We are up again early this morning to
catch the 1880 Train departing from Hill City and traveling to Keystone and
back. The old steam train pulling
into the depot was quite a sight to see.
Derek chose to sit in the caboose and we were ready to go.
The train followed the old mining tracks of the late 1800’s and early
1900’s. The scenery was
beautiful. We also spoke with one
of the conductors who was familiar with the Mid Continent Railroad or the
North Freedom Steam Train. The ride into Keystone led us through
the Black Hills and you could almost picture the beginning settlers making
their way through. After the train, we headed back to the hotel for some lunch and a nap. (Yes, we napped a lot; we are on vacation after all.) The evening was reserved for swimming, swimming, swimming. |
