our brains than the ability to color code the shichi seishi.

And most of all, I want to have fun.

That wasn't a rant, was it? I said I'd try not to rant....
