Ling was part of an elite squad of
genetically-engineered soldiers. All of the embryos were genetically-altered using recombinant animal DNA to give them certain abilities. She was created in Vividyne Labs and implanted into a surrogate host in Gillette Wyoming as part of Project: XXXX. The goal of Project: XXXX was to create the perfect soldier. Why send in 100 soldiers and lose 10, when you can send in 10 and lose none. Upon birth, all of the XXXX children were initiated into a military lifestyle. Discipline, Teamwork, and Loyalty were drilled into their heads, just as the ability to kill a man is trained into their bodies. They lived in barracks, performed daily live-fire drills and were trained in the most lethal hand-to-hand combat techniques. As part of their learning criteria, the children were also taught to use communications equipment, perform mechanical repairs and field medic training was always a must. The children were also subjected to torturous experiments to test their limits. They were held under water to test for lung capacity, their bones were broken to test for healing abilities, and they were constantly put through a barrage of mental exams. One March night in 2009, several of the children came to aid of one their sisters being beaten and were forced to defend themselves. As they made their way to the corridor, the eldest sister was shot and killed and they decided to leave XXXX for good. 12 children escaped into the night, never to look back again. They scattered across the country and keep in minimal contact with one another. She survived on the streets for awhile until she was shuffled through the child welfare system, but she kept running away and turning up in a new state. Sometimes, Ling earned a living as a cat-burglar and petty thievery. At some point, her life brought her to Monterey, California where she met Captain Mike Anderson in 2011. He was enrolled in the Defense Language Institute for Mandarin. He took Ling in and cared for her. She immediately felt comfortable with his military attitude, as it was what she grew up with. He just wasn't abusive, which made her love him even more. Mike took her in and adopted her in 2012. She stuck by his side and even joined the Shadow Guard with him a when she turned 18. |
